Hi Carol- You must have the World's Thinnest Fjord ;-). The Bob Marshall is what I've used for years and love it. It's very secure for trail riding. I recommend using the Skito pad which is custom-made to fit the shape of the saddle and horse (in other words, it's not just a big square like traditional pads) and has a space down the middle to keep pressure off the spine. Western saddle for fjords?
This message is from: Carol Trujillo [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello all, As a new fjord owner, I've enjoyed the fjord digest and learning more about fjords. My Henrik is a 9-year-old green-broke gelding who is in boot camp at the moment, getting brakes and steering for trail riding. We might take advantage of the amnesty registration program. Looks like he could have been registered with the Canadian registry but the previous two owners didn't fill out the paperwork because he's just a gelding. (His dam was Mid's Nissa and his sire was Half Diamond's Lun.) Does anyone have recommendations for a fjord-friendly, comfortable western saddle? His trainer is using an older, heavy, full-quarter tree and a short skirt, which seems to stay in place well. His previous owner used a Circle Y flex tree. And I have a Bob Marshall treeless saddle that seems a bit wide for him (with a narrow pad.) Henrik is only the second fjord I'd ever seen. I was hooked at first sight. He is something of a standout in the neighborhood -- chock full of Quarter Horses, Paints, dark Warmbloods, and Arabs -- with folks asking if he's part zebra because of his striped legs and mohawk do! This message is from: Gail Russell [EMAIL PROTECTED] I bought an older Orthoflex barrel saddle on e-bay that I love. It is comfortable to sit in, and acts almost like an Aussie saddle in how it holds you in. It never seems to slip sideways or forward or back. Laser saddle (for fjords) update
This message is from: Karen McCarthy [EMAIL PROTECTED] For those who are interested in saddle fitting a dressage saddle to a fjord, I found that the used Laser saddle i had on trial works, and is a keeper! The horses didn't complain, and my butt sure didn't either - it was very comfortable and allowed a really colse leg contact, something my Hubertus 38cm all purpose saddle doesn't excell in too well. I rode my WB and 2 fjords w/ it yesterday, and today i rode in 2 dressage lessons w/ it, (on 2 different horses, 1/2 sibs Idelle + Imilie). It was really fun doing some serious riding again, and the horses really pleased me alot as we rode in an alien indoor barn, and neither of them had any indoor experience. (Of couse) they were stars! We did a semi private lesson first, and then I did a group lesson on Idelle, and we were singled out numerous times to show correct examples of shoulder-in and half pass, stuff we don't really practice alot, and yes my muscles were KILLING me, but it was very gratifying to know a) I had trained my horses to be able to listen ride comfortbly and corectly in a strange place, and b) that I hadn't totally lost' it after oh, I'd say about 3 years w/o a proper lesson. So, the Laser saddle works for moi, add it to the list! Kmac Karen McCarthyGreat Basin Fjords :: Carson City, Nevadahttp://www.picturetrail.com/weegees

This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] I use a basic Pessoa CC saddle with a regular tree on Torden and it fits him beautifully, and it's *so* comfortable! Of course each Fjord is different, as nicely as the Pessoa fits Torden, it didn't fit either of the other Fjords I tested it on. Jamie In the Mountains SW of Denver, CO

I have a Wintec 2000 model that I bought for Baldur. I got the wide tree model. It fits great, this model I believe is the only one that the inserts are being made for (per the Stateline Catalog) I got the wide tree so I could get the inserts for smaller trees later on. BTW the inserts do not go inside the saddle. They actually fit against the gullet somehow. I do love the saddle though. It's heaven to ride in. Thank you Storme Nancy Newport wrote: This message is from: Nancy Newport [EMAIL PROTECTED] We ended up getting a 15 wide tree Wintec 500 all purpose with the extra wide gullet insert (they also have a special Haflinger insert that's wider, but to put it in they void the warranty as they have to manipulate the saddle too much). We also have a beta biothane breast plate and crupper - and let me tell you that saddle doesn't move! It fits rolly polly, I mean Pauline, really well and is a great size for our 6 year old daughter. Don't get me wrong, Pauline is not that fat (she goes to jail regularly in the round pen for dieting), but with her broad Fjord back and not so pronounced withers, normal saddles slip.

This message is from: Storme Lee [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello Nancy~~ I am having some problems with my rolly polly..I mean Jordan. Where did you get your saddle? Did you have to special order? How much was it? I am thinking of changing my saddle for Jordan, he seems bothered by the one that I have now...I am wanting the synthetic saddle with the endurance seat...no horn, just the ridge going acrossso I am looking for something to fit his frame, and mine I might add. I need a 16 to 17 seat western, and he needs a bigger tree and gear. Let me know. Thanks Storme Leefrom Seattle WA Nancy Newport wrote: This message is from: Nancy Newport [EMAIL PROTECTED] Many thanks to those who responded to my question a couple of months ago re: finding a synthetic saddle for a child and her round Fjord.
