[Fink-users] Xcode 2.1

2005-08-11 Thread Roy Mendelssohn

Hi:

I did a search of the archives about Xcode 2.1, and all I could find
was some discussion dated in June that Xcode 2.1 might break some
things in Fink. Is there anything further on this? Is it safe to
install Xcode 2.1 (and no I am not technical enough to solve all the
problems if a lot of things break).

TIA,

-Roy M.

It's safe to install 2.1. If there are still any packages which work
with 2.0 and not 2.1, let me know and I'll commit a fix. The most
common symptom of 2.1 breakage is the error array type has
incomplete element type. 2.1 fixes a couple of compiler crashes
which were affecting Fink.

[Fink-users] Re: gnome-app menu problem

2005-08-11 Thread Daniel E. Macks
Stan Sanderson [EMAIL PROTECTED] said:
OS 10.3.9, xFree86, unstable branch, all updates current , normal Fink
 install.

Problem: the contents of my Gnome 2.6 Applications menu have
disappeared. Clicking on Applications simply highlights the word; no
 drop-down menu appears.

The Actions menu works. I can use it to Run Application, calling
them as in command line. I can also use the actions menu to start
gnome-terminal and run applications directly. So far as I can tell, the
applications I have tried are running normally.

I do not know when the problem first occured, but believe it was within
 the past week.

I would be grateful for suggestions as to how to proceed. I have tried
 trashing my local preferences.

I *think* this is due to a change in how GNOME arranged their menu
packages. Starting in GNOME2.10 (approximately) they have a
gnome-menus package that provides the basic menus and infrastructure
for other menus. This package implements the same standards that KDE
does, and so it now conflicts with our kde packages: it installs files
with the same names, but different contents:( As well, there are
environment variables that affect this desktop standard that no fink
packages seem to implement or handle consistently. We're working on
it, but we don't really understand it, so we have not added
gnome-menus to fink yet. You could regain your old menus by reverting
to a lower version of [some package], but I dunno which one.

Re: [Fink-users] fink install gtk-sharp

2005-08-11 Thread Travis Smith
I tried to search the archives before posting, but gtk-sharp and gtk#
came up with nothing. I played around with the search a little more
and it looks like the search doesn't do anything. I guess I'll use
google to search from now on.

I tried editing the gtk-sharp.patch file as posted in the archives. I
then do a %s/ at /@/g to fix how the archives are displayed so it
works. Now I get this:

patch -p1 /sw/fink/dists/unstable/main/finkinfo/graphics/gtk-
sharp.patch

patching file Makefile.in
patching file configure.in
Reversed (or previously applied) patch detected! Assume -R? [n]

If I hit y then instead of removing that segment, it adds it twice
and if I hit no then the whole thing fails and that segment gets put
in a rej file. Is there something I can do to fix that?

Thanks,
~Travis

Two days ago, in a similarly named thread on this list, Victor Seva
posted an improved gtk-sharp.patch file that he said takes care of
this problem. If you don't want to wait until the maintainer
updates the patch file on the server, you can get it from the list
archive and replace it yourself.

delete the patch, fink selfupdate and build again. I committed the
updated patch already. :)

Before reporting any errors, please run fink selfupdate and
try again. If you continue to have issues, please check to see if the
FAQ on fink's website solves the problem. If not, ask on the fink-users
or fink-beginners mailing lists. As a last resort, you can try e-mailing
the maintainer directly:

Benjamin Reed [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I know that gtk-sharp compiles properly when following the
traditional ./configure make method, as I have already stated to
Benjamin, so here are 2 questions:
	1. What was patched between autoconf being run and the intial make
being done?
	2. How could I just package the compiled version of gtk-sharp in a
.deb file so then I could install my binary via fink?
	3. Is there a way to specify the last working version of gtk-sharp
so I could compile that specific version (that of course is dependent upon
whether or not the dependencies match of course, but it's another
thought).
I have experience with the Gentoo portage and FreeBSD port
systems, so I am aware of the versioning control that exists within those
systems. I was wondering though... is there a similar feature available in
fink where I wouldn't have to hack the debian package system too badly to
get it to work?

Thanks,
-Garrett

[Fink-users] Mono Programs [long]

2005-08-11 Thread Travis Smith
I'm having a number of issues.

First:

monodoc just isn't running. It will start up and I'll see the X11
window then *poof*, no more.

log
$ monodoc

I had something similar happen when I first installed monodevelop, but
after checking the archives I found that removing the gnome-vfs2-ssl
packages for the non-ssl packages fixed the problem. Is there
something similar I can do here?

Second:

Monodevelop crashes when I try to load it. It will go until the end of
the progress bar on the splash screen. I've tried deleting the
~/.config directory, but I've never gotten in for that to mess
anything up.

The obvious thing, libc.dylib not found. So I did an ' export

This just gave me another crash.
