Oh, my Mac has given me a few worries, too! Like that whole font
thing, where you could have several different versions of a font
available at different levels, causing only certain characters to
show up as other characters in some Finale documents...

Installing Finale only as administrator turned out to be a good
solution.

Why doesn't Finale tell him that right when the problem occurs?
MakeMusic quit obviously knows about this.

Not that this helps the situation much, but it doesn't
happen to all users on Vista -- I've never had a
registration issue with my laptop, which runs Vista-64.

That won't necessarily fix the problem -- it depends on whether or
not the registration process is performed by the Finale executable,
or is handed off to a different module. If the former, RUN AS
ADMINISTRATOR will do the job. If it's the latter, it won't, as the
other module will get the default user-level security token, not the
Finale executable's admin-level security token.

If that's the case, then it's a design error in Finale, perhaps
because the version in question predates the release of Vista.

There was a thread back a while ago that addressed this. Seems to
only happen to those who use Microsoft's VISTA operating system.
There is a work around. Check the backlog of messages or go to the MM
forums and search for it just in case tech support does not answer back as

Thanks for the advice. Problem solved.
Had the same problem when I bought a computer about 2 years ago, but totally
forgot the solution. Sign in as admin solved the problem.

You'll have to be more specific with platform, OS version and Finale
version. I hear on the MakeMusic website there are tons of questions
about this. Sorry I paid no attention because it all works with me.
