Re: fjordhorse-digest V2004 #16
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wanda, There is an 8 month old Fjord colt for sale in Michigan that is a white dun for $2200. I would love a white dun. They are basically white with all the black in the right places. I want to call about him. The Baileys own him and they are down sizing. He has probably been handled a lot. I don't need to do this. where is the sun?
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Jean in Alaska - We just got back from a cruise to Antarctica and I found your sun! It rose there at 2:30 am and left at 11:30 pm. Very difficult to get used to, don't know how you cope, though I am sure at this time of year you are looking forward to it. Valerie Columbia, CT

I wish it could be removed from the internet totally. My vets here at our clinic were just LIVID when I told them about it. They even took information to the convention last winter to see if they could get it stopped. It has caused a lot of people to not give the shots and in turn will allow the spread of the disease and loss of a lot of horses needlessly. A horrible, painful death from what I have heard not something I would wish on anyone. Fjord Stallion
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi All, Hope winter is treating you well. This year will be a big one for us. Our mare Tone' (Torungen and Malla) is currently learning to pull a cart./wagon. She is doing so well. She is 10 ,so it's about time. Then we have her filly Tonetta (netta for short) (Rusten and Tone') who is 3 this year. She is gonna learn it all. Then we have our two year old Stud colt that I have been keeping quiet about because I am still waiting to see how he matures. He's a beauty and BIG. WHR Elsker (Eric and Opal). Here are some questions for you 1. At what age do you all spend the time and $$ to evaluate? What percentage of 2 year olds are even given a blue? I don't know whether to wait until he is 4 and rides and drives to spend the time and $ to evaluate. or Do I bring him to Libby this year at 2 for just conformation. We are only 5 hours away 2. What age do you start breeding your stallions? 3? 4? I think 2 is too young for myself to consider and I want another year to see if he is worthy of keeping his jewels. So far so good and he is a sweety to work with. Anyway. We have been having a blast pulling wagons around in the snow with Tone' and the Belgian mare she is paired with by the trainer. We are gettting twice a week lessons and I can harness and hitch all by myself now LOL Although my main problem seems to be judging the width of the wagon and turning radius. but Im getting it!! Re: WN vaccine problems
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] You must be very careful when reading anecdotal reports like these. Birth defects and abortions can occur anytime. When you think of all the things that must happen at very specific times in fetal development it amazes me that we have as many normal babies (animal or human) as we do! There are always reports like these anytime a new product comes out on the market. Remember the Qwest wormer reports? I have vaccinated hundreds of horses and many of them pregnant mares and I have yet had any adverse reactions. This is the same report that I am getting from other veterinarians across the country on my equine vet email list. If this vaccine was truly causing a problem, I should have seen something by now. In 2002 Nebraska had over 900 reported cases of WNV. In 2003 there were only 40+ reported cases. I think this says a lot about how well the vaccine is working. This message is from: "Hope Carlson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hello all, I came across this fjord cross advertised: http://www.horseclassified.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/classifieds.cgi It sounds to me like one of the PMU youngsters being put to good use. Interesting. Thanks, Catherine, for your post on the elections. How does the teleconference meeting work? Does everyone have personal computers capable of it? Is it an open meeting? I am just curious, have no special agenda. Starting Evie on cows. We are getting two steers this weekend, red angus/shorthorn cross. From the farm two doors down, long time tight breeding program, w. traditional feeding program so feel pretty safe in the midst of all the BSE scare stuff. Anyone with experience starting a 9 yr old mare, not quite under saddle a year yet, on horse eating cattle, please email me. I'd like to stay in one piece. Thanks, and good winter riding, Hope Harvard, IL

Re: Character in foals
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] I enjoyed the post re dominant mare - jittery horses, In my "herd" of 5 horses my mare is the alpha. I, too, seperate into two groups. Sven and Lena (alpha) do well togethershe being the dominent one, but, in a kind way. When she is in with all the horses she not only fusses about her space but that of the other fjords. I can also put Hasse (son of Lena) in with her and Sven and all is well. Add the QH or the App.things get crazy. For a time I had Sven, Hasse and Miss Dottie Lottie (leapord app) at a farm nearby. They often commented that there seemed to be no dominent horse and that they all got along beautifully. So, to keep everyone calm I seperate. Safer for handlers as well. Isn't it funny though.take one of the herd away from the group and the ones that can't seem to get along fuss the most:) Have a great day.it is so da** cold here today I am crazy! Way below zero :( Linda in MN
