Re: [Finale] Finale 2014.5 Windows?

2015-12-06 Thread Jeff Tanner
I did a project in it that I had started in 2014 and didn't have any problems
other than the fact that Finale reset all my audio settings. I use a VST plug
in and had to tell it what folder to look in and reset the instruments, but
that was about it.

You can also just edit the Lyrics Text Style and it will change them
all and make it that position as the default.

I now have entered the music and lyrics. I wanted to shift the

highlight the entire staff, then under Edit menu select FILTER and
then select Lyrics. Then only the lyrics are selected and using up
or down arrow (or clicking and dragging) will move all the lyrics.

I did a test guitar score and parts with 8.5 x 11, stapled and think
the quality was very nice. It only cost $6 so I thought running a
test arrangement with it would be worth it to judge the quality and
ease of publication

I'm going to be using it in the future

Re: [Finale] Fin2k8

2007-09-28 Thread Jeff Tanner

Just a few I've experienced:

Editing text jumps it around the page
The Panorama view during playback gets green lines all over it.
Page setup doesn't stay changed. You can change margins, page size,
etc. and it goes right back after dismissing the dialog

Crashes on Quit
Instruments not playing back - something goes wrong with the mixer

Those are a few off the top of my head

This is on an Intel Macbook pro

I'm sure the bugs will get fixed in a maintenance update, but for now
I'm not using version 5 and actually have been using Finale quite a
bit lately

It's neither a language issue, since it's not available in French,
nor a DVD issue, but simply Sibelius's commercial policy. For some
reason, they figure we Europeans should pay through the nose.

[Finale] Multimeasure rest breaks

2007-09-11 Thread Jeff Tanner

Hey everyone

I've got a part in the score that has 4 measures of rest, two are
before a System Expression rehearsal mark, 2 measures after the
rehearsal mark. Finale was converting it into a 4 bar multimeasure
rest, so I used the measure tool to put in a break in the
multimeasure rest. Now though, it makes it a multimeasure rest for 2
bars, Rehearsal mark, then 2 bars of whole rests. I've tried
selecting the two bars and doing the "multimeasure, create" popup
with the selection tool, updating the layout, and extracting the part
but nothing makes a difference. Any suggestions on this? (Finale
2008) Thanks.

[Finale] Expressions gone wild

I'm on Fin 2008 and everything was going well until I started working

Marks, inputted as Staff Expressions (boxed - set to display top
staff only in score and parts) have mysteriously duplicated
themselves and some seem to have disappeared. Anybody know anything
about this and also, is there a better way to do rehearsal marks than
staff expressions? Thanks

Which then Finale MIDI output is seen on the other end such as Virtual

This is how I have been using since I don't want to be restricted

I just realized Instrument List no longer let me assign output to
"Finale 2006 Output". If I enable IAC Bus, it shows up under the menu
so something has changed with FinMac 2006 to disable this function.

The scary part of this is that I am also no longer able to do this
with

FinMac2005b. I tried to fiddle with FinMac2005b MIDI setting which
resulted in a crash. The crash log suggests OSX, not Finale, itself
crashed at event handler. Bad.

Can some one confirm if you are still able to assign instrument MIDI
output to "Finale 200x Output 1 ~ 4"? Is there something I totally
forgot about for some reason?

Re: [Finale] FinMac 2006 installer WARNING!

Hi Everyone

FWIW, I just installed 2006 on a dual G5 Mac with Tiger and the only
problem I've had so far is the fonts not appearing. I think that was
because I forgot to restart after installing. Anyway, deleting the
com.Apple.ATS file in the library and restarting solved the problem.
(This was a problem with 2005 as well.)

BTW, I backed up my Application Support folders to another drive
before installing, but they were left untouched.

I'm sure they tested the shipping installer. But the kind of problem

Test results are only as good as the test.

I would bet my next paycheck that MakeMusic *did* test the installer,
and several times, but they didn't examine the areas in which the bug
turned out to happen.

That's a description of EVERY BUG IN EVERY PIECE OF SOFTWARE THAT'S

It's the bugs you don't find that bite you, and you can only find
them by adequate testing, and the test has to be the *right* test.

Unfortunately, sometimes the "test" that reveals the bug doesn't
emerge until the code is installed by the users.

I would actually blame the makers of the installer, myself, as an
installer shouldn't allow the removal of existing folders without
taking some kind of special action to make that happen.
