You have 2 possibilities: Mount the Cdrom with exec-rights, or: cd /mnt/cdrom /bin/sh ./setup /net You should use the /net Option, and install in /usr/local or preferably in /opt, so any user can use Staroffice afterwhile. Re: [expert] troubles with star office
Jamesthat exact same thing happened to me back before Star was owned by Sun, version 5.0, I believe. Anyway, what I did to circumvent the problem was to copy the installation directory and its entire contents to my hard drive. When I ran ./setup from my own hard drive I no longer got the error and Star Office installed just fine. I got it off a magazine coverdisk - untarred it to /home/mine/so (can be deleted after) & ran setup from there. There's bound to be a better way - but it worked HTH -WBD - Original Message - From: "James Sparenberg" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, June 23, 2000 9:55 AM Subject: [expert] troubles with star office > All, > I've got a box with Mandrake 7.1 that I'm trying to install Star Office > on. Re: [expert] troubles with star office
I seem to remember having the same problem w/ the CD I got from Comdex. The way I got around it was to copy the contents of the CD to harddisk and then chmod 755 the setup program. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't run it directly from the CD either. Chris James Sparenberg wrote: > > All, > I've got a box with Mandrake 7.1 that I'm trying to install Star Office > on. You need to cp the StarOffice file to a local directory i.e. /opt or /home/username Mac -Original Message- From: James Sparenberg [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, June 22, 2000 10:55 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [expert] troubles with star office All, I've got a box with Mandrake 7.1 that I'm trying to install Star Office on. Re: [expert] troubles with star office
It sounds like setup is trying to write back to the CD. Move all the StarOffice files to the hard drive. Are you doing a net install or a single user install?
