Hi All, Jord here. You all know this - Mom Rules! The Human Being doesn't
have enough holes in the fence to feed all of us in the same place. So me
& my baby brother, Baar, still haven't little little baby brother since
he left awhile back, anyway, me & Baar eat through one hole & Mom & Geir
& Gandolf eat through another hole in the fence. All of us were hanging by
the water when the Human Being & his new dog. S.E.(hee hee guess what
S.E. stands for) came down & opened the gate. Mom & Geir & Gandolf came
over to go out to the pasture only the Humn Being didn't let us out so
Geir & me started playing like we always do, biting each other on the
butt, climbing on each other, you know.Well Baar joined in biting Geir &
pretty soon Gandolf decided he wanted to play too so he bit Baar on the
butt. Hee, hee, remember I told you the last time Baar bit Gandolf on the
butt & got in trouble for it. Baar might be dumb bit he's not stupid! So
he goes & hangs out with the Human Being & S.E. None of us were paying
any attention to Mom, who was asleep by the gate to the pasture in case
the Human Being opened it.

Yep, you guessed it! We all piled into Mom & woke her up. The dirt was
flying everywhere! Gandolf went to hang out with the Human Being, Baar &
the dog but Geir & me kept on playing but everytime we got close to Mom
we stopped & went back to the top.

Something else that was funny last week was the Human Being forgot to tie
the gate so all of us were hanging out by Baar's & my hole in the fence
so when the Human Being got home it was dark & he told Mom & Geir &
Gandolf to "Go home". All of us went over to their hole in the fence then
the Human Being made Baar go back & he grabbed Geir by the chin & led him
over to my hole in the fence. He thought I was Geir! Since he was over
there he fed Baar & Geir then came over to the hole where I was & gave
Mom her nightly pat on the head. Well, I was standing next to her so I
sniffed the Human Being & then he realized I was Jord & not Geir! Ha, Ha
. Fooled him..

He just left me there & I ate & spent the nite with Mom & Gandolf but I
bugged them too much that nite so the next morning I was afraid to go eat
with them.. The Human Being put me on the bridge in front of the hole in
the fence & told them to leave me alone & went to work. They let me eat
but when the Human being got home from work he put me over with Baar &
put Geir with Mom & Gandolf. Baar doesn't like to play with Geir as much
as I do so they just ate & hung out.

So when Geir & I play we watch out for Mom because MOM RULES!! At least
until the Human Being comes down & hangs out with us. Then he rules.

Hi All, Jord here. Not much happening lately . Just hanging with little
brother Baar. One day my baby brother got in the trailer & haven't seen
him since. Oh, well - just one less face to bite when the human being
feeds us our oil & alfalfa pellets. Man, I have to chew on them forever
but they are goood. Otherwise it's just grass hay. Here's one of those
Arsenio Hall things - how come ALL the good stuff is always at the
bottom of the feeder. I end up nosing some of the stems out of the
feeder to get to the good stuff. Then I can't reach what I threw out. Mom
says "Have you learned anything yet?"

You should see the human being when we drag the pan the pellets come in
out of the feeder & throw it around the corral. NO sense of humor. Baar &
me talked it over & decided we would just play with the 5 gal jug the
oil comes in instead. We have a fetch thing going. We throw the jug over
the fence & when the human being sees it he throws it back. Course he
throws it AT us but it doesn't hurt.

Haven't had the steel thingy in my mouth lately so, life is good. Eat,
sleep, play. Guess Baar doesn't like the human being chasing him cause he
just stands there when he comes in the corral. All the human does is pet
him a little, maybe pick up a foot or mess with his ears. Sometimes I
forget then I get chased around until I stop & let him touch me, Maybe
Baar is just lazy & doesn't want to get chased. He really misses out
cause me & Geir chase each other around alot. Then we rear up at each
other. It's fun. Baar must have got confused cause he bugged Gandolf when
he was sleeping. Man! did he wake up in a hurry. Don't think Baar will be
doing that again anytime soon. What a grump. Maybe he thought Gandolf
was Geir or something.

This is from Brass Ring's Jord.

Hi All, Jord here. Haven't written much lately, still basking in the glory of
being in the Pendleton Round-Up parade with about 1500 other horses, mules &
oxen. It was a piece of cake except we did have to STAND THERE forever before
it started. I got kind of antsy but luckily there were other horses that talked
to me. Mom just slept until the paraed started. I tried to go but mom is to big
for me to move. so we stood there for at least a week, I'm sure. Anyway, it
waas fun when it started. The announcer walked by & asked me what I was which
was nice because Mom told me he has called her a halflinger for the last 5
years.

I did another parade in Aug at the Threshing Bee in Dufur. That one was more
fun because my buddies Gandolf & Geir were there with me & Mom. They didn't
even get mad at me when I stopped to sniff the cone but they did laugh at me
when I leaned against Mom when we went by the black hole Mom called a drain
grate. But the manhole covers didn't bother me & it was fun to see all the
human beings clap when they saw I was doing all the work pulling the barge.
Well I guess I didn't do ALL the work. After the parade Mom & me got put in
the corral & ate & ate. The human being kept on moving it when we ate
everything & the next morning we got turned loose to eat. Well, kind of - I got
hobbles put on me but I still got to eat. Took me forever to go visit the
neighbors with those hobbles on & just as I got there the human being came over
& took me back. Best part about going to the Threshing Bee & Round-Up parade
was my little brothers had to stay home. Nah nah nah na.

Which kind of brings me to the point. My littlest brother, well, half brother,
is going to Hermiston, Oregon this weekend so he can find a new human being to
take care of. His Mom, Blaken, & Aunt Marika are going too. I haven't talked to
them but he is really hoping to find a good human being to take care of. My
human being has enough horses. So, if you need to be adopted by a little one
or a team better come on down to Hermiston. Exit 180 on I-84. It's right on the
freeway, can't miss it. it will be the place with all the horse trailers parked
there. He will be there Fri nite & will be looking for a new human on Sat.

Speaking of human beings, I really like mine. I always know what he wants & he
is pretty patient with me. My buddies, Gandolf & Geir, tell me plowing & all
isn't bad & they remember when they were young like me he let them rest
whenever they got tired. I'll probably miss working next to Mom but I'll get
over it. Mom tells me she wants a new human being to take care of too because
my little brother, Baar, will be TOO MUCH for her next spring & she really
doesn't want to kick him when he bugs her so she will go somewhere else. Know
any human beings that need someone to teach their other horses? Tell them about
Mom, C-1404.

Bye for now.

Thanks for your nice comments. It really is hard to hit the keys as I
have grown. I liked writing when I first hit the ground. The human told
me there was something called archives but I don't know how to look at
them. There is lots of info on what the human made me do when I was
little.

It's funny to watch Baar, my little brother, when the human works with
him. He sure makes things hard on himself. Mom told me Baar was tied to
the back of the wagon in the parade at the threshing bee last year. He
set back on his hinds like he was going to keep that wagon from moving.
Then he had to jump forward so he wouldn't get dragged. What a dummy.
Never, never pull against what you are tied to, lose every time.

Anyway, I really don't have much to say. I am a little depressed that no
one wants to take me or my dad to a new home.

Hi folks. Jord here. Long time no see. Hasn't been much to write about
lately so, I haven't - written, that is.

Anyway, just wanted you to know the gang & I took a vote & decided
some of us would like to greet the New Year somewhere else. To put it
bluntly, we want to be sold. Why? Because, that's why. We like it here
but there is a whole world out there waiting for us to explore.

Now I know how all you folks deplore using numbers so I'll use names.
There's me, Jord, Baar, my little brother( who doesn't have a number
yet), Trygve, & Ivory. We keep our roots in Canada, so you have to
look there for the paperwork.

Oh yeah, some of the details. Baar is the baby. Thinks he is a real
stud because he hasn't had the CHANGE like I have. It really wasn't
bad, you know. He gets in the trailer fine, & yesterday the human
trimmed his feet but forgot to tie him up. Well, Baar just stood there
& took it like a man. The human trimmed my feet too. Didn't tie me up
either. Ha, I left after the first foot was done. BAD mistake!. The
human let me know too - spanked my butt & pointed to the platform. So
I looked at him & said "Oh you want me up there. OK." So I went back
up on the platform. It's logs you know, & kind of hollow sounding. The
noise scared me at first, kind of like going over a bridge. But that
was a long time ago. it doesn't scare me now. So, I stood there & got
the rest of my feet trimmed. I didn't make him tie me. I knew what the
human wanted the first time but hey I'm a kid, have to try, you know.
Anyway, I go in the trailer alone too. Don't bother tieing me, I'd
rather be loose. All ! of us prefer it. I do fine in hobbles & on
picket. I'll go around in a round pen for you, if you want. So will my
brother.

Ivory has been hooked a few times. She will go around the pen for you
too. Loads, good with feet, yada, yada, yada.

Trygve will do pretty much what you ask him to do. He's good with kids
too. Both human & 4 footed.

Anyway, we would like to go somewhere else for the Holidays & beyond.
Write if you're interested. Don't be shy. We are all pretty wooly
right now.

Don't be shy.

Hi All. Jord here. I got the day off yesterday. Mom & Dad had to work.
Dad tried to run the first 2 hours & drug his butt the last 2 hours. Mom
just walked the whole time so she wasn't as tired.

The field they raked wqs across the road & on the way to it some IDIOT
came screaming around the corner in a car. The BIPED just drove right at
him. Boy, was that guy shaking. He drove away REAL slow.

I got to tag along. Don't know why, don't care. I ran & kicked up my
heels. Around & around, back & forth. Then I forgot & CROSSED THE ROAD.
Man, Mom spanked my butt when we got finished. It was so fun to run on a
big field it was worth the spanking. But I see why Mom doesn't want me
crossing the road, there's IDIOTS out there in cars.

Pretty soon I had enough of the running around cause it was hot & just
went next to Mom like I do when I'm tied to her.

Don't know if I have to do anymore mowing & raking for awhile. Guess
Uncle Gandolf & Uncle Geir can handle the rest. They are closer. Mom said
the rest of the hay is on another ranch across the draw.

Hi Folks. Jord here. Boy, am I glad yesterday is over. We cut hay for
about 20 hr! Well, it seemed like 20 hr to me. Started out Ok because the
sickle bar broke, 3 times. So we got tied to the fence while the BIPED
went home & fixed them. Then one stayed fixed. That's when the day from
H__L (not heel here Mom's listening & Finley is 6) started. The big field
wasn't bad. The little parts of the field were TALL & THICK & Dad got in
trouble because he kept on stopping. I learned this, when you stop
pulling, OK so I DON"T have anything to pull, anyway when Mom & Dad stop
the bar stops & plugs up. Then the BIPED gets mad. I tries to tell Dad to
go slow & pace himself but n! Will he listen to me?
nooo! I learned that the first time I was on the mower cause you
don't always quit when all the grass is cut cause there are other fields
to do. So Dad got real tired! I did too. Boy, am I glad it got dark
because then we had to stop. I got in trouble too cause I got in front of
Mom & Dad. So I got my nose put on Mom's hame. Man, the BIPED tied me
short. Guess I won't get in the way again. DON"T laugh! See how you feel
after working 20 hr. Anyway it seemed like 20 hr to me.

Ok , I'll fess up, so no one calls the SPCA doesn't come knocking. We
started at 4pm & stopped at 9:30. The BIPED was fixing things for 1 1/2
hr.

Oh, dry up. Remember, I'll be 2 mo old June 21.

Finley keeps on trying to feed me those carrot things. Her Mom bopped Dad
on the nose with one when he tried to take Mom's away. That was funny.
Me, I think I'll stick to milk & grass.

Thanks, Finley for writing this for me, & thanks to the BIPED for typing
it so all of you can keep tabs on me.

Hi Folks, I dictated this to Sara, again, because Mom & Dad & I are still
at her house & as we all know, I can't cross the road, yet. Well, another
day at the salt mines. This time it was raking the hay we cut 2 days ago.
Ho hum. Piece of cake. Only problem was I was a little slow on the "haw".
And you know, Mom kept on pushing me out of the way until I GOT IT. Had
lots of practice as we turned "haw" almost all the time.

Since it was Sunday, there were lots of SUNDAY DRIVERS out. They all
slowed down to look. Sheesh, you would think they never saw anyone raking
hay before. Guess I showed them that I'm big enough to do this. Well, I
really don't have to pull much, but I can keep up & I'm getting the steps
down. You know, the little shuffle with the feet on the turns, The stand
there, with no fidgeting, when we take a blow, not starting until the
BIPED says GO. When it's MY turn to pull the load, I'll have it down, And
you know what, The noise from the mower & rake doesn't even scare me! How
about that? It's RIGHT behind me & I don't even care. I can see it &
everything.

At least we didn't have to pull the baler, yet, anyway. Mom says we need
Uncle Gandolf & Uncle Geir for that. Mom says I'll have to be tied to Dad
when we do that because, as she says"boys will be stupid", & Dad doesn't
like Uncle Gandolf or Uncle Geir, so she has to be in between the Dad &

When we do that, maybe I'll chew on Dad's cheek, like I do to Mom - keep

This is dictated to Sara by Brass Ring's Jord.

Hi folks. Found a way to get around not being allowed to cross the road.
Sara is one of the girls that lives where me & Mom & Dad are. Sara gave
this to the BIPED after we were done working yesterday. Yes, WORKING! I
mowed hay yesterday! Anyway I went along for the walk. Mom & Dad got
hooked to the mower & they were going to leave me tied to the trailer but
I pitched a fit. BAD move. BAD move.

So, the BIPED tied me to Mom & off we went. I should have just stood
there, tied to the trailer but NO, I had to have a hissy fit. Did I learn
anything?

First, we went out on the road to get to the field. Well, I just kind of
moseyed along until this THING hit me on the legs a few times. Mom said
it was a singletree & I better keep up. So I did, for a little while.
Then it hit me again so I kept up after that. The BIPED helped me, he
tied the rope shorter so I had to go when he asked Mom & Dad to go.

And go we did! Around & around. Some of the hay was over Mom & Dad's head
so I couldn't even see. We were just going right thru it! Now I know what
ants feel like.

Anyway, we made one round, Mom said we were opening up the field, then
turned around & went the other way. The other way was easier because I
couldn't see & Mom kept on telling me "turn left".When I didn't turn fast
enough she pushed me left. I couldn't see anything, the grass was too
tall. Then we were walking on the grass that was already cut. That was
alot easier. We turned right , gee.

So we went around, & around, & around, & around. It was fun at first but
after awhile I wished I'd kept my mouth shut when they left me at the
trailer.

Pretty soon Aunt Wanda came to visit. I got untied from Mom & got a
break. I pitched a fit for a minute then decided it was OK to stand &
watch cause I was getting kind of tired. We got rest breaks, but I still
got tired.

Then we were done. Back to the trailer, harness off Mom & Dad, then off
to the water trough for a bath. Man, that felt good! Well, Mom says we
will rake the hay, whatever that is, soon. Maybe I'll just keep my mouth
shut this time. But I'm only 6 weeks old so I'll probably forget, & pitch
a fit, & go rake hay with Mom & Dad.

Bye

Jord

P.S. I want to thank Sara for writing this down for me. Even if I were
allowed to cross the road it's a long way to home from Sara's house.

Jord here. Did my first parade. Memorial Day parade in Mosier OR. Well,
it doesn't have 500 horses in it , like the Pendleton Round-Up parade,
but it was exciting to me. We went as the family unit cause Dad's back.
Guess the biped wasn't interested in giving him away at that auction he
was at. Dad said it was kind of exciting, he was hooked in shafts for the
first time there. But the biped wouldn't let him visit with any of the
horses. Dad said it was kind of frustrating cause he was being led around
by the foot but the rope was too always too short when he tried to go
visit any horse.

Well, back to the parade. Mom & Dad got ridden by bipeds & I was on a
rope next to Mom. Piece of cake.
It was fun too. Everybody thought I was s cute. Boy, I get tired of
hearing that. Puppies are cute. I'm handsome. We lined up so folks could
take pictures.

While Dad was gone I was on some flat ground with Mom. Think I like the
steep ground better. As the biped says it builds strong legs, & teaches
me balance. I did have fun on the flat ground. Ran back & forth, back &
forth. After doing that on the steep the flat was easy.

You know, the halter thing is easy now too. When the bipeds put it on, I
just stand there, just like Mom & Dad do.

Found out I have a half sister as of today. Haven't seen her yet. She
lives near Hood River.

Chasing Mom all over the place. She doesn't run away much now. A few days
ago Dad went walking behind me & I tried that both hind feet kick thing &
I connected! Must not have impressed him much though - he didn't even
look at me.

2 days ago we got moved to another hillside with new grass in it. Boy, is
it tasty. Speaking of tasty, the pellet, oil, & 12-12 stuff isn't bad.
Been eating some of Mom's lately. The HUMANS are still real touchy feely
- rubbing me ALL over, picking up my feet, you know the usual. I don't
even try to get away now. There's a place by my tail they scratch that
REALLY feels s nice I start chewing on Mom when they scratch me
there. Tried to groom them back but got my mouth slapped. Guess they
just don't like it. It's OK for me to pooch out my upper lip when they
hit a good spot but now i know not to chew on them. Some humans just
don't a good thing when it's offered.

Anyway, Mom says Dad is leaving us Thursday. Going to the auction,
looking for a new home. She says Uncle Gandolf will babysit me when THE
TIME comes. I don't have a clue what THE TIME is, but no worries, mate.

So, Ive been on the ground for about a month now. Mom says I'm buffed out
- flat belly & hard butt. I think it's from running up & down the hill.
Flat ground? What's that? I'll take these hillsides any time. The trees
make a really neat slalom course.

Well gotta go. Mom's calling.

Hi,
Had fun yesterday. Mom said Dad finally GOT IT so he could come on a
picnic with us. Guess putting him in the other corral by himself for a
few hours made him cool his jets. We all went into this big woodlot & you
know the best part? It had some really yummy barley way up this road
we followed. Then we went further up the road & there was even more
barley. Man, it was good. Then we went up again & there was grass
that was really good too. We even got to camp out but Mom said horses
don't have campfires.
It was really neat.

Then the man came & made us go into this corral. We hung out there awhile
then he came back & put those halter things on Mom & Dad but I didn't
have to get one on me. He tied Mom & Dad up. Mom said it was a hitching
post. Then he caught me & put one of those halter things on me too & tied
the end on the hitching thing, I forgot what it was called. Well, I
pulled & pulled until Mom gave me THE LOOK so I quit. That pulling is
alot of work, guess I should be like Dad & take it like a man. You know,
He's not such a bad guy when he's not getting kicked by Mom.

Then he & Mom got this harness stuff put on them. I thought Sundays were
a day of rest? Then I got tied to Mom & we went to get this stoneboat
thing. I pulled against Mom but it didn't do any good. I really tried to
stop them but they are bigger than me, so I went along. That thing made
alot of noise behind us but they didn't care so I didn't care. We went
into the garden & got some BIG rocks to put on it. I heard this "Gee" &
"Haw" stuff but I didn't get it & almost got run over when they turned.
Mom said "Gee, that's right ". Still didn't understand. Hey, I'm only 2
weeks old you know ! Lucky for me they didn't get too mad at me when I
ended up in front of Dad. Wanda rescued me! But she tied me to a post & I
kicked her & she kicked me back. H , guess I won't try that anymore.
So I hung out & watched then haul rocks then pull, Mom said, a disc, then
a harrow. Then I got tied on Mom again & I was better this time. Didn't
get in the way this time. Stayed right next to Mom. Gee, that's right.
Haw, means left. Whoa means stop. Back means, well, I think you can
figure that out.

Then we got tied to the hitch thing again then we got a bath, B, that
was kind of cold. Mom & Dad liked it
Then I got dried off, & turned out. Mom & Dad ate but I ran circles
around them , Yahoo! Up the hill, down the hill Up down up down. It was
fun. They just looked at me.

You know those BIPEDS aren't all that bad, I learn as much from them as I
do Mom & Dad. Biggest rule, Mom said, is they are the boss, NO
EXCEPTIONS. Mom & Dad made that very clear to me.

You know, this life on the ground is way more fun than just being carried
all over in the dark. And Dad's OK too.

Well, bedtime. I got kind of tired today but is was fun. Hope I get to go
to work more with the 'rents.

Bye

Great story about the foals intro to his dad, halter and the trailer. For a
moment there I thought he and his mom were going down the road. Good
insight re halter as to how a young horse sees his world. Won't a fractious
stallion possibly injure a young foal? Jean

Well.. haven't posted lately. This typing thing is still kind of
hard. Been hanging out with mom, on the hillside. You know, just running
around, eating a little grass, drinking milk whenever. The bipeds have
been at it again. This young one, I think you bipeds call them teenagers,
tried to put a halter on me. Ha! that was easy - just kept Mom between me
& her. Then that really bothersome one, you know, the one that messes
with my feet, ears, rubs me ALL over, got in the act. Well, to make a
long story short I was busted! He put some kind of thing on my nose &
behind my ears. Man did I pull back! Didn't do any good. Then I quit
pulling back & the pressure behind my ears quit. Guess that's all he
wanted. Not rocket science. Then he asked me to follow him. I thought "
Why you son of a ", whoops, Mom heard that. Well maybe this
following crap is better than a spanking. So, off I went. Besides Mom was
on a rope behind that girl, so I followed. Piece of cake.

We went up a hill & stopped by this metal thing( mom said it was a
"car"). There was this really nice old lady in it. She held a hand out &
said how cute I was. So I went over there & she wanted to touch me. Man,
these humans can't keep their hands to themselves. Then Mom & I got to
eat some REALLY good green grass. Pretty soon the girl put Mom in a
really big box. Looked easy so I went in too. Mom said it was a "trailer"
& nothing to stress over. So we went in & out about a million times. Must
be a BIPED thing, I don't know.

Today a really noisy, squeally horse came in here with Mom & me . He
chases her ALL over. Man she is really kicking him hard. He is either
REALLY stupid or he likes to get kicked. Mom told me he was my dad.
She said he would only be here for a few weeks then he was going to an
auction, whatever that is. He hasn't even said hi to me, all he does is
chase Mom around. Wow, he can really take a hit!

Well, Mom's calling me. Gotta go.

Hey, this isn't bad. I've been out 3 days now. Not too warm, not too
cold. Just hanging with mom on the hillside, chasing bugs, dogs, you
know, the usual. Got all I can eat, sleep when I want, run around when I
want.

Only complaint is the BIPEDS. They are constantly messing with my feet,
leading me around, rubbing my ears. How would they like it if I was
always picking up THEIR feet & rubbing their ears. I do have to admit
there's one spot on my butt they scratch that really feels nice.

In any case it's really hard for me to fit my hooves on these small keys
so I'm going out for a snack.

Bye,
