We may want to consider renaming to x64, or doing something like "Linux AMD64 / Intel 64" in the heading on the download page. Better just x64 - Intel 64 associates with ia64. Maybe, I'm not sure, on the other hand, Intel 64 is the official marketing name Intel itself uses for the x86-64 instruction set (since 2006). Our first binary package for this architecture (fb2.0 beta1) was published in 2005. And first chipsets, supporting it, were produced by AMD. I can add (looking at your post) that Intel's marketting after it was more efficient than developed by Intel 64-bit CPUs :-) The history is quite clear to me, but that doesn't change the fact that we can at least change the labeling on the website in an attempt to at least reduce confusion, right? And in that case, using the terminology used by the manufacturer itself might be preferable than using yet another name. [Firebird-devel] 32-bit builds check
Do not know why but 25% of users continue downloading i86 firebird binaries. Therefore we plan to provide 32-bit for fb4 too. Thoughs who can and wish please test http://web.firebirdsql.org/download/prerelease/linux_x86/ This build is not expected to support Centos !!! It was decided to not provide (at least for beta1) binaries for OSes having extremely old toolchain. If we see that we really need such dinosaur binaries we will add them after beta1 as a separate build and will provide 2 sets of binaries.
