Re: [expert] smtp users
Ok how do I get a pop-to-smtp thing to force users to auth? and what would it be called? Re: [expert] smtp users
Many thanks for the info. I wonder, what mta do you use? If postfix, where does all my mail go? It installed by default one time on a beta, and I could not find my mail if my life depended on it. I don't comprehend why it just did not setup out of the box so pine could just retrieve all the messages. I don't use sendmail myself, so I wouldn't be able to provide much help for you on that (personally I find sendmail ridiculously difficult to use, and it's notoriously insecure, too). Alternatively, you can use a pop-before-smtp solution (which, I believe, does work with Sendmail) - you can find information about it here: http://iecc.com/pop-before-smtp.html This little utility forces users who want to *send* mail to authenticate using POP3 first. -Stephen- Keep in touch with http://mandrakeforum.com: Subscribe the "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" mailing list.

I tried posting this question on the newbie list about 20 times and no response so I guess they did not know the answer. I have looked in linuxconf but I see nothing about authentication on using smtp, it just said nothing. How would I use a pop-to-smtp solosheick (screw typos sorry) that forces them to auth? You need to get them to use an pop-to-smtp solution that forces them to authenticate if they want to send e-mail. What MTA are you using? -Stephen- Keep in touch with http://mandrakeforum.com: Subscribe the "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" mailing list.
[expert] smtp users
Hello. I have my relay controls set to block unidentified relayers (mostly spammers) but I have a few pop users (I want to give a couple of my buddies an e mail account) but I do not wish to enable the whole domain to use my smtp to send mail as they are on one of those free isp things that spammers might use, so I wonder if there is a way I can allow just those users whom I have put on my system only to use the smtp. Thankx Keep in touch with http://mandrakeforum.com: Subscribe the "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" mailing list.
