Blue Earth Show

Hello from steamy Corcoran, Minnesota

My daughter, Anne, and I attended the Blue Earth Show with our new mare,
Lena, and her colt, Hans --- and, of course, the All Things Fjord More!,
business:) We had a blast - lots of good laughs, stories and now.plans
in the works for next year:)

Lena and Hasse were shown in halter classes - good thing we have no plans
to run a breeding business as neither had a good placing (but they sure have
GREAT temperments!!! :) ) - and Anne could not show Lena under saddle due to
lameness - but, Lena and Hasse entertained many spectators while Hasse was
ponied around the arena and walked around the grounds. Hasse was a good
ambassador of the fjord - allowing people to touch him and oggle over him.
He and Anne were photographed for an area newspaper - a color photo of them
landed on the front page, advertising the fair and fjord show. Next year,
Hasse will stay home and Lena and Sven will get to go.

The weather was terrific! Payback for last year:)

Our business was booming! Thanks to all the fjordy-fans who stopped
by to shop. We have a few things left that I will put on the list - stay
tuned! It is bargian time:)

Anne and I, along with Kristin Lee and her daugher (as a caravan) left around
8pm, Wed. evening, for home. It started raining as we entered the metro area
and I was getting really tired (11pm by now). Anne and I were struggling to
stay awake. At long last we were in our driveway -- and it was pouring! We
hesitated a few minutes woke up an hour later, horses still in the
trailer:) :):) Stumbled to put them in their stall and hit the sack! I am
recovering - but the trailer is not unloaded yet:)

Totally fun to hang out with fun fjord folks beautiful horses !!!

I just heard on the radio that a case of West Nile is suspected in a horse
not far from me - first case. Glad we vaccinated!

With our horrible heat, humidity and continual rains the skeets are a big
problem!

Mark,

Haven't you talked to your vet about West Nile? I had thought all the Great
Lake states had been alerted to vaccinate this year? We vaccinated a few
months ago. The torment and costs of a horse with West Nile would be
overwhelming plus from our understanding, usually results in the death of the
horse.

I am looking for a Bard pattern to use on Lars. I am not the best sewer but
with a pattern I can manage. I have searched the internet and library and
pictures are great but I need a pattern.

Anyone know where I can find that sort of thing? I am wanting it to be for
around the 15-16th century Scottish however I am not into having it have to
be 100% authentic. Anything that would look appropriate will work. I prefer
not an entire cover and would like to have the piece that goes around his
 front.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

 Deb

Hello All -

We finally have our website back up after 6 months of problems (long story).
www.thehorsegarden.com is linked just to our www.fjordsUSA.com page at this
time. However, we have placed a www.hestehaven.com page for our personal
Fjords that are for sale. Please take the time in looking at
www.hestehaven.com if you are interested in fjords for sale. We will be
keeping this ONE PAGE site updated monthly.

Thank you all for your patience when it came to the www.thehorsegarden.com

 Hi all,

Boy, is it hot here! 105*, calm and sunny. Our 3rd cutting of hay is
being baled as I type this.

Hi Taffy,

If you are real new to driving, I would start out with an easy entry cart.
They are much easier to bail out of if necessary. Go to the archives for
all the aussie saddle discussion.

Blue Earth

2002-07-26 Thread Mariposa Farm
This message is from: Mariposa Farm [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Congratulations to everyone who went to Blue Earth. It was a fun show and we
had a great time. The weather was nice to us northerners and wasn't 95
degrees with 99% humidity! I had a chance to work the in / out gate on
Wednesday afternoon and I really appreciate how cooperative and easygoing
everyone was. I've worked some other shows up here in my area and that's not
always the case.

It was great seeing everyone again and to be able to sit around and talk horses
and horse stories. Heard some good ones. Skyview Farms showed us all an 8 up
hitch which was breathtaking (for us as well as them I'm sure.) Rich Hotovy
helped drive and the whole thing was quite impressive.

Shameless brag follows: Our colt, Mariposa's Bragi (not Bragger as was
announced!?), took first place in his weanling class. Which made us very proud
because the class was very good even though it was on the small side. Bragi was
pretty happy too since he gets to keep his equipment for awhile longer now. I
for one would like to see those classes bigger. It's pretty easy to show them
at that age. Just hold on! The two stallions who took Champion and Reserve
were Tom Han's Rokida's Haakon and Ron Davis' Gromar's Rodrik respectively.
This was neat too since we just bought a full sister to Haakon (Rokida's Berit)
and bred one of our mares, Fair Acres Alida to Rodrik this year. By the way,
Alida is still for sale and more info on her can be found on our website at
http://www.mariposafarm.com

Lastly, I was recruited pretty heavily by Fred and Ranelle Brandt, Alan Merril,
Kit Davis and a few others to run for one of the upcoming openings on the NFHR
Board this fall and figure it's time to step up to the plate. I welcome any
others from the Registry to do the same, (especially from the midwest since we
are losing two of our seats). I would also appreciate any support given too!
I'm looking forward to increasing my participation in the NFHR.

And here is a good one that shows a map of where it has been found so far
this year. Looks like it hasn't traveled west of about Texas so far.

Unsolicited opinion looming. These dogs who were bred to herd can, and
must, be taught to obey. What do you think goes on at Sheepherding Trials?
The dog has a job that he is genetically equipped to do, but he follows
orders and also knows to stop and drop when signalled.

I have a Queensland-McNab cross. He has a strong herding instinct but I
never allowed him to chase my horses. If the dog knows, Down, Stay, Come
like he should, he won't be a problem. I don't think I have ever heard
anyone say, My dog has a really strong instinct to pee on the floor so I
shouldn't try to train him not to do what is natural for him. So why allow
that thinking around horses?

That's enough from me for now. Anyone know how to train a pistachio tree to
produce a finished product? I work with Nuts. You'd think I 'd know what to
do with a pistachio.

The dog can be trained to leave the horses alone But you must be very firm
My Aussie, Border collie, and Beagle all
leave the horses chicks and donkey alone (also had a llama once)
because Mom gets REALLY MAD when you chase them
and I'm the Boss (at least with them)

Now I'm trying to get the Hot-dog to understand the rules (yea right)
