Enjoying our little Hasse :)
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi Everyone!! Family and friends are so enjoying our little Hasse. We have had a steady stream of visitors. Hasse has been well socialized to humans:) With the heat of the summer approaching (90 and humid today) I want to body clip him. Please don't laugh - but, I need to know if I run the clippers WITH the hair or against the hair? We have clipped ears, bridle paths, legs ..but never a body clip. Thanks for your advice! A cute fjord story: We have had company for a week - one evening my sister-in-law and I were putting horses in for the night. I routinely just open the back barn door, the horses file in and go to their stalls. All goes well unless the first horse goes to the wrong stall - does not happen very often but when it does there is alot of commotion. This particular evening the lead horse went in the wrong stall, the other horses are now confused, plus, the goats got in (all 7 of them)!! Pandamonium! Horses eating each others grain - goats jumping and leaping - horses going in and out of stalls. My sister-in-law and I were laughing so hard we were almostwell, you know:):):) When we finally got the horses where they belong and corraled up the goats we realized.WHERE IS HASSE? He was snug as a bug in SVEN'S stall, looking for the bottle and mom, Lena, was not the least bit concerned!! Once again, sister-in-law and I laughed our heads off:) Happy fjording! Re: The Worth of a Good Horse
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi, I agree that you should get a horse that is suited to you. But price is a factor, I am a back yard horse owner and cannot afford a 2,000 dollar horse so it would be a waste of my time and the owners time if I look at one. I don't think price should be the sole factor in choosing a horse, but almost everyone must take price into account. It's not a bad first question so you know if your wasting your time. Just my humble opinion. Bye Erica
Where's Lisa????
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] My timing is usually really rotten for the Sunday night fjord cha, so I don't get to talk to Lisa there very often. And we usually hear from her on the list a bit more frequently. (Lisa Pedersen). I want to hear about the Hostar/Linnea baby! Lisa? Are you listening Pamela

This message is from: Jean Gayle [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mike, I think having a sign on my fence advertising that my horses are micro-chiped and branded is a good idea. We have had some serious horse thieving at times around this area. This message is from: ruth bushnell [EMAIL PROTECTED] What do some of the other members think? Is it time for the NFHR to start requiring microchips now? Mike No, it's not the time to require microchips. It would only be an unnecesary expense in many cases (eg geldings) because of DNA testing and if there is already a rule for evaluations... why change it? I can see where microchipping has been more important in Canada because it hasn't been that long since they started DNA. (or so I think). Ruthie

[EMAIL PROTECTED] Since so many of us are members in either the NFHR /or the CFHA. I would like to run a few thoughts past you. I beleave it would better the NFHR's credibility too have a better way of identifying horses. In the CFHA we are required to microchip all registered stock. Unfortuneatly some microchips do migrate but over all most stay put and are a defineate way of identification. I know my horses very well but have had an instanse where a couple of mares I bought did get mixed up. I borrowed the microchip scanner from my vet to just make sure. Luckily they were Canadian horses with microchips and the mix up was detected. It could have been an awful mistake to have these mares mixed up. I do most of my registering in the NFHR now, and feel it would better the organization to use microchipping or branding or some positive form of identification. Is there any reason not to ??? No Lauren there is absolutely no reason not to other than the cost of do the chipping and the cost of the extra scanners the NFHR would need to be able to offer them to all of the people that would need to borrow them. We have been buying extra scanners over the years with the intent to someday require the microchips. The NFHR does require them if a horse is going to be Evaluated. The NFHR strongly encourages everyone to microchip their horses but it is not yet a requirement for registration. We do however as you know require DNA typing. If you had a real problem with a horse being mixed up we could do another DNA test identify the horse by DNA. This of course is more expensive that a simple microchip though. What do some of the other members think? Is it time for the NFHR to start requiring microchips now? Re: Firefighting and fjords
This message is from: Jean Gayle [EMAIL PROTECTED] Dr. Hans, spectacular pictures. Very interesting. Lovely calm fjords and what are the black horses? I like the cobble stone street with the lines laid out in fitted rock for vehicles. Rarely see cobblestones over there anymore, let alone with marks for parking. The 13th Warrior
This message is from: Krist Martinsen [EMAIL PROTECTED] This message is from Krist and Jeanine Martinsen Because we heard of the Fjord Horses shown in the Thirteenth Warrior, we rented the video. We suggest that you go spend the time training or enjoying your horses instead of wasting your money on this movie. Mostly battles with gore and difficult to tell what was really happening. Just glimpses of Fjords. We seldom rent videos, so it was a disappointment.
