I wouldn't worry about them.

Ok.

But if they annoy you, you can simply remove all those files. The
question marks indicate that these are files that exist on your
computer, but don't exist on the CVS server.

Oh, of course. I'd forgotten about that possibility.

No, it doesn't, and "fink dumpinfo quartz-wm" doesn't find anything
either. But this makes sense, because even though I've done a "fink
selfupdate-cvs", I haven't edited /sw/etc/fink.conf, so it only ever
looks in the stable and local distributions.

Now that I'm reminded of the possibility of one .info file describing
multiple packages, I see some indications on
 that indicate
that this is the case here. I'll try to remember to keep my eye out for
those in the future.

Nope.  It's a splitoff of the "applex11tools" package, so any
information about it is in that .info file.  Splitoff packages
needn't carry the name of their .info file.  In these cases "fink
dumpinfo can sometimes be more informative,
particularly if you aren't sure if something's a splitoff or not.

Do you mean that it doesn't show up as an available package in your "fink list"?

I wouldn't worry about them.

[Fink-users] 10.4-transitional/unstable

2005-09-09 Thread Richard Cobbe
Greetings, all.

I follow 10.4-transitional/stable through rsync, but I'm trying to
install a couple of packages from unstable (xorg and quartz-wm, after
having seen the recent post to macosxhints.com).

So I just did a fink selfupdate-cvs and tried to find the quartz-wm.info
file under 10.4-transitional/unstable, but it's not there.

I tried running fink selfupdate again, and I get a bunch of unknown file
messages from CVS; I've never seen these before in the context of a
"fink selfupdate":

? 10.4-transitional/unstable/main/finkinfo/x11/kterm-6.2.0-2.info
? 10.4-transitional/unstable/main/finkinfo/x11/pcb.patch
? 10.4-transitional/unstable/main/finkinfo/x11-wm/metacity.patch

(for example; there are about 150 of these, at a rough estimate).

So, two questions:

1) Why can't I find quartz-wm, even though the package database says
it's available? Is it just a question of waiting for this to
   propagate to all the mirrors?

2) Are the unknown file messages a problem?

Thanks,

Richard

[Fink-users] konqueror remote display

2005-09-09 Thread William Scott

Hi folks:

I'm using konqueror (kdebase-unified 3.4.2-21, 10.4.2, current fink)
to display remotely. I am unable to paste stuff into the remotely
displayed browser, even though I can do this for other X11 remote
displayed applications. I am using ssh -Y [EMAIL PROTECTED] to set
everything up. This seems peculiar to konqueror, and all the buttons
and everything work ok with it, and I can type into text fields
manually, I just cannot middle-click paste like I do into all other
X11 applications (both local and remote).

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Bill

Looks like /usr/bin/locale is only available on Tiger. ls
/usr/share/locale/ gives the same list, if you ignore the entries
which are just two-letter country codes.

Re: the glib error:

I came across this in the unison docs (see, e.g. [1]):

4) setup your locale environment properly
for example, export LANG=zh_HK.BIG5-HKSCS

otherwise, you will get
Uncaught exception Glib.GError("Invalid byte sequence in conversion input")

I can confirm that this fix works for me (I had to set up an
artificial test, which is why it took me a while to try it).
This is on 10.3.9 with unison 2.10.2 from the 10.3 fink
distribution [i.e. not the binary from 10.4-transitional, I
haven't tried that on 10.3.9, only the 2.13 binary].

But regarding your second email, I don't seem to have any
executable "locale" in my path, so "locale -a" didn't work
to get a list of valid options. I just used

export LANG=en_GB.ISO8859-1
since that setting is appropriate for me.

Many thanks for spotting this,
