I'm on an HP Envy laptop with a quad-core processor, 12GB of ram, oodles
of hard drive space, running Win8.1-64bit. Finale2014(c) seems a bit
slower than previous versions but I wouldn't describe it as crawling.

When I just was playing through a score for string orchestra of a
baroque piece by Albicastro, the little HP warning high cpu usage by
Finale2014 appeared. The sound playback I was using was the sounds
that installed with Finale2014 and running through Asio4all.

[Finale] Re(2): Anybody here? Is 2014 slow?

2014-07-12 Thread Giovanni Andreani
I'm running Finale 2014c on a MacBook Pro with Maveriks and don't see any
particular difference compared to the previous version, although I've lately
been working on small, non demanding files.

Giovanni Andreani

I get the high CPU usage on both winfin 12 and 14c--on both 32-bit win 7
and win 64-bit 8.1.
I had thought that finale had become aware of multiple processors as of
winfin 2012, but maybe not.

Re: [Finale] Anybody here? Is 2014 slow?

2014-07-12 Thread Raymond Horton
OK, here a a few numbers to demonstrate the crawling

FinWin 2014. Win 8.1
HP with AMD FX -6200 Six-core Processor 3.8 GHz
10 MB ram
64 bit OS, x64-based Processor
Finale and Garritan are on a second, solid-state (fast!) drive

The file I am working on shows up in the Win directory as 1396 KB, but
when I right click to show properties it is 1.36 MB on disk. I JUST
CHANGED THE FIRST BAR, A ONE BEaT PICKUP (SOrry my caps lock key got
stuck on when I pulled it off in disgust - I'm a terrible typist) from
C to 4/4 sand it took five seconds. I saved it and it took another
5 seconds. I tried data check - nothing extra there.

Thanks for any help. I have a big deadline and a lot of work to do!

2014-07-12 Thread Williams, Jim
Ray,
My guess is that your issues have to do with the SSD rather than with finale.
Can you move at least finale back to the root drive?
I tried what you described the change was instantaneous on my system with no
SSD.

Re: [Finale] Anybody here? Is 2014 slow?

2014-07-12 Thread Raymond Horton
Well, then I'll get back to the path issues that have kept me from hearing
Garritan. After wiping the drives I put Fin and Garritan in the defaults,
and it worked, albeit slowly. I must say that the Garritan sounds seem to
load faster than they used to. But I'll see if fin can be moved to the
other drive and still work. Should I uninstall or copy?
Thanks

I'd uninstall/reinstall. Not sure if you'll need to deauthorize finale first
since you're putting it on a different drive.
