Re: [expert] info on pine
My first mail client was pine. I used it for two hours and then immediate asked for something else to use. I used elm for years, just because I hated pine that much. (For those of you who have used elm, it's not the nicest of email clients!) I used KMail for about a week, then that's when a friend pointed me towards mutt. In my opinion, pine doesn't compare to mutt. I think mutt is far more configurable, and if compiled with nntp support, it works. I have ~/.muttrc that's a couple hundred lines long. Then I stumble across somebody who's ~/.muttrc is 3 times as long as mine is! Everything from keybindings set, to macros, color configurations and the like. Like Mutt is the vi of mail readers. It's impossible to learn all the different configs that could be applied to it. And as somebody already mentioned, neither pine or mutt are GUI based, but I do believe people have created GUIs to work as a pine/mutt front end. Mutt is your friend! :') tdh -- T. Yesterday... Craig Woods ran for the door shrieking: Having not used pine, would some kind soul impart how it stacks up against mutt. Is pine a command line program or is it GUI? Thanks, Dr John, The Night Tripper Well, I've only tried some of the others a couple of times, so I can't tell you much from that experience. But, since I've switched to pine, I don't think I could ever go back to a gui email client; yes, pine is command line. Pine is unbelieveably configureable, I've got spell check and all the other things that I used in gui and the more I learn, the more I like! I think in comparing to another cli type mua, I can just say that they each have their own key bindings which makes for learning a new command set, which isn't that big of a deal but might make the difference. I think I'm in love with pine and don't see any other in the future! Pine is nice, I've used it for years. Mutt offers some different features. Both are run CLI. -- Cheers dg Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com
