Hi Tamara,

Great news! The feet sound easy to fix. So glad you like him and are
getting him. Sounds like he will get a good home too! Be sure and send me
pics as soon as possible.

We met Harrison today and what a doll! He and my 7
year old son took right to each other. Harrison would
put his head up against my son's chest and my son
would cuddle him. My daughter, son and myself all
took a turn on his back. He is a big boy - at least
15 hands. Very nice form. The only thing I wasn't
happy about was the shape his feet are in. Very badly
in need of a trim with chipping, some superficial
cracking, and flaking. The owner says she has a hard
time getting anyone out to trim her horses' feet and
they all looked past due. We have a deposit on him
and pending passing the vet check he will be ours. He
is exactly what we need in a horse. The kids and I
talked about him almost non-stop on the two hour drive
home. You know when you have a really good feeling
about something? Well that is how I feel about
getting Harrison. Thanks to those of you who have
given freely of your time with input on the lines and
buying procedures. When we get him home and I'll see
if I can't get some pics on one of those free sites to
show you.

Tamara

Hi Karen-

Was Dagrun your SS?

In Norway you have to be a member of a regional club to compete. Each club
has its own events in preparation for nationals, where you represent your club.
Like San Francisco, Oslo is its own city and county. Akershus is the next
county.

It surprised me to learn that, even in Norway, Fjord people are different,
set apart from "regular" horse folk. This is reflected in club names. Most are
called so-and-so-county "rideklubb" or "kjoereklubb" (riding club, driving
club). Fjords owners can be members, but more often they join the
"Fjordhestlag"
(Fjord horse division).

Oops! That last post was meant to go to Cynthia privately. Too quick on
the SEND button.

But as long as it's out there, a big thanks to my Secret Santa, whoever you
are. Your package arrived earlier in the week. It was a ball cap, tee
shirt and decals with a fjord horse logo. Now I just need a translation
from someone who speaks Norwegian:

Please, Secret Santa, 'fess up. Who are you?

You can email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] or on the list. My hotmail
address is a bit dodgy on the receive side unless you're in my address book
already. I used to get 50 "junk" (non-address book) emails a day, but
hotmail went to a new format and suddenly I'm getting maybe four or five a
day. I don't miss all the porn and spam junk mails, but I have a feeling
other people's emails are not arriving either.

Thanks again, Secret Santa, and a big thanks to the Head Elf! Good work.

Happy New Year, all!

Karen

Thanks for the good work.

Do I have a problem ? There is nobody out there .

Hi,
OK I'm here and read the list several times a day. OOPS !!! Now you all
know that I am an email junky, but the list is so interesting most of
the time and not to mention very helpful. So what have I been up to. I
have a new way of hauling great sled loads of fire wood out of the
woods. Since I no longer feel confident to walk behind Heidi while she
pulls the load, I now ride her and just use part of the harness to hook
to the very large plastic sled. She snakes that load out and to the
house in no time flat. My husband was most impressed when I backed her
up to the sled load each time and Heidi stood quiet for him to hitch the
sled even though she had a young maple sapling between her back legs.
Then when done I just unbuckle the neck strap, the harness drops to the
ground and she walks over it. My hubby picks up the works and I go for
a ride. It's a ton of fun and I take family members for rides that way
too. Today I saddled up and used the easy boots with studs attached for
a nice ride before our weather gets very cold. I am so glad I had the
keeper straps on when Heidi started to jump around a bit in the middle
of the road and knocked one of the boots off. I noticed right away that
her step did not sound the same and removed the one boot. I sure do like
the shorter Fjord for getting on when not at home. I usually just put
her in the road ditch and she is the right height for me to step back
into the saddle. I guess I will have to make an adjustment to the back
easy boots so they stay on better. She is very comfortable with the
studs in now that I have a pad between her hoof sole and the stud
heads. Before you would have thought she was walking on egg shells and
I did not use the studs after the first time until I figured out how to
make them more comfortable for her. It seems that the easy boot company
has a good idea about the studs, but they need to make one more
improvement. I am still very careful on the icy spots. We saw our
first snowmobiles on the trail a couple of weeks ago and I was thankful
we were about 25 yards from the trail when they came by. She is not
afraid of them, but has never seen anything on "Our trail" before. She
had to have a very good look at them to make sure they would not come
over and bite us and I have learned not to urge her on any too soon and
to just let her figure it all out and talk to her in the meantime. So
this is my winter fun and soon I will have 3 different sleigh rallys to
attend and help out at. Perhaps next year I will have a sleigh to
participate with, but hitching in the bitter cold is not to my liking.
Guess this got a bit long, but a Happy New Year to all and now you know
what keeps me busy.
