I think Apple support of Mozilla and OpenOffice would be great too. Packaging these things by default with their OS would be a nice way to phase out Micro$oft products. Of course, OpenOffice on Mac needs a fair amount of work before it is production quality (thus suport from Apple would be great). Mozilla is currently quite robust and featureful. I've been using it for months on OSX (and much longer than that on Linux). Since these are not fink packages, but instead run directly on Aqua, I don't know how appropriate it is for fink to be requesting this. That my two cents though. :) Craig W. The menu's are easy to configure, as are all the other preferences. It loads pretty fast too. It's the one I use under OS-X. GNOME/sawfish is ok too, but I've had problems with some of my mouse clicks not reaching the window on top. Instead the clicks were being transported to lower windows, but only on OS-X. I use this combination at work under Red Hat Linux. Fvwm2 is alright too. I used to use it a few years ago, but in my opinion it's too much of a hassle to configure. This may have changed, but I remember editing the text configuration file, tweaking my menus and preferences in very painful ways when I could have been doing something more useful. I remember Enlightenment being real neat, but when I met sawfish my relationship with it ended. Lots of people really like KDE, and for good reason. It's very complete, but I don't like the way it looks. Plus it used to be non-free, and thus not philosophically appealing to me. It doesn't suffer from that any more, but I still don't like the way it looks. TWM comes with virtually every system. It's simple, ugly, and small (in memory). I wouldn't use it unless I was forced to for some reason. It will give you borders around windows, and the ability to move and resize them. Don't expect much more. I hope this little overview helps. If you have time you may want to experiment with a few (Window Maker, GNOME, Enlightenment, and KDE are all very good from a functional perspective), and see what you like. There's a lot of subjectivity in window manager choice, and the mature ones are at least 80% alike in basic functionality (i.e. they all work pretty well). -Craig > > > --- > This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek > Welcome to geek heaven. > http://thinkgeek.com/sf > ___ > Fink-users mailing list > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/fink-users -- +-+ | Craig W. Boot up linux and run ldd shisen-sho (or whatever the executable is) This will print out a list of libraries upon which it depends. [Fink-users] GNUCash
Does anyone know the status of GNUCash? I've been patiently awaiting it, but to no avail. I know that it has lots of dependencies and that may make it difficult to port. Is anyone working on it. I'm a fairly competent programmer and my check book is in a mess after switching from Linux to OSX. I really need GNU Cash. Can anyone give me an update or advise me on how I might begin porting it? If you reinstalled X either of these could be the problem if your .xinitrc file is ok. I run gnome with sawfish. It's very difficult pasting from an Aqua application to an X application. The way I tend to do it is open an aqua terminal vi tmp.txt paste into that file then open up that same file with a xterm vi session. Quite painful indeed. I can't come up with anything better right now though. As far as button two and pasting between X applications things are fine. I have the standard apple one button mouse. I toggle the middle button by holding the apple key on the keyboard. However, I can't get the right button to work at all under X. :) Maybe the second button works for you like this to paste between X applications. > > Any help would be greatly appreciated. > > Thanks, > David > > > Configuration: > % sw_vers > ProductName:Mac OS X > ProductVersion: 10.1.2 > BuildVersion: 5P48 > > % fink --version > Package manager version: 0.9.7 > Distribution version: 0.3.2a > > % fink info blackbox-rootless > Reading package info... > Information about 288 packages read in 1 seconds. > pkg blackbox-rootless version ### > pkg blackbox-rootless version 0.61.1-1 > > % fink info xfree86-base > Reading package info... > Information about 288 packages read in 1 seconds. > pkg xfree86-base version ### > pkg xfree86-base version 4.1.0-8 > > % fink info xfree86-rootless > Reading package info... > Information about 288 packages read in 1 seconds. > pkg xfree86-rootless version ### > pkg xfree86-rootless version 4.1.99.20011205-1 > > > ___ > Fink-users mailing list > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/fink-users -- Craig signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part
