You sound like you'd probably take great delight from seeing anyone
suffer who doesn't firmly hold your beliefs. Gosh - sounds an awful
like Osama bin Laden, or like the Spanish Inquisitors.

Don't you see where you're going? You set yourself up as judge,
jury and executioner, and... Damn... What a surprise. Everyone else
needs to be killed. Better yet, they need to suffer appropriately
before they are destroyed. Even those who had nothing to do with
whatever it is you might disagree with. They're guilty too because
they must have contributed subconsciously to all this sin?

You must be a real fun guy!

Assuming, sadly, that the death toll from Katrina

I find girl's tits to be very attractive and the

they're tits! Give me some beads! The bondage does not
lie in the tits, but in the mental judgment that it is

taken up to heaven during the rapture are destroyed. God isn't just
sitting up there watching it all either, but sends Jesus down on a

I participate in several other forums that entertain
a wide range of topics, and it's become a major
subject of conversation there, including many requests
for information about how to help.

Here's what the president of the American Red Cross
said last night on MSNBC:

...We need three different things. We need financial
contributions. They will be essential, and with the new level of
damage that we've appreciated today, particularly in the New Orleans
area, money, financial donations, will be key to our ability to
respond.

But we also need people to donate blood. As you can imagine, with
the widespread damage, donations, regular donors have been unable to
make their appointments. We're asking people in other parts of the
country to make a lifesaving donation of blood.

And the third thing that we need, we need people to volunteer. Our
Red Cross chapters across the country have been mobilized. They're
all engaged in activities directly supporting this effort or
contributing to it. And so whether you live in Maine or California,
your Red Cross chapter can put you to work and help make a
difference.

Here's more organizations that need funds, from
the SF Chronicle:

Salvation Army: Donations can be made via the group's Web site,
www.salvationarmyusa.org; by calling (800) 725-2769; or by mail at
Salvation Army, Attention: Hurricane Katrina Fund, P.O. Box 193465,

American Red Cross Disaster team--usually my wife gets to go; she's an
expert in emotional and psychological trauma suffered by children, so in
disasters she tends to be the one in demand. They began moving people in

Plus we have a friend trapped in the old French Quarter. The FQ was largely
unscathed and since it set high, it will be one of the last places to flood.

Three points:

First, I wouldn't talk about posturing if I were
you, considering your own compulsive posturing about
the Terrible TMO.

Second, the Katrina disaster is something we can
help out with on an immediate basis.

Third, I checked the archive here from after the
tsunami, and nobody seemed to be terribly concerned
about it either; there was some discussion, but most
of it appeared to be criticism of the TMO for not
doing anything to help.

[FairfieldLife] Re: The destruction of New Orleans, the purification of America

2005-08-31 Thread Patrick Gillam
When the Mississippi flooded in 1993, some of us
in St. Louis wondered if it was God's way of saying
He didn't approve of riverboat gambling. Really!

I guess it's always tempting to ascribe some human
actions as responsible for nature's retributions, be
they floods, tsunamis, earthquakes or what have you.
Maharishi tapped into that belief when he promised
better weather in exchange for doing TM and hosting
gandharva ved concerts.

When I was looking at the New York Times' maps of
the damage this morning, I wondered if there was a
connection between this storm and global warming,
not just in its cause but in its course. It was as if the
hurricane tried to take out the oil production that
contributes to a changed climate.

As for the voodoo, I worked with a woman from New
Orleans who used to laugh about it and think it was
cute. I at the time was working with an ooga-booga
consultant who dealt with cleansing clients of just
such hexes. I was shocked that my friend could be
so passé about something so dark. But then it
occurred to me that, for my friend, voodoo wasn't
dark. It was familiar. She was comfortable around it,
the way demolition experts are comfortable around
explosives.

When I first studied SCI, I was delighted by the notion
that human beings are necessary for creative intelligence
to know itself. But that philosophy has a corrolary
notion -- that human beings acting in the absence of
natural law invite death and destruction on themselves.

I can entertain these speculations about the connection
between man and nature, but your last remark, Tom, that
women exposing their breasts invite destruction, seems
utterly Talibanesque.

Lots of people like to think that sexual freedom is a sign
of a decayed culture. But I suspect it's the opposite.
Sexual freedom is just another expression of freedom,
which is a good thing. It mirrors the spirit in the
material world. But sexual freedom gets attacked by the
Troglodytes who justify their violence with the decadence
argument. Think Hitler and the Taliban.

It's not give me liberty *or* give me death with these
people. It's give me liberty *and* give me death.

 - Patrick Gillam

--- Tom Pall wrote:

I detect that there is an embodiment of evil in New Orleans, ever
since my first visit. Voodo, Santaria evil. Evil deeds piled up upon
evil deads for centuries. The entire area has always given me the
 creeps.

Of course we can see the violation of the Laws of Nature in the very
building of the levies. If there were not those levies, the
Mississippi would sustain vital wetlands which would help, not
 exacerbate the current situation.

How interesting that what the hurricane did not destroy breaks in
 levies are taking care of.

Ruda Joe, you really think it's cute for two girls to expose their
tits to you and yours at your restaurant and rub them against the
window where you worked, do you? As yet rip, so shall yee sew.

Oh, man, she has my admiration.

Plus we have a friend trapped in the old French Quarter. The FQ was

Does your friend have access to food and water? Can you

Judy, the horror that's happening on the Gulf Coast is
EVERYWHERE...turn on the TV and radio and there it is.

Assuming, sadly, that the death toll from Katrina
reaches 2000, that number of people die tragically
every 8.33 *hours* in Africa from poverty. I haven't
exactly seen Judy trying to get us to focus on that.

The most effective way for U.S. citizens to improve
the situation in Africa is to focus on getting rid
of the current administration and installing one
that can provide some actual leadership. (That's
also the most effective way for us to get measures
implemented that can mitigate the effects of future
natural disasters here, and for that matter to do
something to prevent them, i.e., by stopping global
warming--if it can be stopped at this point.)

The Katrina disaster is something we can provide very
concrete help with *now*. And it isn't just a matter
of the death toll, of course, but of the ongoing
suffering of several million people.

It's a common condition. The Left Behind series of books has sold
over 65 million copies. In it all the non-TB christians who weren't
taken up to heaven during the rapture are destroyed. God isn't just
sitting up there watching it all either, but sends Jesus down on a
white horse to lead the slaughter. TB christians find the thought of
billions of people who believe differently being murdered by God
 spiritually inspiring.

A certain group do. How many Left Behind books are there in the
series? My guess is that if you care enough to purchase one, you buy
them all, and possibly send copies to your friends (and enemies) so
divide appropriately.

Keep in mind that Tom's background is a childhood filled with violent
abuse in the extreme. That background doesn't justify his repulsive
commentary, but it does explain its source. Tom's harsh words should

Ah, interdependent. So the US sends a tiny bit of the
money it borrows from China, Saudi Arabia, and the
Netherlands to other parts of the world in the form
of aid. Wouldn't it be more accurate then to say that
it's the Chinese, the Saudi Arabians and the Dutch who
are supplying thr aid to these poor countries? :-)

More seriously, there is a possibility that this whole
Katrina natural disaster might precipitate the collapse
of the American insurance industry. It's an open secret
within the industry that pretty much every insurance
company in America, taking advantage of asset reporting
loopholes available to them that are not available to
banks, are severely underfunded. It's been estimated
(again, within the industry) that most insurance com-
panies have issued polices for 4X to 10X their assets.
That means they can't pay off if a lot of those policies
come due at once.

If a few major companies fail, insiders suspect that
they'll all fail, as a result of the domino effect
caused by reinsurance, and spreading the debt around.

It's not as if these companies don't deserve to fail
(you can tell I spent far too much time working as a
consultant in that industry to feel their pain), but
if it happens it will horribly escalate the impact
of this hurricane.

Sexual freedom is just another expression of freedom,

Perhaps people come on this forum to take a break from it...

I participate in several other forums that entertain
a wide range of topics, and it's become a major
subject of conversation there, including many requests

Here's what the president of the American Red Cross
 said last night on MSNBC:

...We need three different things. We need financial
contributions. They will be essential, and with the new level of
damage that we've appreciated today, particularly in the New
Orleans
area, money, financial donations, will be key to our ability to
 respond.

But we also need people to donate blood. As you can imagine,
with
the widespread damage, donations, regular donors have been unable
to
make their appointments. We're asking people in other parts of
the
country to make a lifesaving donation of blood.

And the third thing that we need, we need people to volunteer.
Our
Red Cross chapters across the country have been mobilized.
They're
all engaged in activities directly supporting this effort or
contributing to it. And so whether you live in Maine or
California,
your Red Cross chapter can put you to work and help make a
 difference.

Here's more organizations that need funds, from
 the SF Chronicle:

Salvation Army: Donations can be made via the group's Web site,

Bingo. In other words, he's right in line with

With all due respect, what's happening to the people
on the Gulf Coast happens every fucking day on this
planet and it bothers the hell out of us every fucking
day. It's just that some of us don't posture as com-

On the way to my computer room to log on to FFL, I stubbed my toe.

Crews Pass Dead to Reach Storm Survivors
By BRETT MARTEL, Associated Press Writer

...A helicopter view of the devastation over the New Orleans area
revealed people standing on black rooftops baking in the sunshine
while waiting for rescue boats. A row of desperately needed
ambulances were lined up on the interstate, water blocking their
path. Roller coasters jutted out from the water at a Six Flags
amusement park. Hundreds of inmates were seen standing on a highway
because the prison had been flooded.

Sen. Mary Landrieu quietly traced the sign of the cross across her
head and chest as she looked out at St. Bernard Parish, where only
roofs peaked out from the water.

The whole parish is gone, Landrieu said.

All day long, rescuers in boats and helicopters pulled out
shellshocked and bedraggled flood refugees from rooftops and attics.
The Coast Guard said it has rescued 1,200 people by boat and air,
some placed shivering and wet into helicopter baskets. They were
brought by the truckload into shelters, some in wheelchairs and some
carrying babies, with stories of survival and of those who didn't
make it.

Oh my God, it was hell, said Kioka Williams, who had to hack
through the ceiling of the beauty shop where she worked as
floodwaters rose in New Orleans' low-lying Ninth Ward. We were
screaming, hollering, flashing lights. It was complete chaos.

Frank Mills was in a boarding house in the same neighborhood when
water started swirling up toward the ceiling and he fled to the roof.
Two elderly residents never made it out, and a third was washed away
trying to climb onto the roof.

He was kind of on the edge of the roof, catching his breath, Mills
said. Next thing I knew, he came floating past me.

Across Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, more than 1 million
residents remained without electricity, some without clean drinking
water. An untold number who heeded evacuation orders were displaced
and 40,000 were in Red Cross shelters, with officials saying it could
be weeks, if not months, before most will be able to return

From Editor Publisher:

Did New Orleans Catastrophe Have to Happen? 'Times-Picayune' Had
Repeatedly Raised Federal Spending Issues

By Will Bunch

Published: August 30, 2005 9:00 PM ET

PHILADELPHIA Even though Hurricane Katrina has moved well north of
the city, the waters may still keep rising in New Orleans late on
Tuesday. That's because Lake Pontchartrain continues to pour through
a two-block-long break in the main levee, near the city's 17th Street
Canal. With much of the Crescent City some 10 feet below sea level,
the rising tide may not stop until it's level with the massive lake.

New Orleans had long known it was highly vulnerable to flooding and a
direct hit from a hurricane. In fact, the federal government has been
working with state and local officials in the region since the late
1960s on major hurricane and flood relief efforts. When flooding from
a massive rainstorm in May 1995 killed six people, Congress
authorized the Southeast Louisiana Urban Flood Control Project, or
SELA.

Over the next 10 years, the Army Corps of Engineers, tasked with
carrying out SELA, spent $430 million on shoring up levees and
building pumping stations, with $50 million in local aid. But at
least $250 million in crucial projects remained, even as hurricane
activity in the Atlantic Basin increased dramatically and the levees
surrounding New Orleans continued to subside.

Yet after 2003, the flow of federal dollars toward SELA dropped to a
trickle. The Corps never tried to hide the fact that the spending
pressures of the war in Iraq, as well as homeland security -- coming
at the same time as federal tax cuts -- was the reason for the
strain. At least nine articles in the Times-Picayune from 2004 and
2005 specifically cite the cost of Iraq as a reason for the lack of
hurricane- and flood-control dollars.

Newhouse News Service, in an article posted late Tuesday night at The
Times-Picayune web site, reported: No one can say they didn't see it
comingNow in the wake of one of the worst storms ever, serious
questions are being asked about the lack of preparation.

In early 2004, as the cost of the conflict in Iraq soared, President
Bush proposed spending less than 20 percent of what the Corps said
was needed for Lake Pontchartrain, according to a Feb. 16, 2004,
article, in New Orleans CityBusiness.

On June 8, 2004, Walter Maestri, emergency management chief for
Jefferson Parish, Louisiana; told the Times-Picayune: It appears
that the money has been moved in the president's budget to handle
homeland security and the war in Iraq, and I suppose that's the price
we pay. Nobody locally is happy that the levees can't be finished,
and we are doing everything we can to make the case that this is a
security issue for us

The 2004 hurricane season was the worst in decades. In spite of that,
the federal government came back this spring with the steepest
reduction in hurricane and flood-control funding for New Orleans in
history. Because of the proposed cuts, the Corps office there imposed
a hiring freeze. Officials said that money targeted for the SELA
project -- $10.4 million, down from $36.5 million -- was not enough
to start any new jobs.

There was, at the same time, a growing recognition that more research
was needed to see what New Orleans must do to protect itself from a
Category 4 or 5 hurricane. But once again, the money was not there
