[Finale] Automatic check for updates

2006-01-01 Thread dhbailey
I just ran Fin2006b and had it check for updates. It told me that there
was an update available at the MakeMusic web-site, so I clicked on the
option to get the new update (figuring of course that it must be
Fin2006C -- but don't get excited, there is no new update!) It took me
to the page which showed the 2006B update!

Why doesn't Finale2006b know that I already have it? Did MakeMusic
simply hard-code into this great new feature that it is Finale2006 and
that it should check to see if there is anything more recent than
Finale2006, so everytime I check for automatic updates it's simply going
to waste my time by telling me that 2006b is available? Why didn't
MakeMusic code into this routine the ability to check and see which
actual version is actually running, and then compare it against the
update patches? Is it me being hyper-picky, or shouldn't Finale2006b
only tell me there's a new update available when Finale2006c comes out?

It seems like it's another great idea not properly implemented.

[Finale] Fin2006 ctrlshift-

2006-01-01 Thread dhbailey
I just discovered something that may actually have been in place in
previous versions but I've never tried it, so I just disovered it:

I knew this already: ctrl shift - (or +) will alter all the occurences
of the same pitch that the cursor is on until the end of the measure, so
if you have a lot of A that you want changed to Ab, place the cursor on
the first A you want changed and ctrlshift- will change them all to Ab.

What I just discovered: if the cursor isn't directly on the notehead,
all pitches for the remainder of the measure are altered.

Maybe it's old news for many on this list, but it's always fun to start
the new year learning something new! :-)

Oh, that's brilliant. I'm so glad I turned off the auto-update
feature -- can you imagine having Finale tell you once a week that
the update you already have is now available?

That sort of thing is true for some other tools as well. For example,
in Speedy, if you have a chord you want tied to the next beat, put
the cursor on the beat with the chord but *not* on any of the pitches
in the chord and hit =. All notes in the chord sprout ties to the
next beat. (Actually, this toggles the tied state, so if you
originally had one note tied but not the others, this trick will
leave you with all notes tied except for the one that used to be tied.)

Or if you have a C major chord that you want to turn into a C# major
chord, again place the cursor on the chord but not on any one note,
and hit +. All the notes in the chord are now sharped.

[Finale] GPO 2

2006-01-01 Thread Henry E. Howey
I have loaded the now GPO; however, I have not figured out how to get it
to work with 2005 or 2006.

Also, there is no help file.

A further concern is that on a 1.7 GHZ ladtop withe 2 gigs of RAM it is
very slow to load.

You should certainly tell tech support about this. Are you on Windows
or Mac? I just tried checking for an update with Mac 2000b and was told
that I have the current version, so at least on my system the feature
seems to be working.
