[Fink-users] Xcode 8 and command line tools on Mac OS X 10.11.6
One of the iMacs that I use Fink on is an iMac (Early 2009) which can only upgrade to OS X 10.11.6 and no further. Xcode 8 supports OS X 10.11.6 but there appears to be no Command Line Tools since the May 3, 2016 that works on this iMac. All Command Line Tools since then require Mac OS 10.12. When I use Fink I get a warning message but so far have had no issues: WARNING: Xcode.app version (8.0) and Xcode Command Line Tools version (7.3) may not be compatible. [Fink-users] Many thanks to Fink development/support team (regarding my OS upgrade to El Capitain)
I was one of those persons who updated my desktop to OS X 10.11 forgetting completely how this would impact my installed Fink. Followed the email threads for the upgrade instructions and after seeing that was fully prepared to uninstall and rebuild my /sw directory. Since I’m retired and just doing this for “fun” it would not be the end of the world but sure enough a fix was ready super quick. [Fink-users] Fink Commander
I’ve got Fink up and running after upgrading to OS X 10.10 and the only issue I seem to see is Fink Commander being stuck in “Updating the table data”. Fink Commander is really really old and I’m wondering if there is a fix to get it working again? I looked at the FinkCommander mailing list on SourceForge and see some email exchanges back in March this year and a potential fix Regarding the issue with FinkCommander I've solved it by changing the path of PERL in the FinkCommander preferences. Do you happen to know what this change to the path is? I’ll poke around and see if I can figure it out in the meantime. [Fink-users] Question regarding fink and OS X 10.6.8
Reading the news section of the fink web site: fink-0.36.5 marks the end of 10.6 support by the Fink Project. Users who want package updates should contact the maintainers of the respective packages. Unmaintained packages can be updated by request as well.. I just want to confirm on my iMac running OS X 10.6.8 that it is now pointless scanning for packages or checking for updates. [Fink-users] Advice needed on best way to reinstall X11 and Fink packages
I got myself in such a mess trying to upgrade to KDE 4 and also had so many Fink installed packages that I decided to start from scratch and clean all the unwanted packages up. I emptied the /sw directory and started the reinstall of all the packages I wanted. One thing I forgot about was my xorg version of X11 so I never touched the /usr/ X11R6 or /etc/X11 directories. This got me to thinking should I go back and start over again from scratch as Q5.6 in the Fink FAQ talks about? Right now Fink Commander shows x11 as being installed=provided in the category=virtual. Any problems with this or am I going to run into future problems when there is an Xorg update to the x11 package? [Fink-users] downloading packages via fink on a different machine
I looked for the answer to this question in the fink doc's and faq but could not find it At home I have a G4 w/ Panther but only a slow network link. At work I have G4's and G5's w/ Jaguar with high speed network links. Is there a way that I can fool fink on the work machines and download source (or object code) packages, burn them on a CD and take it home. For example the Jaguar machines can't see the GIMP2 packages but my machine at home can.
