Yeah, it's a bug. They are SUPPOSED to display, and they claim to have fixed
it, but it isn't fixed. The workaround I suggested is just part of my routine
now.

I'll try that, but I always select display in Score and Parts when I apply
them.
Next time they don't show, I'll try your fix, thanks.

For Staff Styles not showing, I have a quicker fix for that particular bug.

In the score, select the Staff Tool. Select All (command A on my my Mac). From
the Staff Menu, select "use selected Staff Styles for score and parts".

Done.

Do this at the end, just before you start working on parts, and before you
create multipmeasure rests.

For Chords not showing, I've never seen that particular bug.

I've had to Delete Linked Parts and Re-Generate a few times because of
that, or Chord Symbols/Staff Styles not showing.
It works, but you have to re-format the parts.
Maybe only Delete and Re-Generate the problem Parts, not all, don't know...

[Finale] Multi-Meas Rests

2005-08-25 Thread richard.bartkus
Okay, I think that I must be having brain-fade here.

I have extracted a part from a score with multi-measure rests. All except one
have compressed and I cannot figure out 1) Why and 2) How to make it compress.

Other extracted parts compressed the same measures fine.

I have done the following with no positive results:

1 - Used the TEXT Tool and Multi-measure CREATE

2 - Used the simple entry eraser to make sure there wasn't
some glitch note that did not display

3 - Placed literal whole measure rests in each measure

Every time I extract after each of these changes, the result is the same; 7
individual measures with rests.

Any suggestions ?

Heh... compressed rests? You used to use MusicTime or Encore, didn't you? :)

I have done the following with no positive results:

1 - Used the TEXT Tool and Multi-measure CREATE

I think you mean the Measure tool, but that should have worked.

2 - Used the simple entry eraser to make sure there wasn't

To make sure everything is actually clear, use the Mass Edit tool,
select the measures, and hit clear. (Unless you're on Windows, in
which case you would hit Backspace.)

3 - Placed literal whole measure rests in each measure

That's exactly what you *don't* want to do. If there's anything real
in the measures (including rests, whole or otherwise), they will not
group together. There's a plug-in to change all real whole rests to
default rests; It's in the Note, Beam, and Rest Editing submenu.

Every time I extract after each of these changes, the result
is the same; 7 individual measures with rests.

Another thing to try would be to check the Measure Attributes for
these measures and see if Break Multi-Measure Rest attribute is
checked. That seems unlikely since other extracted parts are fine, but
it's worth a shot. Similarly, there may be some sort of measure
expression that is unseen (but, nevertheless, attached) that is set to
break the rest.

No matter what's attached to the measures that are making them
uncompressable, you can probably get rid of it by selecting the
measires with the Mass Edit Tool and selecting Clear Items... from
the Mass Edit menu. Tell it to clear Everything, and then creating a
MM rest with the Measure tool should work.
