I think maybe you have misinterpreted the comments by Carol.   If not, the
tone is not appropriate for the list, even if Carol is not on it.   Sorry, I
do not intend to be confrontational, but this is a public forum and some
civility should reign.  If I have misinterpreted your comments, you have my
sincere apology.  Anyone who knows the Rivoirs, whether they are friend or
not, knows the regard with which that horse was held and the care which was
given any horse in their care.  Most of us wait too late to put a loved animal
down.

My heart, too goes, out to Carole and Arthur at the loss of their great
stallion and friend. Among others, I was lucky enough to meet Gjest during one
of those wonderful BDF driving holidays and he was a teriffic schooling
horse as well as a breed champion. I know Gjest is in a place now where he's
young and strong again and can run across the fields with Tessa all day and
never get tired.
Meanwhile, many of us owe and Carole and Arthur a big thanks for giving
him such a good and productive life on this side of the Atlantic. Because
they did, the beautiful Malcom Locke was born and moved to Ohio where he
sired Brynjar 430-B (my Braveheart pony) who has brought so much fun and love
to my barn for the last 10 years. Braveheart is my
halter/western/English/carriage/CDE/bareback/treasured companion pony...in
other words, the horse of

I read with sadness the post by Carol Rivoire and Gjest. I want to express
my sympathy to the Rivoires during this difficult time and share in their
loss. We had the pleasure of visiting with Gjest over the past yrs many
times and he truly was a class act. What an excellent specimen of the
breed! We own a beautiful 20 yr old mare sired by Gjest by the name of
Gjesther and as well we are proud owners of BDF Yukon also a Gjest son and
our resident stallion...he is sure to follow in his fathers footsteps as a
class act.

The Fjord breed has suffered a great loss.

I don't post much but I would like to say that when I got my fjord
mare a year and a half ago, Carol was the first to extend her hand
and offer advice to me. She was more than gracious and helped to
assure me things would be fine w/me and my girl. I find it so strange
that the person who wrote the book on the breed isn't on this list -
I never knew there had been any disagreements. But, if rules were
broken such as advertising then it seems more people should be banned
from the list.

She certainly wasn't obligated to tell anyone of their decision to
euthanize Gjest. That is the most heartwrenching decision an animal
loving person can make and I am grieving with them. How wonderful his
legacy will live on but their hearts will always be broken.

Carol and postings to the list

2009-09-17 Thread Debby
This message is from: "Debby"

Hi Steve,
I'm sure your sympathy extended to Carol is sincere about the loss of Gjest.
It does bother me that its included in the further comments about why she left
and then stating that she has to make a public statement and specifically what
she has to say, and I think you mentioned that twice. While I'm not sure
that she'd rejoin the list, even if all she had to do was resubscribe,
obviously there are hurt feelings between the two of you...but isn't this
something that one might describe as a being the "bigger" person, to extend
the hand of forgiveness and move forward. The really bad thing about
computers and emails, once you click that "send" button, there isn't any
taking it back. Its out there. I've done it, I'm sure most of us have. I'd
sent something to one person, thinking I was forwarding it to another person,
bashing the person I'd sent it to. Knew it the minute I clicked the send
button. Who hasn't done that, raise your hands. I know its not an excuse,
but, I always go back to the "I'm only human and humans make mistakes". I
tell that to my ponys all of the time.
I miss Carol on the list. I miss the list being active. It doesn't seem so
active anymore. I've seen posts to the list about fjords for sale and tack
for sale. I know you'd made the other link to put "for sale" items, I guess I
don't understand why there had to be the other link. Are many using it? or
visiting it?
Anyway, I know its your list, it just seems a bit harsh to me.

I have two mares for sale.

The first is Stella V, (1999, Lynild I x SF Greta).

This 14 hand mare is fun to ride. She came to us from Nova Scotia as a 6
year old and was used as a school horse at an eventing oriented barn. Stella
enjoys jumping and could be used for trail riding, lower level eventing and
hunter pacing. She can be a bit marish at times around other horses, but is
otherwise a safe horse who likes people. My then, 10 year old daughter, rode
her and liked her. I would like $5,000 for her but would consider lower
offers to the right home.

The second is Los Trigos Zipper, (2003, King Gjestar X Mira).

Born in Santa Fe, this 3' 3" mare has lovely ground manners, loads, clips,
stands and has had some riding training.

Zipper is a special needs mare. She came to me when my aunt died, as a 2
year old. She has been trained by a professional trainer for some time.
Zipper is incredibly sweet but is not a competitive riding prospect. We
think that she would be a lovely, low key driving prospect if she was
trained. There are very few driving opportunities here in Connecticut. I
would like $2,000 for her but would consider lower offers to the right home.

Gjest

2009-09-17 Thread mabogie
This message is from: mabo...@aol.com

Carole had told me that she was putting Gjest about a month ago, but it still
comes as a shock to read it on the list.? Tom and I had the pleasure of
learning to drive Gjest on one of BDF's fabulous driving vacations.? He was
terrific.? All the other horses were mares and at least one of them was in
season during the week we drove.? Gjest was all about the business of driving
and a perfect gentleman.? We left Nova Scotia with a sourvenir of Gjest; we
bought a consignment mare and had her bred to?Gjest.? The result is our
stallion, Ironwood Blitzen, who definitely inherited the good temperatment,
ability to performa and the versatility of his sire.? Blitzen has gone S1,
G1?in Evaluations, he has earned his V and E awards, and he actively competes
in dressage, eventing and driving.?

?

Gjest does not have a HOF designation, although he?has easily achieved this
standard many times over.? I don't know if Carol must apply for it or if NFHR
can provide it for him, but Gjest certainly deserves this recognition.? Gjest
was an important stallion for North American Fjord Horse breeders.? His passing
is a loss to all of us.

Carol Rivoire and the FjordHorse List

2009-09-17 Thread Steve McIlree
This message is from: Steve McIlree

First, let me state that I am much saddened by the passing of a great
Fjord stallion. Gjest has had and will continue to have a major impact
on the Fjord breed in North America. My deepest sympathy goes out to
Carol Rivoire for her loss.

I would like to clear up the idea that Carol is not allowed on the
FjordHorse List. It has been some time since she chose to leave the
List. The problem began after I limited her posting privleges for
repeated violations of standing rules about advertising. Carol then
vehemently complained to the NFHR Board of Directors. Since, as Mike
has stated, the operation of this List has nothing to do with the
Registry, I informed Carol that her posting privileges would be
suspended indefinitely until she sent a message to the List stating
she fully understood that this List was owned and operated as a
private service and had no connection whatsoever with the NFHR. At
that point she chose to unsubscribe from the List. Since then she has
never attempted to resubscribe.

I will state here to that portion of Fjord Horse community represented
on the FjordHorse List that Carol Rivoire is welcome back as a
subscriber any time, so long as she willing to abide by all rules of
the List and will publicly acknowledge that there is no connection
between the List and the NFHR nor any other organization.

2009-09-17 Thread Jill's Computer

This message is from: "Jill's Computer"

I spoke with Carol on the day she put Gjest down. Her anguish was
painful to hear, and her decision was bravely made for the sake of
the horse. If she were selfish, she would have continued to try to
keep him alive, even though he had been obviously failing for at
least three years. They almost lost him last year, but with heroic
effort pulled him through. Carol loved that horse more than some
people love their children, and those of you who have written unkind
things about her care of her horse should be ashamed of yourselves.
If you think it makes you sad to think about the death of this great
and generous stallion, just think about how it makes Carol and Arthur
feel. Many of us have stood in the same place - agonizing over just
when the balance is right, when the best choice for the animal is to
let him or her die with dignity and without pain. I am deeply
grateful to Carol and Arthur for all they have done for the Fjord
breed and for me personally in allowing me to acquire the most
wonderful horses I have ever met.

began like this:

I have received a couple of messages privately now about Carol not being
allowed on the list.

I just want everyone to be reminded that this list in not the NFHR's or my
list. The Fjordhorse list is owned by Steve McIlree & the FjordIssues list is
owned by Fred Pack.

I am merely a member on both of them as all of you are.

Thanks, and again please send your replies to Carol.
