[Fink-users] Beware of premature notices Re: Fink is dead.

2003-01-18 Thread Charles McCathieNevile
The CVS was announced as being online again this morning australian time
(i.e. yesterday in the US).

I tried it and it reset my connection eventually because I was going too
slowly :( I suspect other people will want to be wworking on it, so it might
be busier than normal for alittle while. (I don't know how long that will
last or whether it will be noticeable)...

Re: [Fink-users] Beware of premature notices Re: Fink is dead.

2003-01-18 Thread Brian Lenihan
From the SourceForge Status Page:

(2003-01-17 12:27:38)   As of the morning of 2003-01-17, project CVS
services have been restored (pserver-based CVS repository access
and ViewCVS (web-based) repository access had previously been offline).
A new limit has been established as (sic) that no more than two
pserver connections will be permitted at a time, per IP address; this
change has been made to ensure stability of developer CVS access as we
work to complete our scalability changes. Additional scalability
enhancements, including adjustments to our per-IP connection limits,
(to further improve CVS performance, both for developer access and
pserver-based access) will likely be introduced during the next two
weeks (watch this status page for details).

The site is dramatically slower since it came back online. I'm going
to be watching what they do with great curiosity as CVS is not the most
efficient server ever written.

[Fink-users] perl and fink

2003-01-18 Thread Gary Elshaw
Hi Folks,

Like a lot of folks i may have been rather foolish in upgrading the
perl installation to .80. The only real problem i have had thus far has
ben with doing fink list when i get the following:

dyld: perl Undefined symbols:
_Perl_sv_2pv
_perl_get_sv
Trace/BPT trap

I did the following commands as had been suggested:

mv /sw/lib/perl5/darwin/Storable.pm /tmp
mv /sw/lib/perl5/darwin/auto/Storable /tmp
fink rebuild storable-pm

which seemed to have worked ok. Oh and i've put: setenv LC_ALL C in
the .cshrc and .tcshrc files.

Any other suggestions?

Gary

[Fink-users] Compile problems and gcc_select

__Unwind_GetLanguageSpecificData

__Unwind_GetRegionStart

__Unwind_GetTextRelBase

__Unwind_SetGR

__Unwind_SetIP

__Unwind_DeleteException

While looking at some non-Fink C++ code I got the same error! What should
gcc_select choose for Fink builds? 2 or 3? Can someone smart help?

Re: [Fink-users] Mutt and URL's in e-mail: how to launch an aqua browser?

2003-01-18 Thread Josh Kuperman
Url view just extracts and presents all the urls in a list when you
hit ctrl-b. It doesn't decide what to do with them. I would love to
see Launch an example of a .muttrc using Launch as I'm not quite sure
how it would work.

Actually, I believe I need to do a major mutt reconfiguration because
now I'm almost alway using it in an X window and never the old
terminal window so all the X apps should be accessible as well as
others. I just start it up with xterm -fn 12x24 -sb -sl 1000 -e mutt

I use Mutt with Mac OS X as well as some Linux machines. I tried once
about a year ago to install urlview on MacO S X; I was unsuccessful. I
have been viewing html with w3m, a test viewer using a suggestion I
saw on this list of putting

text/html; w3m -dump -T text/html %s; copiousoutput

in my .mailcap

and having

auto_view text/html

in my .muttrc

This is adequate to see the html mail before trashing it. I'd prefer
to have html message show up in the list of attachments with the
option of viewing it, in a more recent browser or a different
browser. For whatever reason the links are never quite live with w3m.

I'd also like to get either antiword or OpenOffice linked to handle
the odd word or excel document. And actually I'd like my choice of
browsers since some attachments are really text and w3m or lynx is
easy. And every now and then, say once a month, I get an actually full
blow html message I might want to look at.

Mutt depends upon urlview to find URLs in a mail message and launch

an URL and what command should be run to launch it. My .urlview file
looks like this on a (non-MacOS) unix system:

 EXPERT
 REGEXP ht|f)tp)|https|file|mailto):(//)?[^ ]*|www.[-a-z0-9.]+)[^
 .,;]
 COMMAND remotens '%s'
[snip]
As an enhancment to this, I would strongly suggest to install the
launch package which is superior to Apple's open command in every
regard. To open URLs with it, you can do launch -l http://bla.com;,
so the above COMMAND probably would become

 COMMAND launch -l '%s'

Set the path in the menu to /sw/bin/xmms ... You may have to start esd

Unfortunately, none of those who posted this before have answered
questions about what they have in their /usr/local. And before you, none
even bothered to tell which dev tools they had installed, or whether the
problem disappeared afterwards. Hard to find the error in this situation.

[Fink-users] Mouse key mapping

2003-01-18 Thread Ronny Wikh
Hi!

I recently switched to a new Mac (two processors, lots of memory etc,
yumm!) and decided
to start out fresh with a clean disk and a clean fink installation -
just completed. Again
thanks to everone involved in the fink project!!!

However, I'm running into a little snag with X11, and while I realise
that this might not
be the best forum for asking about this, perhaps someone either has an
idea of how to
solve the problem or can direct me to the right place.

The problem simply is this, rather than the ordinary Mac one-button
mouse I'd like to
install the one Microsoft product I've found worthwhile; their Explorer
trackball. It's got
five buttons, a scrollwheel and nicely positioned and sized ball.

However, Apple X11 only recognises two of the five buttons. So I
installed the XFree86
software with fink. This version sees the buttons all right, but I
can't seem to find a way of
configuring the device. I'd like to map number five and four to numbers
three and two
respectively, get rid of the button function in the scroll wheel etc.
In short, make the
behaviour be just as on my Linux box. This takes some contortions in
the XF86Config
file, but here it seems as if that file is entirely lacking.

Does anyone have any idea of how to fix this?

Rergards,

Ronny Wikh

text/html; w3m -T text/html %s; needsterminal; description=HTML Text;
nametemplate=%s.html
text/html; w3m -T text/html -dump %s; copiousoutput; description=HTML Text;
nametemplate=%s.html

That way w3m renders with -dump inline and also will display
fullscreen from the attachment list. You could replace 'w3m' in the
first line with a script which allowed you to choose a browser. I
don't run Mutt on OS X so I always use w3m. On OS X I have a script
which checks whether I'm logged in from the console and uses w3m or
launch (which I wrote, so I guess I'm a bit biased :) alternately.

I should note that I have the non-ssl version of KDE installed, and have not
tried telling Fink to update to the non-ssl version (as I want ssl anyways).

Re: [Fink-users] Apple's X11 and OpenGL

Hi

I have probably the same problem:

Am Samstag, 18.01.03, um 19:18 Uhr (Europe/Zurich) schrieb

Ok, when I installed Apple's X11 I was in the process of installing
qt3, which I postponed until after receiving the new xfree86 dealie
from Apple. I'm pretty sure that I bork'd OpenGL. When I try to
install qt3 (through fink), it chokes on the linking stage. It has
several pages worth of unresolved symbols. Most of which refer to
OpenGL commands. The few unresolved symbols which aren't directly
from OpenGL, are from CGL (Carbon GL?), and xp (which I'm unfamiliar
with).

I tried reinstalling X11 a few times, since I think it comes with
OpenGL, but it hasn't seemed to help. I noticed that one or two other
programs I've tried to build against X11's GL seem to have the same
unresolved symbol issue.

What am I missing/doing wrong?

I can't start Apples X11. It crashes immediately with the following
error messages in the console:

dyld: /Applications/X11.app/Contents/MacOS/X11 Undefined symbols:

I don't know what the problem is. I tried several things to solve the
problem. I also reinstalled the OpenGL.framework from the 10.2.3
update. But nothing helped.
At my place, it appeared after having installed OpenOffice.

Has anybody an idea, what I could do?
Thanks!
Phil

Doesn't OO come with its own copy of xfree86? If you overwrote parts of
Apple's /usr/X11 when you installed OO, the behavior could be like what
you are seeing.

You could look with otool -L /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.dylib whether this
links with the OpenGL framework as Apple's does.

Another idea would be to setenv DYLD_PRINT_LIBRARIES, then start X11
from the command line and look which library precisely is complaining
about the missing symbols.

Check and see whether /sw/var/lib/dpkg/availble-old is good (It should
look similar to your new /sw/var/lib/dpkg/status). If so, then copy it
over /sw/var/lib/dpkg/available .
