Re: [Felvtalk] OT- Tiffany, blind DUMPED cat, needs your help!

2009-06-22 Thread Sharyl

Kelly, I know you are waiting to hear from your primary vet but the longer the
kitty goes without meds the less chance she will ever regain any of her sight.
To be honest it may be to late to save her sight but the high BP needs to be
addressed before any other damage occurs.

Here is a link to some general info on high BP.
http://www.marvistavet.com/html/high_blood_pressure.html

There is a Yahoo heart group that has may be able to help with the meds and
dose amounts.
http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/feline-heart/

You should be able to purchase the meds at your local pharmacy with a Rx from a
vet. Usually the 1st choice for cats is Amlodipine for high BP.

A vet who has been practicing for over 40 yrs may not be current on what is now
available for special needs kitty. If possible she needs to be seen by a
specialist.

Hugs to her.

He is having a hard time calculating the dosage for some reason. I am not a
vet - know lots about administering fluids, assisted feeding, URI, pilling,
CRF, I have kind of a specialty with heart disease kitties as my soul kitty
has heart disease - but nothing about hbp (yet, I will learn now). She acts
absolutely fine. We did not believe she was as old as she is, she does not
act like it. I do feel bad for her. Obviously her previous owner did not
want to pay to fix what was wrong. I have never had to wait this long but I
do not want her to get the wrong dosage. This vet has been in practice
since 1967, so he knows what he is doing.

Kelly,

Thanks for explaining, but the vet is sure taking his/her time. Hope Tiffany's
health can wait. I love special needs kitties (have 13 myself) and my vet is on
the ball within hours. For me, meds refills/prescriptions are administered
within same day as seen. The most I have ever had to wait for meds was 24
hours. I guess some are just not as fortunate. It just bleeds my heart to hear
of such things. Does she act comfortable?

   Kelley,
When I took Fred in because he was twitching and getting spacey, it
was because of high blood pressure, my vet gave me his meds right then
and there, it shouldn't take that long. Usual starting dose is a
quarter tab of a 2.5gr of amlodipine (brand name norvasc). Almost all
of the CRF kitties who usually end up with high blood pressure during
the course of the disease start on this dose.

Fred is on a higher dose now because this eventually wasn't keeping his
blood pressure in check.

Kelly,

Due to the current economic status I no longer use credit cards (closed them
all out) and I do not give our my debit card number.

Therefore, I neither shop on-line nor pay bills on-line (use PayPal).

Do you have a residential address (or a P.O. Box) in which money order and/or
cash donations can be physically USPS mailed to?

Will you even accept money order/cash payments?

Lora

Not sure I know *all* the special-needs lists, MC:) MIchelle wants to keep
her over sending her to a sanctuary, I suspect.

Kelly, blind animals can and do lead happy lives. I saved the chipin link, and
will donate on Friday.
