Re: [expert] Uptime monitoring
Duncan I have been testing netsaint for the last little while. It may be the tool you are looking for. It can monitor most of the machines on your network as well as printers and webservers. It can also check to see if your oracle databases are running. If you add in the reporting modules you can get your uptime on any of your machines/database/webservers. It does take a bit of configuration. Also you can write your own perl scripts to monitor more specific applications. You can get a mandrake specific RPM from www.rpmfind.net or from the netsaint site www.netsaint.org Thanks Dany Allard "Ron Johnson, Jr." wrote: > Duncan Hall wrote: > > > > I've tried that but I need a package that does not rely on the uptimes.net > > server and keeps track of uptime from a specified date. > > > > Dunc > > > > "Ron Johnson, Jr." wrote: > > > > > Duncan Hall wrote: > > > > > > > > Hi all, > > > > > > > > I'm looking for a programme to monitor the uptime of my server. > > > > > > > > The uptime programme tells me how long my system has been running but I > > > > need somehting that will tell me how much uptime I have had since a > > > > certain date and how many outages have occured during that time. > > > > > > > > Any thoughts? > > > > > > > > Dunc > > > goto freshmeat.net and search for the string "uptime". > > I use uptimed 0.1.5, which is stand-alone; I'd swear I got it > from freshmeat... Here is the program I am using to monitor my network: http://bb4.com/ Take a look at some of the "demo" sites. Click on the "CPU" green "led". This will take you to a status page, which will display a history of the machines uptime for you. Pretty nifty program, and not tough to get going at all. I think it might be just what you are looking for, although maybe a little more. -- Jon Changnon, Director of Operations e: [EMAIL PROTECTED] p: 440.951.9525 http://www.dncc.net
RE: [expert] Uptime monitoring
Maybe you can do the program by yourself : If do type 'last' on a shell line, you'll get the connections of everyuser, but also the reboot/restart dates. If last tells you nothing, then maybe you've got to touch some files, so that it can record data. Do a 'man last' for more information. That's the way I'd do it, but maybe there's another way to achieve it... I use uptimed 0.1.5, which is stand-alone; I'd swear I got it from freshmeat... It keeps a list of the top 45 uptimes. The author may be coming out with an option to sort the list by boot-time. If you'd like, I'll send the gzipball to you if I was wrong about freshmeat. I've tried that but I need a package that does not rely on the uptimes.net server and keeps track of uptime from a specified date. [expert] Uptime monitoring
Hi all, I'm looking for a programme to monitor the uptime of my server. The uptime programme tells me how long my system has been running but I need somehting that will tell me how much uptime I have had since a certain date and how many outages have occured during that time. Any thoughts? Dunc
