Linnea's colour must be an error, because a brown and a red can't make a
white.

It was an error and has been fixed. She is a Red Dun

I would expect that FC Madellin WOULD have a white dun, or possibly a
yellow when bred to Wynn. Is it possible that this filly is a yellow? >>

Actually, Plain Dealings Linnea isn't a White (Red x Brown will never
gives White, or Yellow for that matter). Based on the lineage she'd most
likely
be either be a Red or a Brown...though Red x Brown can also give Gray (as long
as both parents carry Black...actually Red masks Black so it's possible for
the Red to be homozygous for Black...that'd be quite a genotype!).
The "new" White filly would, of course, be White because of the dam. No
matter how nice a Red stallion is, he'll never be responsible for a White
foal! LoL Anyway, if she truly has black in her tail then she's not a Yellow
(didn't I read she had black in her tail...on the website maybe?).

As A newbie I hope you don't mind me asking. How do you tell the colors as
babies? Are they very distinct?

CONGRATULATIONS Margaret! That is so exciting! How many white Fjords are
there at present, does anyone know offhand? (of course Mike would know,
but maybe too many to count?) ...

No not to any to count. There are 48 registered with the NFHR. 8 of them
are deceased.

We have 65 of them in the database. The ones above the 48 level are in
other horses pedigrees. Most of them are not in the US at all.

CONGRATULATIONS Margaret! That is so exciting! How many white Fjords are

maybe too many to count?) ... seems to me there are precious few.. a very
rare occurence. There was a beautiful white colt at Libby last year and he
sure took my eye. Interesting that you ordinarily have reds... Is OH Wynn a
red dunn, or does he only sire red duns? I have never mastered the Fjord
color theory and probably never will =)). We have a red stud also now
(Magnus), a Hostar boy, and are anxious to see what his offspring shall be
like.. never thought about white though!

Congratulations Margaret That is so exciting, to have a white filly! I
wanted to buy the last white filly that Frank Baylis had but he wouldn't part
with her at the time. Will this filly be for sale later?

I don't know if Curt has ask you yet, but is it ok if he trailers my two Mares,
Kinsey and Arora, to your farm on Sunday so I can pick them up to take them
home after the Festival? I am so looking forward to seeing all the horses.
Curt seems confident that my Mares breed successfully. We breed to both of his
stallions. I am looking forward to having babies next spring. This will be my
first time having babies. I can use all the advise I can get.

I will see you Sunday!!

I'm delighted to announce that FC Madellin had what appears to be a white dun
filly this weekend. I say appears because this filly would break OH Wynn's
streak of siring only red duns. Curt Pierce and I are about 95% sure she is a
white dun at this point.

This filly, along with 13 other Fjords of various ages from Virginia breeders
will be featured at our Foal Festival and Open House on June 12th. A revised
catalog is available on-line my farm website. Feel free to contact the owner
directly if you are interested in a specific horse. The Foal Festival is a
joint marketing effort among Virginia breeders to show off our sale horses and
provide information on the breed to the public. We will be offering demos and
have exhibits on the breed.

I have no idea how many people to expect although the response has been
positive. I'll post a report next week with my observations.
