[Fink-devel] galeon on 10.3 unstable tree fails to compile

2006-01-16 Thread Michèle Garoche
Back in March 2005 and May 2005 it was reported that galeon does not
compile on 10.3 unstable tree.

The situation has not changed so far. Could it be made so that it
compiles.?

Amicalement,
Michèle

[Fink-devel] Is python24-socket-ssl right?

2006-01-16 Thread Michèle Garoche
I just wonder if building python24-socket-ssl as it is in 10.4-
transitional unstable is right:

It depends on python2.4 which is at version 2.4.2 hence downloading
the 2.4.2 source.
But its version is 2.4, which means that it downloads the 2.4 source,
not the same as 2.4.2 source.

And it uses Modules/socketmodule.c and Modules/socketmodule.h which
are not the same in both sources.

Cheers,
Michèle

least several days, possibly longer, as I construct the 10.4
tree. Anyone who ignores the freeze can rest assured that their
changes won't make it to the 10.4 tree and they will have to redo
them later!

Prior to the freeze, I will declare a "CVS chill". During the
chill, I request that everyone keep changes in packages with GCC
tags to a minimum. Please do not update to a new version or
things like that, but feel free to fix bugs (including the bug of
whether the package has a GCC tag or not, if that is incorrect).

The CVS chill will happen in a day or two. I would prefer to
declare it immediately, but I want to give people a bit of advance
notice.

Many of those who maintain a package with a GCC tag will get an
email from me proposing various kinds of changes to the package,
during the period of the chill and/or the freeze. You'll make the
job of constructing the 10.4 tree much easier if you will respond
promptly to such messages.
Are changes to the doc ok meanwhile? (I mean do I have time to
translate what is not already translated or maybe just part of it?)

Changes to the docs are fine at any time. I will not be freezing
that part of CVS.

The substitution for strings like @PREFIX or @PREFIX@ is made by the
PatchScript of the package. Maintainers are free to do this however
they like. The important thing is to not use a string which would
otherwise appear in the source files.

[Fink-devel] mac-growl-pm586: fix it or I'll kill it

2006-01-16 Thread Martin Costabel

Could someone for whom mac-growl-pm586 builds and works please fix it?

On October 8 2005 I sent en error report to fink-users with CC to the
maintainer (thesin). Nothing happened except that someone (Daniel
Johnson) said that it built for him.

Today the same error is reported on the beginners list. When I wanted to
check the situation, it crashed for me in the same way, and not only that:

*It still installs - during the build phase! - things into
/System/Library/.*

I think this is such an outrageous behavior that the package, if it is
not fixed soon, needs to be scrapped.

2006-01-16 Thread Chris Dolan
Despite a crash during "make test", it installed OK for me (last week
from unstable on 10.4) after I installed mac-glue-pm, but I didn't
look into it closely enough to see the cause. To look for bad files
I ran this:

% locate Growl.pm
/sw/lib/perl5/5.8.6/Mac/Growl.pm
/sw/lib/perl5/Fink/Notify/Growl.pm

% locate growl | grep -v PreferencePane
/sw/fink/10.3/unstable/main/finkinfo/libs/perlmods/mac-growl-pm.info
/sw/fink/10.3/unstable/main/finkinfo/libs/perlmods/mac-growl-pm.patch
/sw/fink/10.4-transitional/unstable/main/binary-darwin-powerpc/libs/
perlmods/mac-growl-pm586_0.7-10_darwin-powerpc.deb
/sw/fink/10.4-transitional/unstable/main/finkinfo/libs/perlmods/mac-
growl-pm.info

/sw/share/doc/mac-growl-pm586/Changes

/sw/var/lib/dpkg/info/mac-growl-pm586.postinst
/sw/var/lib/dpkg/info/mac-growl-pm586.postrm

So, nothing Growl-related in /System for me. I looked over the .info
and I can't see any mistakes. I can't see how it could have
installed anything into /System, unless it's Mac::Glue's fault.  I
see in Mac::Growl's Makefile.PL that it is trying to copy files into
$Mac::Glue::Common::MACGLUEDIR but ONLY if you are running Mac::Glue
older than v1.24. Perhaps mac-growl-pm needs to depend on mac-glue-
pm >= 1.24?

Yo, this means there's something wrong in one of the deps. Shouldn't
be that hard to find which -pm586 accidentally has the wrong
perlXXX-core, or which perl-unversioned package is either bugged (or
worse, needs to be perl-varianted but isn't).

Yo, this means there's something wrong in one of the deps. Shouldn't
be that hard to find which -pm586 accidentally has the wrong
perlXXX-core, or which perl-unversioned package is either bugged (or
worse, needs to be perl-varianted but isn't).

Perhaps it's mldbm-pm.info (which is needed by mac-glue-pm)?
Everything else appears to be versioned properly. But on 10.4,
storable-pm is a virtual package, so it shouldn't be installing 5.8.1...

% grep Depends mldbm-pm.info
Depends: storable-pm | perl580-core | perl581-core, freezethaw-pm

I agree, just don't have the time to check them all, and I hate that
to install mac-glue-pm I have to install 50 other pkgs. I'd rather
just fix mac-growl-pm to not need mac-glue and just suggest it. But
either way all I added was mac-glue-pm(version) so it's not in growl,
it's further up, likely a dep of mac-glue-pm586. Either way there
are MUCH MORE broken pkgs in unstable then this. As I have never had
any problems ever installing it. Except on x86 but that is an other
story. I will fix this pkg in the future, removing it will just make
me forget about it, and since really only like 5% of ppl have this
issue, I'm not too worried about it, I know about and am working on it.

[Fink-devel] Take over pcre?

2006-01-16 Thread Daniel Johnson
Is it safe to assume that Christian Swinehart is MIA? I've seen
discussion of this before and my own emails to him from a year ago
have never been answered. I'd like to update pcre since fink's
version (4.5) is pretty ancient and I've been using the latest
version (6.4) for a few months now with no issues. Note that pcre now
includes a C++ wrapper lib, libpcrecpp, so it would have to have a
GCC field. I've compiled it with both g++ 3.3 and 4.0.1 successfully
for what it's worth, and noted so in the info file.

Any objections if I take it over?

[Fink-devel] mpg123 can't connect to http urls

2006-01-16 Thread Steve Hill
Not sure if this is the right address, but sending to pkg maintainer
email.

mpg123 pre0.59s-8 as shipped in fink (for tiger) doesn't play http urls
correctly:

cheesebook:~ cheesy 1$ mpg123 http://www.foo.com/foo.mp3
High Performance MPEG 1.0/2.0/2.5 Audio Player for Layer 1, 2 and 3.
Version 0.59s-mh4 (2000/Oct/27). Written and copyrights by Michael Hipp.
Uses code from various people. See 'README' for more!
THIS SOFTWARE COMES WITH ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY! USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!
socket: Address family not supported by protocol family

The problem is the use of AF_INET on the socket(2) call in httpget.c
that should be PF_INET. The following trivial patch fixes it (against
the original 0.59s source):

mpg123_httpget.patch
Description: Binary data

pcre appears to follow the freetype model of binary compatibility.
Compared to 4.5, 6.4 adds new things to the public API/ABI (new
functions, new elements in structs, new #defines and wider datatypes
for other #defines). However, it appears to use the same install_name
and does not appear to increment the compatibility_version. Granted,
they don't change existing prototypes, and they add to the end of
structs, so things compiled against old would work with new and things
compiled against new would work with old (as long as they don't use
any new stuff). But we're just askin' for user-land breakage unless
compat is incremented or a different install_name is used.
