Re: [Finale] Page view / scroll view mystery. Please help!

2017-04-23 Thread Sigurdur Jonsson
Hello.

I would create a new document with two staffs, same amount of bars as in your
old file and copy everything from old file to new one and work from there. This
is not a solution to your problem, but you will get your job done.

Hope it helps,

Diddi

[Finale] To finale list: Coloured noteheads, WHY?

2017-03-31 Thread Sigurdur Jonsson
Dear friends.

Now, on a new project, some noteheads come up coloured. I don´t think I changed
anything.

According to A-Z in user manual, it is said that in Windows ≥ Score manager I
can select coloured noteheads. But my problem is that I can not see that
notehead colours have been selected. How can I get rid of this, please?

TIA,

Hello friends.

Thanks for your input, it helped me a lot.

BUT, one question:

Where can I make adjustments so things like these (Document Options > Music
Spacing > Unisons) are permanent? So I don´t have to do it with every single
file I make?

TIA,

Thanks for the solution!

I entered the notes manually, in layers. But, it seems like I have to re-enter
the notes, it is not fixed as I do this in Documents Option. Will take some
time as I have done the Lyrics.

[Finale] Two notes versus one note

2017-01-29 Thread Sigurdur Jonsson
Dear friends.

Having trouble with ver. 20145.5.

I am writing for mail choir. Sometimes voices like 1. and 2. tenor or 1. and 2.
bass sing the same note. In that case I would like to see (as my previous ver.
of Finale did) one notehead with two stems, up and down. But in this ver. I see
two noteheads side by side, same note, and don´t find the way to fix it.

Any help here, please?

Re: [Finale] Double sharp gone?

2016-08-25 Thread Sigurdur Jonsson
Hello my friend, Jón Kristinn Cortez.

jef chippewa suggested: “...check your document options, "accidentals" tab to
make sure you have the right character set to show”.

So I went to Documents < Documents Options and selected Double sharps in Music
Caracters. Then came up the palette with many characters and I found the double
sharp symbol (x) and selected that. So when I asked for a sharp twice, I got
the right symbol, problem solved.

Bestu kveðjur,

 Hi Listers,

My Feb, 2014 stair-fall spine injury which followed my October, 2013
stroke is continuing to improve from daily exercise, Bromelain and
Lubrisyn (natural supplements - I can't take really anything in the
way of drugs for it, due to other side-effects from the fall), and I
am able to do much more work than I could a year ago, but I still find
myself at the mercy if others.I am asking, again, for engraving help.

I made this request before, in 2014, and the result was amazing. I
got help literally all around the world, from these listers:

 Dick Hauser (Washington State, US)
 Allen Fisher (Minnesota, US)
 Jim Williams (Indianapolis, IN, US)
 Richard Huggins (Tyler, TX, US)

And, especially, HUGE amounts of help from:

 Jón Kristinn Cortez (Reykjavík, Iceland)
 Bruce Kau (Hawaii, US)

Jon and Bruce have already helped a great deal on the new project, but
they have, uhh, LIVES and can't do it all.

As many of you know (I know how it is, you remember details about some
people, but not all, on a list like this) I had a stroke at age 60 in
October 2013, and followed that up with a bad fall on stairs in Feb
2014 which injured the base of my spine (be careful going down stairs
 - three members of my family are dealing with life-changing injuries
from a fall down stairs!). I can't sit for hours at a time like I did
for YEARS, happily typing away in Finale.

(I am typing this on my laptop, standing, but my Finale chops on it
are dismal, and the laptop is way too slow. I've tried
standing-desktop setups and they don't work for me.)

Meanwhile, I am in the middle of a big project, a grant (small, but
encouraging) to orchestrate the 'Music Play' Franklin's French
Affair by the late, Pulitzer-awarded composer Ernst Bacon. I am
working actively with the composer's widow, Ellen, to finish the work
that Mr. Bacon's failing eyesight would not allow.

I could really use some help! When I was healthy, I enjoyed nothing
more than sitting and making quick arrangements in Finale - did them
all the time for others, even strangers on the internet, and I am
thinking there are users like me out there who are still healthy and
wouldn't mind taking a few minutes now and then to pound out a file or
 two for me. Yes?

I only need help with STEP ONE: to take pdfs of Mr Bacon's piano-vocal
MS (quite legible) and input them into Finale - any version. There
are about 40 separate songs, some one page, some longer. I have #1 -
9 orchestrated already, and Bruce is finishing #10 as we speak. (It's
quite nice music - which helps!)

Many of you are pros, and have deadlines of your own, but some of you
may be able to share some work. No money to offer - I am getting a
little for the finished product, but not enough to spread around,
 unfortunately.

If anyone is with me so far, a message with I'll do one or I'll do
all I can or whatever is all I need to shoot some pdfs your way.

 Thanks for any help!

Re: [Finale] Saxophones and Clarinet and Trumpet transpositionquestion

2014-04-08 Thread Sigurdur Jonsson
Hi there.

I would suspect that when C sharp key is transposed for Bb instruments,
going two sharps up is normal, i.e. D sharp. I think you have to double the
score and change the copy to D flat (instead of C sharp) and take it from
there. Bb instruments would show up in D flat.

All the best,

Diddi

Select Simplify Key, I think. If that doesn't work, I often just supply
a staff style with the transposition set to display correctly. I think
it's interval 1, key alter -6, but I'm not in front of my finale machine
now, so don't take my word for it.
Or just use Clarinet in A.

Minor 9th up from B flat is C flat, according to what I learned. If so, it
is enough to place one b sign to the B and another to the C in the
beginning of the measure and musicians will play B flat and then up minor
9th, C flat all the measure.

[Finale] One-bar repeat sign.

2013-10-19 Thread Sigurdur Jonsson
Dear list members.

I am still on good old ver. 2008.

I am writing into Finale for publication, my late fathers music for a
feature film from his handwritten papers.

In one part, he writes for 1. and 2. violin and viola a pattern made of 6
16th parts notes in one quarter note space, I think it is called sixlet in
english. This pattern is then repeated three times in a 4/4 measure, giving
24 notes in the bar. In the next bar is a new pattern and so on, He writes
first 6 notes in each bar and then he writes three One-bar repeat sign
for each quarter note space in the measure. Writing 24 notes in each bar
for all three instruments would make the score look very nasty.

I have searched a lot to find a way to use the One-bar repeat sign in
this way, without luck.

Has anyone here a solution for me?

TIA,

Diddi
