PLEASE do not euthanize her based on a positive test!  That is not a
reason. FeLV is like HIV. It means a suppressed immune system. It does not mean
your cat is going to die anytime soon.

Immuno-Regulin is a good immune stimulant and really seems to help with
upper respiratory viruses, fevers, and viruses generally.  Lysine also
helps a lot with it.  There are some articles on I-R on the
felineleukemia.org website, and you can order from Revival Animal Health without
a prescription for about $30 for a vial that will last at least 10
doses.  Soome people give it at home subcutaneously, but it is supposed to
work better given IV at a vet's office. Though you may need a different
vet.

There are numerous people on this list whose FeLV+ cats battled recurrent
upper respiratory infections for a long time and then they went away when they
started I-R, lysine, or the combination.

Testing is kind of a controversial issue, I'm finding as I start my own rescue.

The group I volunteered for had the same policy - only test one per litter - but if your aim is to find out who is felv+ at that point in time,  you need to test all of them.  Some can be + and some - within the same litter.  Some people don't test at all due to the risk of false positives.  Lots of cats are euthanized at kill shelters due to false positive I think.  How many is anyone's guess.  Not only is there a risk of false positives, but cats can throw off the virus, or segregate it in their bone marrow, given enough time, which kill shelters generally don't have to give.

I don't know too much about low blood platelet but I am sure someone here will.  Someone here knows everything!

Thank you for writing! The vets around here (Harrisburg, PA) really are not so up to date on FeLV and FIV, this vet is actually better than most. I am just more worried about this because of the low blood platelet and risk of hemorrhage. I will wait the 6 months of course. The boy kitten was tested (I belong to a rescue group and usually with a litter of kittens only one is tested and perhaps this is not such a good idea).

First suggestion - find another vet.  3-4 weeks is not long enough for her to throw off the virus if she is going to.  My vet recommends 6 months between tests.  Has the boy kitten been tested?

There are a number of ways to boost the immune system,  including high quality food and l-lysine.  Others will be able to tell you more on that.

I had a kitten who tested weak felv+ but came up negative later, along with the rest of her littermates.  So I have no direct experience with felv, but have stayed on this list because everyone is so great.   You have found a good place to be.

Take care.

Try giving her the Just Born formula. Someone suggested it before. It
seems like a good source of nutrition if she's weak.
