There aren't too many articles on musical topics in Google Scholar
yet, but I see it becoming a great resource in the future.

Yes, obviously in its infancy, but could prove very very useful.

I think what he was indicating is that it's got nothing like the breadth
of more traditional resources such as RILM.

[Finale] A feature I'd like

2004-11-18 Thread Dennis Bathory-Kitsz
A time-intensive task I'd like to have (maybe it exists; I'm using 2K3):

Speedy Entry Match Measure Length to Entered Notes.

Exiting a measure sets the time signature of that measure to largest
integer beat, as configured in a setup dialog. This is kind of the opposite
of the current method, where the signature is set first and then the
measure is filled out with rests.

I could set it, say, to hide the signature. That way, I could enter a piece
like the one I'm currently setting (a long 1932 solo sonata with a
different number of beats in each measure, but no time signatures). As I
finished each measure and right-arrowed to the next, it would set the time
signature of the measure I'm leaving to match the actual notes entered in
the measure, and hide it.

This would help with lots of contemporary scores where only the metrical
chunks are the important features, and measures are vestigial placeholders
at best.

(If this already exists, I'm red-faced.)

2004-11-18 Thread YATESLAWRENCE

First you need to download Jari Williamsons plugin - "JWTimeSig", then.,

Using speedy entry:

in speedy options, uncheck "fill with rests" and "jump to next
measure"

enter notes as you wish moving to next measure manually.

Select all with Mass Mover

In Plugins select JW timesig and all the bars will be gven the correct time
signature based on the notes you have enteres.

I use Finale2k Win.  Maybe this has been added to later
versions?

All the best,

Lawrence

To my knowledge it doesn't work as it did in the

Since you are still on Fin2k3 you might want to check out JWTimeSig (a
plugin from Jari).

Unfortunately it doesn't support more recent Mac versions, one plugin I
really miss. Very useful in a variety of situations, not just
contemporary music.

I already have it, but have only used system spacing and score dividers.

[Finale] Mac Finale to PC Finale

2004-11-18 Thread SandyP412
Hi Everyone,

Recently I received a file sent by someone that was saved using Finale 3.2 for
Mac into an .ETF file, which are supposedly useful for just this purpose. I,
however, cannot open it on my end using Finale 2002, 2004 or 2005. In each
case, I get an invalid file type error message.

This confuses me greatly as I have received files in the past with no problem.
This time it is very time critical. The person is now sending me a hard copy
via snail mail (even a day is slower than computers ;) ) And if I cannot make
the file transfer work the music will need to be entered note by note.

Is there something we can do to get the files to transfer?

Thanks for all your help in advance. I am on the digest version, so if you can
email me directly, I will receive the response much quicker.

[Finale] Switching fonts in eps file

2004-11-18 Thread Thomas Schaller
Hi,

I have a bunch of eps files that need a different music font - is there a
quick good way to go into these eps files and change one font to another?
Changing the font in the Finale files is not an option, because they are
lost.
I'm on Mac, system 9 or 10.

Thanks,

Thomas Schaller

Re: [Finale] Back to EPS

2004-11-18 Thread Rocky Road
EPS worked fine for me in FinMac2002 and 2003, in system 9. It works
after a fashion in 2005 in OSX as well, it's just that the previews
are such low quality as to be illegible, but they print OK.
That's what has forced me to switch to 600dpi TIFF. I like to be able
to clearly read the music on screen inside things like Word documents.

Even if you do figure this out, odds are that it won't look very good.
Every music font has slightly different sizes, even at the same point
size, of its elements. For example, Engraver's noteheads are wider
than Maestro's, so changing between them will make notehead/stem
connections really ugly.

Finale is needed to change music fonts, because it is the only way to
respace the music in light of the new font's attributes. Any other way
to change the music font will likely have unsightly results.

[Finale] Copying Optimized Group Names

2004-11-18 Thread Darcy James Argue
I run into this problem from time to time...
If you want to change all instances of a group name after optimization,
you either have to change every instance of it in every system, or
remove and re-apply the optimization to every system.

Is there some way to do this globally *without* losing all of your
optimization settings?
