Portable Corral
This message is from: "Carol Tacey" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> We travel and camp with our LQ trailer and 2 Fjords all summer. I use a portable electric fence. Works great if you double string it. Two lines keeps the horses from ducking under. The best plastic poles are the "sturip step in", they go up easy and fast. 4 foot poles the best. I use a charger that runs on 4 "D" size batters, does the job and is light weight. I bought a extra big (golf club size) canvas bag with a zipper that holds the whole set up, poles, charger, wire (on a hand crank roller). Then of course, I let my husband, Tony, set it all up. Two adults setting up a portable fence is like a married couple in a canoe for 3 days . The fight is on! So, I sit in the lawn chair and tell Tony, "Your doing a great job". The fence goes up in a flash. Carol Tacey Totem Farm 319 Waites Corner Rd West Kingston, RI 02892 401-789-2062 www.painteasy.com The FjordHorse List archives can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/rcepw

This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] not to seem like i work for them (i don't), but after i posted the premier one link i was still wandering around their site and they have a portable corral that runs off a lantern style battery for 2 weeks. description says you can put up a 80 foot with a single strand of the included tape or 40 foot with two strands. if you go under horse supplies, down the left side is a menu and "horse corral" is listed..they are about $180. laurie ** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. This message is from: "Cherie Mascis" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Grazier makes a portable corral tht I have put my Fjord and Icelandic in at the same time. It's electric, but so sturdy I often use it without eletrifying. It sets up easily and it is much sturdier than most portable electric fences. When not camping you can make a round pen or use it to portion off pasture areas. I love mine. Email me for more info. Cherie The FjordHorse List archives can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/rcepw

This message is from: "Larry Goss" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> You had better use stout ones. I have a bunch of diamond metal panels with 5 rails and most of them are bowed from my fjord reaching through on a consistent basis. This message is from: Silja Knoll <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi Lola, I found that a good quality grazing muzzle has been pretty successful in at least slowing my fjord down when she has access to grass. I hesitate to put her in anything that isn't electrified. They make portable corrals with hot wire that run on a car battery. You might be able to find them in horse supply catalogs. They are fairly affordable. Good luck, sounds like a great trip! Silja Lola Lahr <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: This message is from: "Lola Lahr" Hi List! I was wondering if anyone out there has had experience with portable corrals/fjords? I need to make a decision soon about how I will contain my grass-greedy not so little mare on a week-long large group ride that includes camping for a few nights. Any suggestions?? Re: Portable Corral
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] One of the neatest portable corral ideas I ever saw was made of those nylon web ratchet-style tie-downs, customized with extra long lengths of web. They just looped them around 4 or 5 trees that made a decent size corral, leaving a gap between two of the trees, hooked the ends around the tree and back to itself and tightened them up at whatever level was needed. Then used shorter ones for the "gate" gap. The guy who had it used two strands and it seemed to work like a charm. Did not leave any damage on the trees either.
