Thanks! Your the first guy who sounded like he might know what I was talking about. ;-) If you are using cups and printing from the cl you can use a default options file "/etc/cups/lpoptions " and include any of the job options Mine has : Default EpsonC40 page-left=49 prettyprint=true page-top=36 Dest HP1120 page-left=49 prettyprint=true page-top=36 All of the settings that can be used are buried in the cups software user guide, chapters 3 & 4. [expert] Printing problems
On every printer (and there have been probably 5 or 6) I have ever tried to use with Linux I have had the following problem. The first line prints right on the top border of the printable area meaning that only half of it actually gets printed. Now there should be a way to adjust this but I've never found it. [expert] printing problems
I have downloaded a pdf file that I wish to print. It is only 8 pages long and 306k in size. I have an HP Deskjet 845C, Mandrake 8.2, using cups. I have also tried different drivers - CUPS and Gimp print, foomatic and Gimp print, and Gimp print and hpij. None have worked to print this file. It is not corrupted, I can view it with acroread or kghostview without difficulty. What happens no matter what I do is the printer prints all of one line: the page number and journal title from which it derives. From then, my printer light simply blinks and blinks as if it is accepting/processing a file but nothing comes of it no matter how long I wait. If I run "lpq" I get: active praedor 2 KDE Print System103424 bytes I assume the file size difference from 306k to 103k is due to changing from pdf to ps for printing (?). Anyone have any ideas? I can print other pdfs but not this one...but I need this one. praedor Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com
[expert] Printing problems with KDE 2.1 and cups/kups
I am running KDE 2.1 with cups-1.1.6, kups-1.1-4mdk, qtcups-2.1-7mdk. I have an Epson Color Stylus 600. I can startup and testprint from kups as superuser/root but if I try this as a user, kups freezes up and bogs down my whole system - kpm indicates in the neighborhood of 99% CPU usage. This goes on indefinitely. It also shows a process, "lpr -lpd" also consuming 99% of my CPU (of course, two apps cannot be both using 99% of my CPU). The only way to unfreeze kups is to kill the "lpr -lpd" process. If I try to print from any kde app (konqueror, kmail), the app will freeze up and slow my system down in the same way that kups does. In no case is a printout EVER produced. Also, the print job never show up in the printer queue. Not in kups (which is frozen of course) nor does it show up in kups if I am running it as root and try to print from kmail or konqueror as a user. If I do an "lpq" from the CLI as well, nothing ever appears in the queue. I only have the one printer so there is only the one queue. It only ever show a queued print job if I do the CLI printing of a postscript file. As a user I CAN print from the CLI using the "lpr " without any problems. I have tried both the foomatic+stccolor, foomatic, foomatic + gimp-print, as well as various versions of gimp-print available to me in the driver list. As root, again, I have no problem printing test pages from kups with these drivers, but as user... -- Against stupidity, the gods themselves contend in vain. --
Re: [expert] Printing Problems
Mandrake 7.2 (and all the betas) use CUPS as printing system, so you cannot use printtool for printer administration. Use kups or go to http://localhost:631/ instead. Re: [expert] Printing Problems
xpp is fine. I can then print text, pdf and graphic files but anything kde (koffice kmail etc) defaults back to lpr. Trying to print say a kword doc through xpp results in an error message saying that 'the request format is not understood by this server' On Mon, 09 Oct 2000, you wrote: > Try to configure your printer via xpp, and mail again > if that doesn't work as needed. > > > Fabrice Keep in touch with http://mandrakeforum.com: Subscribe the "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" mailing list.
[expert] Printing Problems
I'm wondering if anyone else has had a printing problem similar to this one. I'm using the first Ulysses beta release that had 1.93 on it. Over this I've installed the 1.99 rpm's. Using PrintDrake I can configure my machine for my HP LaserJet. Then using printtool for a test page I get a message saying that it is unable to print the file because the requested device could not be found on the server. Has anyone had this problem and worked around or does anyone have a suggestion ta Grant Keep in touch with http://mandrakeforum.com: Subscribe the "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" mailing list.

[expert] printing problems
Hi Everybody! Hope you people can help. I've been pulling my hair out trying to get one of my users to print. I used the printtool from the Mandrake 7.1 distribution to setup a printer on an users box. The /etc/printcap looks exactly like the one on my redhat 6.2 box. The printing here is set up like this. dan (the Mandrake box)->work(Redhat 6.2 box)->network printer. When I look for the lpd entries in the work's syslog file, I don't see anything from the machine dan (even though I see entries for other boxes). Do anybody have a clue about this? I haven't found the correct version of that module, but I *did* find the parport_pc.c. When I tried to compile it it gives me TONS of screens of warnings, and, AFAICT, it never completes, at least I can't find another parport_pc.o anywhere. FWIW, I'm using Mandrake 6.0, kernel version 2.2.12 compiled from stock sources. John
Re: [expert] Printing problems
John, try this: Edit your etc/conf.modules file and add the following if it's not there alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc Save, reboot and see if your printing comes back. This may work, it used to on 6.1 machines. dale On Sat, 4 Mar 2000, John Aldrich wrote: > I don't seem to have a "parport_lowlelvel" module. I'm using a > custom-compiled kernel. I don't seem to have a "parport_lowlelvel" module. I'm using a custom-compiled kernel. Did I screw something up when I compiled it? I *do* have a parport_probe.o, but that's it as far as the paralell port devices go... I just want to be able to use my Canon BJC1000 printerdo I need to recompile the kernel? John
