Is it a swing notation you want? There is an eight note swing shape
expression available in the Finale default files. You could make a
duplicate of that and make modifications to the duplicate (use the
"Ungroup" command in the Shape Designer to split the different elements
in the shape).

Thanks to all for the public and private replies to my query.!

As a relatively new (9 months) user of Finale, after seven years on
ENCORE, I'm still discovering the flexibility of this program -- and
thus, the accompanying complexity.

Thanks again!

I just happened to have Finale 2002 running in Classic on my iMac when
I saw this post so I did a quick check. Everything worked as expected.
However, my music font is Maestro and also I have the music fonts
duplicated to a sub-folder in my OS X 'home' folder. The path is:
~/Library/Fonts. My printer is on a local Ethernet network with 3 Macs
connected to a hub.

1. When saving the graphic selection I had "Include Fonts" checked.
2. When printing the document with the included graphic, I
double-checked in Page Setup->PostScript Options that "Substitute
Fonts" was NOT checked.

Near the top of the .eps file are the lines:

...
%%DocumentFonts: Maestro
%%+ Times-Roman
%%EndComments
...
These show the fonts in the EPS file. If you check your EPS in a text
editor, what does it show?

Go to measure tool.

Click upper box at the right side of the bar.

Set the wanted options for the key- and time- signatures via the menus at
the right side just above the middle of the window popping up.

[Finale] Courtesy Time Signatures

2003-07-27 Thread James O'Briant
I have a question about courtesy time signatures.

I'm engraving a three-movement work in Finale Windows 2003. At present
I've gone to [Document Options] [Time Signatures] and have courtesy time
signatures turned on. I need them in the second movement, which has
many meter changes.

The problem is this: With "courtesy time signatures" turned on, I also
get a "courtesy time signature" at the end of the first and second
movements, preparing for the following movement. I don't want these to
appear. How do I get rid of these two courtesy time signatures yet keep
all the others?

Thanks!

Since one of the first threads I read about the ~.eps utility indicated
that it did not work correctly, I've never tried to use it; if it does
not have a provision for embedding fonts, I'd probably define your
colophon as a very small page and use a ~.pdf with embedded fonts on the
one hand, or print the part of a file as a ~.tif graphic image on the
other.

[Finale] Tempo marking

2003-07-27 Thread Lee Actor
I' ve been much happier once I found that tempo markings could be made as
shape expressions, thus allowing different fonts to be mixed in the same
expression. Now I'd like a tempo marking that includes, graphically: [16th
note]=[triplet 8th note]. Is there any way to do this within one
expression?

That's what I finally did yesterday (requesting his textedit plug-in). I'll
know if it works as soon as I'll get it.

Try this in the incorrect Fin2003 version:
1. Select the Resize Tool
2. Right-click on the first system
3. Select "Resize System..."
4. In the "Staff Sizing" group, set "Staff Height" to 96 EVPUs
5. As the range, set "1 Through End of Piece"
6. Press OK

Re: [Finale] Strange compression

2003-07-27 Thread Klaaschello
For what it's worth Dennis, I tried to copy your problem by importing a new
2001d document in 2003a (all on Mac), which I couldn't. Because not all your
2k1 documents show the same behaviour I would look for difference(s) in all
possible options for the files to find out which one of the options maybe is
causing trouble. You could mail me, if you wish, a copy of a 'troubled' doc,
which I would be happy to try to convert, to see whether it shows the same
behaviour on my mac(hine).
