Re: [Finale] Bill Duncan Font bug in 2012 - now fixed
Hi Darcy, Jari, Steve and all who responded, Nick Carter sent me the latest version of the ChordSym font, and the characters in question now appear in editing slots that are accessible in Finale 2012. The FAN files have been adjusted and the symbols are working correctly. I will let the MM people know too. Thanks again - especially to Darcy, who encouraged me to contact Nick and get the updated font (now called FPChordSym). I understand the fact that the 2012 FAN editor doesn't support characters above 255, and that's a bug in Finale 2012 (since they didn't expand the editor to allow the Unicode range). But characters occupying slots 257 and 259 would NOT be possible to use in Finale 2011 or earlier versions at all. So you would not be able to see or use these characters in pre-2012 versions. Pre-2012 versions could only support characters within the 0-255 range. I don't have Bill Duncan's fonts so I can't test myself, but this issue doesn't sound logical to me. Re: [Finale] Bill Duncan Font bug in 2012
Dear Jari, In order to explore this discrepancy, I opened Finale 2011 and looked for the problem symbols in the FAN editor. Lo and behold, they appear in slots 213 and 218 in 2011. How is it that they have migrated to different places when viewed in 2012? I'm sorry, if there is some element of understanding that I am missing. I am doing my best to supply all relevant information. Can you help? Re: [Finale] Bill Duncan Font bug in 2012
I haven't seen any major issues with the articulations font and 2012 finale. Some really old files that seem to use the BDFont (maestro) were messed up for me. Did you manually move all the FAN files into the Finale 2012 folders? I am insufficiently computer savvy to know if there is a way around this, short of moving misplaced ties, articulations, and expressions into place manually, thereby guaranteeing that they will be misplaced again when the FAN files are repaired. Does anyone have a practical workaround for this? MM says they are exploring the problem, but meanwhile - go back to v.2011. I can wait a little, but MM does not yet suggest a timeline for the repair, nor do they seem to guarantee that they will address it. Perhaps they are actually working on it. In any case, I am forced into being a paying beta tester, and I had volunteered to be a real one earlier, only to find that I am ill suited to the task. I wonder if any of the real beta testers ran into this issue. Darcy? Were you one? Another (perhaps harebrained) idea: might it be possible for Nick Carter, the owner/distributor of the Bill Duncan material, to move the symbols into earlier empty positions in the grid in which they appear, so that Finale could access them? I apologize, if this is an ignorant thought. I am responding to what I see on screen and have only the most rudimentary idea of what that might mean in terms of computer code. Hi Eric, Yes, the appropriate FAN files have been moved into the right place, but there is a real bug, acknowledged by MM. I have had a message from them that the right people at MM are working on it, so I am hopeful.
