Re: Fjord in Magazine Ad
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] The Fjord that you see used in various advertisements is my Fjord gelding Rollo (Knut X Rachael). I took the photo some years ago and used a neighbor's child as a model. I submitted the photo along with some others to the Farnam Company that had a "horse model search" going on and were looking for a photo for their advertisements. The photo of Rollo was picked out of 5,000 submissions so I was very pleased that it got picked. Rollo is a delight. He has a beautiful face and is quite photogenic. I preferred a photo of him with his eyes open, but the company liked the other one. Rollo has appeared in ads for fly sprays, wormers and on calendars. He is also in the book, Dressage by the Letter in a chapter on other breeds, other than warmbloods doing dressage. Rollo is a wonderful driving horse and stablemate to my other Fjord, BDF Idar. Re: fjord in magazine ad
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Well, Elaine, it is a darling picture and I plan to put it in a frame and hang in my barn. Yes, he does look like a total sweetheart. Speaking of "darlings" :) ...my daughter, Anne, and I are sure enjoying our little "Hasse"!! He calls to us with the sweetest whinny, he is doing pretty well with our imprinting type sessions (wish I had an in-house, experienced imprinter -- we are as green as little "Hasse") and he is getting his teeth:) Hope to have pictures on our website soon - Linda in Corcoran, MN
Re: fjord in magazine ad
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] The Fjord in the Farnam advertisement for Bit Free Fly Spray is my horse, Rollo. I took the photo several years ago and it was originally on the cover of a calendar for the Ivermectin product. The company was not specifically looking for a Fjord, but they choose this photo from 5000 entries of other horse photos. Rollo is a 14.1, 10 year old gelding by Knut out of Rachael and was bred in California. He is a wonderful driving horse and a joy to own. Elaine Olsen

I don't think the text mentions a breed or species -- I was just going by the cover art which is clearly Taki. Too bad the Fjord footage was not used in the movie! Re: fjord in magazine ad
This message is from: Jean Ernest <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Well, you both may be right/wrongThe Unrau Fjords were used in filming of "Clan of the Cave Bear" but the footage was never used. As for what early horse ancestor Whinny and Racer represent, it probably isn't the Taki, but "Equus caballus mosbachensis" or what Dr. deb Bennett calls the Warmblood lineage: "By one million years ago, the Warmblood subspecies - oldest and most primitive form of the species which we would someday know as the domestic horse - was already well established in central Europe. From this heartland, the horses spread outward, changing in form generation by generation as they encountered habitat differences at the periphery of their range." The Taki or Przewalski was a later offshoot. However, the picture on the book cover of "Valley of Horses" certainly looks like a Taki. my old gelding, Bjarne, was in that bunch of Fjords that were filmed. Too bad that footage as well as all of the really good Fjord footage from "Thirteenth Warrior" will never be seen! Jean in hot and smokey Fairbanks, Alaska, with a big fire down the road near the Chena Hot Springs resort. 85 degrees today again!
