Modem is external Zyxel Omni 288S. Its kinda short and rhetoric question,
but has everyone else had problems with such modem?

Greetings,

Okay, I finally figured it out after some pondering. The serial port was
configured as a module, so when the module was removed from memory it lost the
settings. I recompiled the kernel with serial ports built in and it works fine
now.

[expert] Modem problems

1999-10-28 Thread Arandir

I'm reposting this because I never got an answer, and it's STILL driving me
nuts:

The ttyS3 serial port (my modem) keeps losing its uart setting. It would
occasionally do this in mdk6.0, and I put at "setserial /dev/ttyS3 uart
16550A" in the local init script.

Now, under mdk6.1, it loses its uart setting everytime I hang up. For example,
the first time I connect with kppp after bootup I have no problem because of
the above fix I added. But if I close my connection, then try to open it up
later, kppp tells me "modem busy". My recourse it to su to root and run the
above command.

Does anyone have an idea what is going wrong? Any ideas on how to fix it?

G'day

Ah, maybe I can help here as I had a very similar problem with one of my modems.

Issue the following commands to the modem

AT&V
if X4 is there
ATX3
AT&W0 (thats Wzero)
ATZ

The thing behind this is the modem I had the problem with was a discovery modem
and it could not detect the Australian Dialtone.

[expert] Modem Problems

1999-03-03 Thread Thomas L. McCurdy, Jr.

I'm running Linux Mandrake 5.3 w/KDE. Here is my problem :

I have a Lucent modem that supports the V.90 standard (56000kbps.) I have
it mapped to ttyS1 for com2 and it recognizes that the modem is there.
When I click connect it says modem ready and then goes to setting the
volume. It doesn't do anything after that. After a while it will just
time out. Can anyone lead me to a solution to this problem. Do I need to
change my modem commands? Any advice anyone could offer would be helpful.
I should probably mention that it is not a winmodem so it should work
correctly (should is the keyword here.)
Thanks
Tom McCurdy, Jr.
