Cute story one for the birds

2008-05-19 Thread MorrisShadowMT

I went out to do the evening feeding. I loaded my tractor with usual 4
bales of hay and the extra grain for the mama's. I brought Lordalen in he
was
quite the frisky boy today. Then the rest of the youngsters all follow me
along the fence. They absolutely adore the tractor . I got everyone
out side fed and proceeded down the barn isle. I go so far and then move
the tractor again. Just as I hoped down I saw a baby sparrow that must have
fallen out of its nest. I went around to grab some hay and feed a couple of
more horses and then looked back and could not find the baby bird, so I
checked under the tractor and no bird.Drove a little farther down the isle

stopped and got out to grab some more hay and there that little bird was in the
bucket of my tractor!I pick it up and tried to set it on a bale of
straw, but it would not get of my hand, so I decided to see if it would get on
my shoulder and sure it hopped right on and went and cuddled up next to my
neck, so I went about feeding. The little bird stayed there the whole time.

I got back on the tractor and off we went. I Put the tractor up and went
out to fill some water tanks the little bird still stuck on me.I got to my
last water and all of a sudden the little bird stared to chirp!I heard
another bird answer. It was the mamma and daddy theyflew in and landed on a
near by tree and talked to the baby on my shoulder and he kept answering
back and then all of a sudden he climbed out to the edge of my should and took
flight! He just barely made it to the tree were his parents were..

And after all that I did not think that he could fly yet!

Every year I have hundreds of babies born in my barn, mostly swallows and
they always come back each year and it is very nice when they are here as I
have no bugs at all in the barn ( the best fly control ever) I am a little
concerned as what is happening in the environment as I have the fewest birds
that I have ever seen in my barn. Is this happen to any of you as well?

Old saying is true, "you can't just have one". BIG CONGRATS to
Catherine
Kendall on her purchase of Lord's Geir. The Super adorable gray
gelding I had
on consignment here at FCF. Catherine bought their first Fjord from
GVF a year
ago I believe, and are so in love of Fjords , they just had to have
another
one. Thanks for Sophie Fielder telling Catherine about Geir, now
they have him

coming their way around the 1st of June. He's a total doll!!

Also Congrats to Project Astride, a therapuetic facility in MN on
their
purchase of Clare, a 15 yr old mare that FCF had on consignment.
Clare was a
team mate with her son, Henry but now has a new and exciting job of
helping

those with handicaps enjoying riding and driving horses.

I have been rather quiet on the list lately as I have been home
recovering
from ACL surgery. I know BIG BUMMER. I came home from our big horse
fair and
just pivoted and out it went. I really need a good story, but that
is all i
did, just turned and out it went. I'm doing really well and am now
able to do
chores(feeding), so I feel a bit more normal. I WILL BE RIDING at
BE, come
hell or high water, I'll be riding! I also hope to do some driving
with my
mare Heather. I am bringing her Thursday to Sara Licht, in Madison
WI to let
her show her at the Columbus Carriage Show in June. Another big
bummer, am
thrilled I found someone available to show her for me, but am bummed
that I am

not the one. Gonna Be LOTS of Fjords there this year!

Congrats again to all you new Fjord owners! ENJOY

Hi all,
I use Fiskars pinking shears (bought at a fabric store) to trim manes. They
are very blunt tipped and have serrated blades. I think I learned about
them on this list. They work well for quick mane trimming, but maybe not
the best for more professional looking cuts. Hope your hand is okay!

I found some blunt tipped scissors ...either seat belt or bandage...that
are sharp enough and

sturdy enough to hack away at a Fjord mane.

Can't some one make us sharp grooming scissors with BLUNT TIPS?

What does the CH stand for?

How much and how often? Do you do anything differently at the beginning of
lactation vs the weaning part?

homoeopathics for huge udder

I mostly use homoeopathic remedies for my horses (and all the other critters
in my household,including people,too)
I have treated painfully swollen udders successfully with Phytolacca CH 12
or CH 3.
That works well for the weaning stage, too.

Friendly Fjord Owners

2008-05-19 Thread Anne Weyker
This message is from: Anne Weyker <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

We have just had the greatest experience in Fjord hospitality! In working out
transport for a Fjord from Linda Forward's barn in west Texas, we were unable
to arrange a door-to-door delivery (to our farm in southeastern Wisconsin) that
could be done in a timely manner and at a price we could afford. Enter Linda's
friend Skye, a regional horse transport lady from Texas, who offered to meet us
halfway.

With Skye leaving from Linda's last Thursday morning and our trailer leaving
home about the same time, we rendezvoused in Claremore, Oklahoma Thursday
evening. That's where the hospitality comes in! We'd found a listing in the
NFHR membership roster for two Fjord farms in Claremore. We heard back promptly
from both of them. The Woodruffs were leaving on a European vacation and
couldn't accommodate an overnight for Sammy, the traveling Fjord. But Trip and
Maria Hannah, Big Valley Fjords, were most gracious in offering us a place to
park a Fjord for the night.

With Sammy resting comfortably in their round pen and daughter Julie and her
traveling companion resting comfortably at a motel, the three of them resumed
the journey Friday morning, arriving safe and sound in early evening. I don't
know if the Hannahs are subscribers to the Digest and have certainly thanked
them privately. But I wanted to let all of you know what a good experience we
had in this situation.

OK, so we went to see the Narnia movie last night and they had some BIG
Friesians (?). What I really noticed though were the really COOL saddles
they were riding in and could just picture them on our Fjords. They look
like a treeless. I whispered to my hubby, "Wow, cool saddles" and he gave
me one of those looks...Yes, too much horse on the brain. Anyone seen the
movie and know what they are?
Oh, and it was a good movie :-)
