Re: Ginger is gone

2006-02-23 Thread Belinda Sauro

   Michelle,
I'm so sorry to hear about Ginger, how awful that she was not able to
overcome this. It sounds like her passing was peaceful and I do believe
she not only heard but saw you both before she left. From the sound of
it she was not in good shape and had she woke up probably wouldn't have
had alot of time left here because of the severity of the tumor or
infection. This is also what happened with Buddie when she went into
cardiac arrest after her surgery, the cancer had spread and she would
only have had a few days or weeks at the most and they wouldn't have
been very comfortable.

Please believe she is still with you and is not hindered anymore by a
body that was failing her. Though the physical body can only go so
long, the spirit is forever and I hope Ginger will visit and let you
know she is OK. My prayers are with you and I hope that the happy
memories of the all too short time Ginger had with you will someday soon
once again bring the same smile to your face that Ginger was so capable
of doing. She was truly a little character!!

Angel Ginger

2006-02-23 Thread Nina

Hello my Dear,
I know I don't have to tell you how heartsick I am over Ginger's
passing. Thank you for sharing so many wonderful memories of her and
her happy life with you. I haven't been on the computer for a while
and I'm in shock to hear how quickly all this transpired. Your Mom
must be pretty upset over losing her too. Love to all of you. I wish
I could say something to help you through your grief. I still miss my
Angels, still long to hold them, still smile through my tears when I
think of the antics that used to make me laugh. It's so hard to move
on, but what can we do? Hold her in your heart the way you used to
hold her to your breast. They're all still with us, but the pain of
losing their sweet physical presences is so, so sorrowful. Sometimes
it helps me to know that the sorrow I feel is in direct proportion to
the joy they have brought me. Keep yourself open to the memories of
joy from those who have crossed and the joys all around you from those
still in your care.
Blessings and hugs to all those that have lost fur-loves and all those
that are suffering with them in their illnesses,
Nina

Tad and Marie,
I'm sorry to hear about Buffy. Her roller coaster rebounds remind me of
Gracie. She too always seemed to be fighting for her health, she too
would rebound time and time again. After she passed, I looked back on
my notes about her and was surprised to see just how often she was in
trouble during her short life. The times she was healthy and vibrant
stood out so much more vividly in my experience of her. How are the
other Angel Wings kids doing? I'm praying that they will be strong and
healthy for a long, long time to come. You sure could use a respite
from illness and loss.

I'm so pleased to hear how fit Switters is! Isn't it marvelous how
quickly he seems to be acclimating to your household? Blessings to Jen
for helping him regain his health and retain his love of life and
incredible attitude. Please let us know how everyone is doing.

With many thanks to you and Marie,

Belinda,
I've been off-list for a while and haven't seen a recent update about
Bailey. How are you guys doing? You've never been far from my thoughts
and always in my prayers. I can only imagine how difficult his
condition has been on you both. I know how hard it can be to keep your
spirits up when someone you love is in the midst of such a valiant
battle for health. Please be good to yourself, remember to eat, get
some sleep, allow yourself to laugh and smile as much as you can.
Relish the time you share just being together. Spend some quiet time
each day surrounding yourselves in in the love and support that you give
to each other. Isn't it amazing how our sick little angels continue to
send us support, even when they are so very weak themselves? Sending
strength and light to you both,

His problem was a recurring fever. So far he is fever
free. He has been eating good and playing. He is
also taking Baytril and Clavamox but I think the
immuno-regulan has helped him with his fevers. I am
keeping my fingers crossed. This has been the 1st

Hey Cindy,

Equistim or something like that is probably what the
vet called it. It is the same thing as ImmunoRegulin.
Is your kitty getting the IR injected into a vein in
the arm/leg or are you just giving kitty the injection
in the skin (like sub-Q)?

Yes that is the name of it. I am just giving him an
injection in the skin. I have a diabetic cat (Katie)
that I have to give insulin shots. The needle sure
isn't as easy to get in the skin as an insulin needle
and I don't have much experience giving shots but I
get it done. The other vet I was taking Smokey to
didn't mention immuno-regulin to me and I am glad I
took him to this new vet. I still use the old vet for
all of my other kitties but I just felt like maybe
they were not very good with cats with felv.

I've been going to ask the same question - if anyone has experience with this. I have a little 14mo old feleuk+ baby, Daisy, who is not only a joy to me but to all my kids at school. I want to go the extra mile with her from the beginning - there would be so many more people than just me to be heartbroken at her death.I have just gotten immuno-regulan for monthly doses for a 10 yr old feleuk girl, Calico, who just came into our rescue group. She has been maintained on monthly shots for 7-8 years so we are going to keep it up. Daisy gets daily interferon but she still has trouble throwing URI's - and she is underweight. I just have the gut feeling that she isn't going to be a really long-term survivor. I have been thinking about adding the immunoregulan to what she gets. All my info says that it has to be IV. Found a protocol - don't remember exactly but you start off with daily shots andwork
upto monthy. Is that what everyone uses? Does anyone have experience with any better rusults using both that and interferon? 1 ml, but Ginger got a high fever for about an hour afterwards from that

The cat who is 10-- she has had FeLV her whole life and done ok? I have
never heard of giving I-R as a preventative immune booster. It's an

Thanks - I am going to try that with a couple of my cats who've gotten bad URI's.The 10-yr old -- that is really weird. Calico and her littermate WildOneTrixie belonged to an elderly lady who got them as kittens - they'd been born around her house. Once she got them they never went out again. Calico tests positive and WildOne negative. They have lived together the whole 10 years - with the vet's blessing -- how awesome is that! Anyhow the elderly lady's son didn't remember exactly when they'd been tested but Calico has been on the IR for about 7-8 years. Calico seems so healthy that before ordering the IR we re-tested - and she is definitely positive. Our vet was kinda like "Well, I've never heard of doing that but might help, won't hurt" -- but he doesn't really have much faith that that is why she is still healthy - said she's just in the lucky % that
doesn't get sick. Maybe that is true, but we just don't know for sure, and I don't want to stop her shots just in case. She gets .2mg once a month. Just on the off chance that it has helped her and might help my Daisy, I was considering giving it to Daisy in addition to the interferon but was hesitant about the IV part. But since it can be subQ, there is no reason not to try, I guess.[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:I think I did two shots, 3 days apart, and then she got better and I stopped. The cat who is 10-- she has had FeLV her whole life and done ok? brighter this morning (anything would be brighter than how she was last night
though) but that he is very concerned about the possibility of a brain
problem. I am very worried about her, and have a terrible feeling.
I pray it is an inner ear infection or something like that. Please pray
  for her.

2006-02-23 Thread Belinda Sauro

  Hi Nina,
Bailey is hanging in there, I took him to emergency Sunday night he
was breathing hard and fast, his nostrils were flaring and it scared
me. When we finally saw the vet he was a bit better, and he had a fever
of 104.2. She listened to his lungs and said he was getting air at a
bit of a diminished rate, she said his gums are nice and pink, he was
slightly dehydrated but she didn't think he was in crisis and said she
could do an xray to check for fluid or I could wait and take him to my
regular vet in the morning. Since he was better already I decided to
see my regular vet in the morning, the ER vet gave me baytril for the
fever, she wanted to put him on clavamox, but I didn't want to chance
diarrhea again after our 2 week ordeal earlier so I asked if we could go
with something else and she choose baytril.

The next morning his fever was down to 103.4, so heading in the right
direction, and we did more xrays which showed nothing new, no fluid or
discernable tumors. I'm giving him fluids daily now instead of every
other day. He is gaining a tiny bit of weight so that is good, I feed
him every 4 hours (not sure if you know he has a feeding tube). His
muscle wasting is not getting any worse, I can't say if it is getting
better but it isn't getting worse. In the last couple of days he has
been moving around a bit more, still sleeps alot but that from what I
understand is part of this syndrome (official diagnosis is myeloid
dysplastic). So I guess we are hanging in there. We have a vet
appointment tomorrow to check his temp again, and in two weeks to check
bloodwork again.
