Re: [Finale] Measures missing in extracted parts (Win2014a)

2014-04-22 Thread John Blane
This problem will occur when parts are generated automatically before all of
the music is entered and "Update Automatically" is unchecked in the
Multimeasure rest options. My preference is to leave that unchecked so my
suggestion is to generate parts (re-generate them) only after your score is
complete.

Re: [Finale] Copying staff styles

2013-09-10 Thread John Blane
It sounds like a procedural problem. You can't have "Use Selected Staff Style
in Score and Parts" *selected* exactly.

Try this; in the score view, highlight each staff that has staff styles present
(or all staves, shouldn't matter). Now in the Staff Tool Menu or control-click
on a highlighted staff and now choose, "Use Selected Staff Style in Score and
Parts" and they should then appear properly in the parts.

Yes, make a new staff style for your slashes (ie. Hi Slash). After setting up
the slashes in the alt notation section, in the staff set-up, changing the stem
reversal numbers will move the slashes vertically. For instance, changing -4 to

Re: [Finale] GROUPS, barlines, instr names

2012-07-05 Thread John Blane
Can't be sure what is happening without seeing it but try this:

Go back to your score and make sure you have defined the piano group throughout
the whole chart. Now return to the part and change the group to not display the
name. That might fix your problem. Generating the piano part again may also do
it but you may not want lose the work you've done on it. Also, make sure you're
changing the group definition to not display the name as opposed to deleting
it. You can definitely have the score label and remove it in the part - there
just seems to be a necessary order to doing it.

Hope that helps!

Re: [Finale] TGTOOLS in 2012b

2012-07-04 Thread John Blane
I can't help thinking that if MM ever had a handle on how we worked with
Finale, they might have integrated the kinds of plug-ins and innovations we
have come to depend on Tobias for. They are indispensable, indeed. I would not
assume that MM could pick up where he left off or "maintain" TGTools as is. MM
has redesigned the staff systems in each of the last 2 versions among other
improvements/changes. It is no wonder that TGTools doesn't work the same in
this area without an update from Tobias.

It seems to me that Jari is our future and is slowly providing all of the
functionality of TGTools and then some that is up-to-date. It may be more
beneficial for us to support his efforts than to look to MM to fill these needs.

Re: [Finale] Piano not so grand staff?

2012-03-16 Thread John Blane
Yes, you can remove the empty staff.

2 things to check:
1) in the staff attribute for the LH staff, make sure the "Allow hiding when
empty" box is checked
2) Staff Tool: double click on one of the Brace handles to access the group
definition.
Next to "When Hiding Empty Staves", make sure "Hide Normally" is showing
Changing either one of these option should now let you hide the empty staff.

Those products are both designed for the size and weight of trumpet

I'm wondering if any of the trombone players on this list have any
recommendations for the clip-on trombone mute holders that clip to
the music stand? They'd need to support multiple mutes.

Here are two examples (don't know anything about either of them, and
also both are "currently unavailable):

http://www.amazon.com/Jo-Ral-Trombone-Mute-Holder/dp/B0007L6OGQ

Neither of them seem like they'd accommodate a trombone bucket mute.
But if anyone has any experience with these things, I'd be most
grateful for your input.
