[Finale] Slurs changing direction
How do I enter a slur (phrase marking) that changes direction half way (eg for a phrase that starts on piano l.h. and ends on r.h.? Thanks for any help. ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale

Re: [Finale] Midi file dynamics / human playback?
An inaccurate second hand report of the problem turned out to be most of the problem. I talked directly to the programmer today for the first time concerning this matter, and it seems that he was concerned with HP's quantizing more than it's dynamics. Anyway, turning off HP has taken care of things for me. David and Hiro, thanks again for jumping in to help. I sent the file to the programmer and still haven't heard from him if this was what he needed. Hiro, I'll discuss your comments with the programmer and see if they help. It's beyond me technically, but I do know he's trying to get the file into a format where he can mix it through a board. I won't know much more until I talk to him. This is, to be honest, weird. S/He should reset CC7/11 and velocity before starting the job. That's what we usually do. I usually go further to check the client's playback equipment. The common setting for CC7/11 is 100, and velocity is 90 (which is a little tricky since 90-110 is where the big velocity switch occurs usually). ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale
[Finale] Letter shortcuts.
After following a recent thread I discovered the joy using Alt va for Show Active Layer etc . A bit of experimentation has opened up a huge Pandoras Box for me. Clear entry, extract parts, change note size etc etc. One hiccup, my main menu bar File, Edit, View, Options etc, does not show Key Letters underlined. Most are pretty obvious, but some not so- to give one example, M for Midi- or M for Mass Mover. (I discovered its M for Mass Mover, but it illustrates the point). [Finale] Forcing Rests
Hello all, I am working on a full orchestral score in 3/4 time. Since I have doubled up instruments on the staves, I occasionally have a measure where one instrument is completely at rest but the second is playing. Since I am using default whole measure rests for the entire piece, I need to use a whole measure rest in the upper part. The program doesn't seem to want to allow me to do that. Can anyone suggest a way that I can get that whole rest in there? I am using Finale 2003a on a MAC. Re: [Finale] Forcing Rests
Two ways to do this. You can change to another layer and enter the rest and then adjust it or you can enter a whole rest into the measure using voice 2. All of this is done using the speedy entry frame. Hope this helps! On Apr 6, 2005, at 5:37 PM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hello all, I am working on a full orchestral score in 3/4 time. [Finale] Creating PDFs
I am having difficulty creating PDFs which have a decent appearance. I use Finale2002 on Windows 2000, with Adobe acrobat writer. I have no trouble printing to my inkjet directly. The rendering of the music is very good. However if I try to produce a PDF using adobe acrobat writer the font rendering is ugly. I have specified that all fonts be embedded and have also explicitly selected the Petrucci fonts. If I used finale to create a postscript file directly then use acrobat distiller to convert it to a PDF then the same poor rendering results. Suggestions on how I can produce good quality PDFs would be much appreciated. - - Richard J Moore IBM Advanced Linux Response Team - Linux Technology Centre MOBEX: 264807; Mobile (+44) (0)7739-875237 Office: (+44) (0)1962-817072 ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale

Re: [Finale] Creating PDFs
This is how I did it in OS9 before OSX. I got these instructions from here on the list, I think it was from Johannes Gebauer. I couldn't deviate from this procedure at all without causing all kinds of problems, including odd font substitution issues, but this way worked every time. I used Acrobat 4. Creating PDFs in Finale In the Chooser, select Adobe PS as the printer In Finale, select Postscript settings font inclusion All and Printer-Specific Settings resolution 1200 dpi. Print, but print to Destination: File. set Distiller to Press Optimised. It will remember this setting for next time. Drag the resulting .ps file from the print operation onto the Distiller icon or into the Distiller window. The PDF will be created in the same directory as the .ps file was. Re: [Finale] Forcing Rests
Perhaps that is the root of the problem. I used simple entry to put the rest in and it would simply disappear when I changed to speedy (to make the vertical adjustment). I'll try entering the rest with speedy entry. I do remember receiving that error message a long time ago, in another score, I couldn't figure out why I didn't get that message this time. Guess I'm getting old and feeble minded;-). Thanks, Nick In a message dated 4/6/05 6:36:39 PM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: In what way does the program not allow it? I assume you're running Windows XP, because it's the first version that is set to default (quite stupidly, in my opinion -- I just can't figure out a reason to hide the underlined shortcut keys) to hiding the underlines until you hit the Alt key. The setting exists in Win2K, also, but it's set OFF (as it really ought to be in every version of Windows, in my opinion). To set it, in WinXP or Win2K, right click on the desktop and choose PROPERTIES (or open the DISPLAY tool in Control Panel -- same thing). Go to the EFFECTS tab. The item labeled Hide keyboard navigation indicators until I use the Alt key should be UNCHECKED. This change in WinXP is a massive stupidity, with absolute no logical justification, except Microsoft's continuing incomprehension of why the Mac UI is superior to their own. -- David W.
