 Hello List.

I have just come back from the Face to Face in GA. I was honored to be there.
I am equally honored to Chair the 30 th celebration for 2007. Yes, we are
already starting to plan. Seems like yesterday we were at Winona
(sigh)..Anyway..I am looking for your help.

This email is a request that if you have any ideas for a place for us to hold
our next show, please email me at home at this email or my work [EMAIL
PROTECTED] or [EMAIL PROTECTED] I would ask that you provide me with as much
details that you might have..i.eweb site, contact number and name, how is
that you know this place, city and state would be helpful as well.

Some items we would like to see, easy to get too either driving or near a
airport. Arena indoor to accommodate large numbers with 3 other arenas. Two be
used as a warm up and one to show in.

I will be sending out an email to those that all helped/chaired/volunteered at
the 25 th. I am looking to see if you would like to be on the committee for the
30 th as well. I am also looking for others to volunteer as well. If you are
interested please let me know.

I look forward to hearing from you and invite you to participate in the
planning for the 30 th Anniversary.

Several years ago when I was doing a lot of mountain pack trips [In
Alaska]

I knew a lot of packers that would not have a mare in their pack string.
Jerry Friz,>>>

THERE IS a practical and valid purpose for that principle. If a mare is
approached from close behind, she may go into defense mode against

another horse's possible notion of mounting, and reactively kick
backwards. The same is true of single-file trail riding, leave a
comfortable 2-horse length distance behind a mare.

Keeping Fjord mares and geldings mixed together has never ONCE been a
problem here and I can't imagine that it could be, but maybe Fjords
are the exception to the rule.

Fjords are incredibly wonderful for daily management, never menacing
and sweetly compliant. Just don't dally at the top of the "pecking
order" food chain in an open area. =))

Hi Guys!

In addition to the Scottish shawl, I've come up with an Icelandic
blanket. It's in Icelandic sheep colors (mostly shades of cream and brown) and
has
pictures of Viking long ships and outlines of Iceland as its pattern. I figure
that if you start each of these items at $20 or $25, you ought to get an
opening bid for sure...after that, who knows? I may be dragging some liquor
along
too...we'll see.
Barring the great blizzard of '07, these items will be arriving with me
on Thursday night. Just let me know where and when you'd like them delivered.
See you then!

illness demeanor & training too

2007-01-18 Thread Pat Holland

This message is from: "Pat Holland" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

I mentioned about the illness issue in Fjords and sometimes that demeanor
dovetails with training too -

For example - a bad fitting saddle on another breed might cause them to buck
or create bolting issues - where in a Fjord - you might just get less
"willingness" - to say, canter, or relax, or extend a trot. They still
TRYeven when things don't feel right - but they tend to give less -
thus causing the term "stubbornness" to find its way into the Fjord
terminology and discription. They aren't stubborn - they are just saying "it
hurtsbut I'll give you all I can."

The same with bits - Fjords tend to get heavy if it's the wrong bit and lean
into it - where in other breeds they throw their heads and you feel like
your riding without steering - with some Fjords it just feels like your
trying to steer a semi loaded with iron ore.

A very good trainer once told me that the Fjords make you a better trainer -
and I think it boils down to the little-quiet things they tell us - so you
have to be more "tuned in".

Just a thought.
