so much trouble with the "bugs" Perhaps because Eudora keeps the attachment

Anyway I highly recommend Eudora e-mail. You can down load the software

"Eudora light" is free of charge and without ads and easy to use.

Hi Alison,

Best check directly with Catherine to see if she has more. She's a frequent

aware of an English edition.

Arve Bakken's book does give credit for most photos at the photo captions. I
didn't see any attributed to you in the chapter on Fjord's outside Norway, but
maybe he used them in a different chapter. I did notice two photos attributed
to Anne Appleby. There's also photos of Gayle Ware (spelled "Wave" in the
caption) on Woodland's Dustin, Dave MacWethy on a Fjord drawn carriage at
Libby, Gene Bauer and Susan Keating on a really nice looking stagecoach pulled
by four Fjordhorses in Ontario, Harold Jacobson with a Fjordhorse (Dragtind?),
plus other photos with names I don't recognize. There's a photo of Bob von
Bon and Arne Presthus on the page discussing the Fjordhorse in the
Netherlands. Wish I could read Norwegian!

This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Deb wrote:
...What size [bridles] do you guys use? How do you know? ...

Well, trial & error helps. ;-) Bit expensive though. I'd say Fjords
fit a variety of sizes, depending on their general conformation. I have
found out the hard way to never assume the throatlatch of a bridle will
fit fine just because the headstall is the right measurement. Fjordy
necks are often larger in proportion than other horses.

For instance, my gelding Tuopen takes a draft size halter & bridle,
mainly because his throatlatch is so large. Sissel has a large-horse
halter although her regular-size horse bridle fits fine. Her son Finn
wears the same.

I use a large-horse halter on Sis and Finn so they can eat comfortably
with halters on. The noseband of regular-horse halters are a bit too
snug for that. I never leave halters on my horses when they're in the
pasture, but I sometimes turn them loose in my front yard to mow the
grass -- for that, they're haltered.

For bridles, I measure from one corner of the horse's mouth over the
poll to the other corner. That's the approximate headstall measurement,
for use with a typical snaffle bit. If you use a curb bit, you might
want to subtract 2-4 inches to allow for the distance the bit extends up
from the horse's mouth toward the poll (the "purchase" I think it's
called). With the buckles set to the middle hole, the bridle's headstall
should be about the same measurement, within a few inches either way.

I also measure the horse's throatlatch mesurement -- around the throat
and poll, allowing for the looseness I'd normally allow when buckling
the throatlatch. The bridle's throatlatch should be about the same
measurements.

You can measure halters the same way, although the measurements don't
need to be as precise. My local farm supply allows people to return
halters if they're kept clean and the tags are left on -- you might see
if your tack supply has the same policy. That way you can try on
different halters to see which one fits best.

Yearling colt for sale

This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hello all

I hate to post the following message, but I've found in my limited experience
with horses, the more time I spend with them the more I bond with them; so,
we are selling our yearling colt. I simply don't have time to work with all
the horses I've collected and don't have a potential job for this colt in the
years to come. I would love for him to be that special horse to someone.
He is a bit on the drafty side and at 1 1/2 yrs old stands almost 13.2. His
nature is very quiet, so quiet in fact, that I've never in the year we have
owned him seen him truly afraid of anything. He has had a harness put on
him and it was a non-event . I've put my grandchildren on his back and he
doesn't react anymore than he does when one of my chickens hop up there. I
think, when the time comes, he will be easy to train.

His father is a canadian born horse -- Kervan Hostarsonson of Hostar
His mother is also canadian born -- Lulla both her sire and dam (if
I am
 able to
read my registration
 papers
correctly) are Norwegian
 born
(there is an "N" after their

  name on pedigree)

2001-11-27 Thread Dave McWethy
This message is from: "Dave McWethy" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Before I started Camptown Harness, I had trouble getting bridles to fit. I
remember sending new driving bridles back to Smuckers twice (they should
have known better) before I gave up on them. The solution was to make
bridles. There is nothing complex about fitting Fjord heads. You just have
to make bridles the right size.

At this point, we probably have made more harness for Fjord horses than
anyone else, perhaps excluding someone in Norway. I have joked that we make
harness to fit Fjords and adapt them to other breeds, rather than the other
way around! Not surprisingly, since my own horses are my models, Fjords are
the most prominent on our website.

Having said this about Fjord bridles, it happens that not all are the same
size. There are some that have larger noseband or crownpiece-throatlatch
measurements, and we make those changes from a "basic" Fjord size. The
most common problem in off the shelf bridles is that browbands are too
short. Fjords mostly require 18 inches, end to end, and occasionally but
rarely, 19 inches.

That's a good one. Fjords are even sort of potato chip in color. Just to let
you know. We are getting our 1st really measurable snow yesterday and today.
I think we have about 15 to 20 inches so far. At least my Fjord will stay
clean now and not have mud to roll in. Going out to shovel more.
