Re: [expert] KWeather
another problem with kweather: You can't set the taskbar applet to show only the weather icon and the temperature (I am not really interested in windspeed and air pressure). the only "way" is to compile the applet from the source and to modify it by yourself. Anne At this location http://www.nws.noaa.gov/tg/siteloc.shtml Go to the bottom of the page and select the country then click on the button that says "display all stations in" and it should show all the codes for that country with name of the town. When I configured kweather this was the page the lookup link connected to.I'm not sure why Yours isn't working , maybe something connected with the locale settings as mine is USA.Hopefully this address will at least let you find the code you need. You need to scroll down a little further - then you reach the Country search. (Thanks for mentioning KWeather! I hadn't used it before, and it's cool!) Select your country, and then you'll get a city list. The last time I had this problem it was a problem with the servers, not the applet, but before that it was necessary to remove all the configuration files (~.kde>apps>kweather>kweatherrc) and start over. I could be wrong about where to find it since I can't get to my /home/nanook directory at the moment. But not the what part. My box is maybe slightly over cooked right now. Almost no KDE apps, no access to much of anything actually. Before I did that I'd be certain the server for your locale is actually up though. There's a link from the configure dialogue, and a link from there to check server status if I recall correctly. I use kweather to track what is happening in Ha Noi, Viet Nam. Seems to work just fine. I go back and forth between MDK 9.1 and XP throughout the day, so I don't notice any long-term use related problems. It seems to me that when I went to set it up, Viet Nam (or at least Ha Noi) was not among the options available, but as I recall I typed Ha Noi in and the program was happy to start providing the weather info. (Right now I am going by memory, not going back through the configuration proceedures - excuse my lazyness.) Can > anyone tell me what the problem is? I have been using KWeather for about a year now, under 9.0, 9.1 and 9.2, and it all works fine. I did mess around for the last couple of minutes trying to get weather for Angola, Denmark, Iceland, Jamaica, and Sierra Leone, and I had some troubles getting stations to work in every county, and that includes places in my own neighborhood, in North America. I would say that it is not KWeather, but the stations that are supposed to be transmitting the reports. And trust me, telemetered data can be pretty flaky, I know, since I maintain some telemetered sites. Rob -- Linux: For the people, by the people. Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft?
