Congratulations Tami! You must be so excited. We
also bought a Fjord 'sight unseen' many years ago.
She was all we hoped she would be and is now over 30
years old. Seems I've had her forever.

. Thanks, Tami

Speaking of Utah - I have a question for you 'Fjord
people' in Utah. Last October we were camped at a KOA
just outside of Glendale, Utah. Just a few miles down
the road from the KOA - towards Glendale - we saw two
or three Fjords standing off by themselves in a big
field of 'other' horses. Any idea whose horses these
were? Just curious.

If you're ever looking for an extra job, perhaps you should!!

BTW, the T/B mare is doing much better, (at least from what she was after
the incident), although to her owner who knew her "when", she's got a long
way to go.

This mare is the daughter of Rose Argent, (hope that's right), whom I
understand was pretty famous. Of course, the only two T/B's I was aware of
were Secretariat and Man O War.

Thanks to all who showed concern.

Actually the registry I am the registrar for is the NFHR. The NFA of NA is
the other one we are in the process of combining with. The FBA is the
third registry.

Hi eveyone,
I'm new to the list and want to say hello. I presently have a 9 year old
Quarter Horse mare that I'm going to be selling. I've been interested in
Fjords for quite some time and am seriously considering getting one. What can
you tell me that would be of help in my decision? I've read quite a bit about
them and have seen a few, but have never ridden one. They remind so much of
my horse that I had growing up. He looked quite a bit like a Fjord but he was
a bay mixed gelding. Thanks in advance for all your help.
Regards and Happy New Year!

2001-12-30 Thread brass-ring-farm
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I saw this on one of my other lists and thought I would share it.

Before You Go

The forge was cool, the bill wrote out,
I had the cab door open.
The daily score was seven shod,
and one more owner hopin'.

As George stood up, his check in hand,
I thought I heard him humming,
And caught off guard, I must admit
I didn't see it coming.

"Pete, before you go" he said,
"You got another minute?
That filly's got a lame off hind -
I think there's something in it.

I thought you might could take a look
and dig around a bit,
If she objects I'll ear her down
so you don't take a hit.

And after that, if you've got time,
Old Major's shoe is clinking.
It's only been three months or so,
it's only loose, I'm thinking.

A little tap should snug it up
It won't take long for you.
You do it right, it ought to go
another month or two.

And 'fore you put your box away,
you got your nipper handy?
The mare has just a little split
that's going to be a dandy.

Unless it's taken care of now,
so maybe you could do it.
I meant to whack it off myself,
just didn't quite get to it.

And if you've got some propane left
to get some iron hot,
It would be slick to just burn off
that wart the dog has got.

And one more thing" he said, "you know
I really hate to say it,
I like your work, and what you charge -
you know I always pay it.

But there's one thing that gravels me:
would it be such a crime
If for our next appointment
you could try to be on time?"

Re: cutting the Fjord's mane, any suggestions?

2001-12-30 Thread coyote
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I too use a Fiskars heavy-duty shear to cut manes -- the large utility
shear sold for workshop use. I think it's under $15 USD. The points of
both blades are dull, not sharp. One blade is, oh, about 1/4" longer
than the other so the blades do not cut all the way to the tip. This
design is a little odd, but I figure it keeps me from inadvertently
cutting someone, including myself.

I also use a brush or comb to smooth the mane out as I cut, so the stray
hairs (at least some of them!) get cut. I also hold the back of the
brush or comb against the mane when I do a final finish cut -- seems to
give me a straighter line. I've seen barbers do that when they cut
bangs.

I sometimes use a lighter, smaller scissor to cut the stray hairs on and
around the ears -- gives me more control. I never clean the hair
completely out of the ears like you see on Quarter Horses or Arabs at
shows. I personally think that is too much for a Fjord. Just a light
trim of the ear hair so the hairs are flush with the outer edges of the
ears -- I've heard it referred to as a "pony trim".

For what it's worth, I clip the "goat" hairs under the jaw, but I don't
cut the heavy whiskers right under the chin. I never trim the fetlocks
or feathers on the legs -- just a good brushing is enough for me. I keep
the tail cut even with the back of the fetlock joint -- long enough to
be a good flyswatter and to look pretty, but short enough so it doesn't
get stepped on or get much mud in it.

Hi Reena,
you should have absolutely NO trouble registering your boy Gustav...both his
sire, Sven, and his dam Serina are registered in the NFHR and their
Bloodtypes/DNA are on file.
Have you familiarized yourself with the NFHR Pedigree section on the
nfhr.com website? It's really neat...you can do quite a bit of research on
it, plus, you can upload pictures to your horses pedigree page. Wish more
folks would take advantage of this, as it would add a new dimension to
communicating on this list: we can actually go look at the horses people are
referring to.

Hope you are all enjoying the weather back there; quite a change from out

To anyone on the list who is interested in Combined Driving with a pair I am
selling my FEI weight (250kg) Kuhnle marathon vehicle. Delayed steering,
extra step on back , seat moves from right side to center, two small seats
facing on back. I have taken many pleasure drives this fall with visitors
sitting up front or two in rear. I find that people love being on the back
as they have the option of standing or sitting. It's black with red pin
stripe.

I have used it for all phases in CDE. No presentation penalties under
Daphne Kellogg. It does have lamp brackets and also an expandable rear axle.
It's never been in an accident and is in decent shape paint wise for a
marathon vehicle. Nothing a little touch up paint can't fix. This carriage
is fairly new as it was only driven two seasons.

For those of you on the Southeastern seaboard I travel to NC, SC and Fla.
during the winter starting in mid February and could possibly arrange to
bring it down.
If anyone is interested please e-mail me or phone 802 885-5762
