[Flashcoders] Window Component doesn't close

2006-03-28 Thread Lieven Cardoen
I have a window component that doesn't close. It does trigger the
click-event, but hintWindow.deletePopUp() or evt.target.deletePopUp()
doesn't seem to have any effect.

Inside the window component is a mediaplayback component, which works
fine.

How do I get rid of this popup

I agree, the swf studio support is just phenomenal. I have been using
swf studio for over two years now and I never had any issues. It's just
a great wrapper, which offers a lot of features. The pricing is very
reasonable as well. It's not cross platform though.

Re: [Flashcoders] If not Zinc, then what?

2006-03-28 Thread André Nachtigall Tessmann
Hello,

I`ll start with the development of a big application next week, and we
need to use these projectors. I`ll be a commercial product, so i think
that it`s very important that i take the right way on the beginning.

What you thing guys, should i develop it that i can easily change
between projectors? Or it`s better run away from them and develop the
tool using C# or something like that? I never had problems with ZINC
or SW till today, but now i have a really big project so i`m a bit
afraid! These projectors are relly stable? Because i only build
some small demo applications in-house, not for commercial use. Success
testimonials are welcome! :-)

Andre Nachtigall Tessmann

Yeah I have to say, I've been using zinc for xray's wrapper and they were

RE: RE: [Flashcoders] non breaking space in html textfield, Flash MX 2004

2006-03-28 Thread Ian Wood
Hi,

I've been pulling my hair out over this one too, and I eventually found
a solution (too late for the project I was working on, but good enough
for the next one!).

The problem is to get Flash to embed the font outline for the non
breaking space.

There is a file called :

C:\Documents and Settings\ian\Local Settings\Application
Data\Macromedia\Flash 8\en\Configuration\FontEmbedding\UnicodeTable.xml

That contains all the "presets" in the embed window for a text field.

In the glyphRange for Latin I, I did this:

  -  here I changed A1 to A0 so it
includes A0 - the unicode for a non-breaking space.

...

and to be sure, I added a new glyphRange at the end :

and selected this one in the text field too embedded font outlines popup
too.

It seems to work fine.

Re: [Flashcoders] If not Zinc, then what?

2006-03-28 Thread Grant Cox
We just did our first application with a projector app like this.
Thankfully the target was only for Windows 2000 and XP, but it needed to
support nice transparency with non-rectangular windows.

First I gave Screenweaver OS a go, but it has some major bugs, and
almost no development (well, not on the version 3, apparently they are
working hard on the beta version 4). After a couple of days we decided
that we needed an application that could provide support.

We looked at them all, and decided on Zinc, as it seemed to have the
most active forums and developers (ie they respond to bug reports
quickly), it was cross platform (thinking about future projects), and
had a lot of features. Unfortunately we found that CPU usage was
extreme - with an application approximately 800x600 it would use 65% of
a 3.0GHz cpu just sitting there, and 100% cpu when there was any
animation inside the window. This is due to the transparency - it was
much better with a regular rectangular window.

As our client found this unacceptable we moved to mProjector (at their
recommendation). We found mProjector to make the smallest file size,
and have the best CPU usage. Unfortunately their support is much slower
- the forums are much less busy and the devs will take some days to
respond to emails. They were in the process of releasing their new
version at this time, so this may explain it (they are a much smaller
operation than Zinc). Unfortunately we found there was a bug that would
cause the application to crash sporadically (when loading external
movies/data), and some two months after reporting this as a bug it was
still on their "todo" list. Also transparency was fine in the Flash 7
build, but in Flash 8 was very patchy (I believe this has been fixed since).

So, we had to move to Northcode SWF Studio. This was our last option,
as we couldn't find any other Projector applications that had
synchronous commands (and switching to asynchronous would be far too
much work this late in the project). Northcode has fairly quiet forums,
but their devs replied to every post at least once a day, and responded
to emails within a day (with the timezone difference from Aus to Canada
I thought that was pretty good). The downside is that their
transparency support was fairly poor - the only reliable method for
non-rectangular windows was to have 1bit transparency. They did provide
me with a pre-release version with better transparency (which I believe
has been released now), however this did have pretty much the same CPU
issue as Zinc.

So, overall:
- Northcode (which we ended up going with) had the best support and
least bugs. But did make the largest filesize.
- Zinc has the most features, and the CPU issue appeared to just be
Flash 8 - all three had ver poor CPU usage when using nice transparency
in Flash 8.  Medium filesize
- mProjector had the smallest filesize, and with Flash 7 had the best
CPU performance. The app/libraries had the least features (ie no cross
platform, no screensavers, no support for standard rectangular windows).

And at the end of it all, I have vowed to avoid working on any Projector
applications like this again. They all seem like patchy solutions, and
I guess that's why Macromedia never added more than basic fscommands to
the standard Flash projectors.

Regards,
Grant Cox

It's a little old now, but is a good starting point.

It probably IS the best, but if cross-platform is important, then it
isn't in the competition yet. Will be great when it is.

Cross-platform? Zinc is pretty much the most powerful wrapper for
Windows. The problem with Zinc is mostly the Mac version, which is
pretty weak comparatively, and kinda buggy. mProjector for Mac seems

Zinc. "The workaround wonder." More workarounds have been developed
for Zinc than any tool I've ever seen. It can do almost anything, and
without crashing, as long as you don't mind the workarounds.

Flash Magazine did a comparison of projectors.

It's a little old now, but is a good starting point.

To respecfully debate the issue...

All the examples you listed are all self aware events not broadcast level
events. Broadcasting so that other components can respond is pointless for
enter/leave events

RE: [Flashcoders] Using onRollOver and onRollOut inside a Class File??

2006-03-28 Thread Mike Anderson
Hello All - thanks for the interesting input.

For those who DO want to enable the RollOver and RollOut functionality,
I did finally get it working - and all using code that already existed
within the SimpleButton.as file.

If you open up the file, and scroll way to the bottom, there are in fact
"onRollOver" and "onRollOut" functions defined - but only for the
purpose of broadcasting the signal to turn the Halo Effect on and off
when hovering the mouse over.

All I added was the actual lines of code to "DispatchEvent". What I
overlooked first time around, was that I had "buttonRollOver" and
"buttonRollOut" in order to stay consistent with the other functions
within the Class File. So after I changed the code in MY Class File
containing the Button reference, to broadcast "buttonRollOver" and
"buttonRollOut", it started to magically work.

So, that's all you gotta do - is add two lines of code (one for each
function) in the SimpleButton.as file, and you are good to go!!

Thanks again for your help on this -

Mike

It's not really up to the component developer to decide what may or may
not be done with any control. Of course there are limits to this, but I
would expect that with any visual component a roll over event is a
reasonable thing to expect. Swing (MouseMoveListener), Cocoa (tracking
rects), and the .NET framework (the MouseEnter event) all have support
for this functionality.

I'm not coming down on V2. It's a basic framework for basic needs...I'm

[Flashcoders] Is there a way to retrieve the order of a given item in my dataset?

2006-03-28 Thread Manuel Saint-Victor
It would seem that would be something easy to obtain - I want to find out
the current index of the selected item in my DataSet. I checked the ID
property and it's not a regular index like an array. Do I have to go
through actually dumping the content into an Array or is there an easier
way. Since the inheritance of the Dataset is from MovieClip I can't just
call one of it's parent class methods. Any suggestions on how this is
done? I'm thinking I might end up having to decorate it with an indexing
method but that that seems like a lot for a feature that I'm probably just
not aware of how to access.

What language are your web services written in (ASP.Net, PHP, Perl, ...)?
Does the webserver you are trying to run them on support that scripting

Hmmm. I would tend to disagree with that. I think for the same reasons
you would want a custom-made button to broadcast it. Even with standard
UI buttons, I can think of uses for onPress, onReleaseOutside,
onRollOver, etc. What would make an mx button any different?

Imagine a fast-forward button for an animation which you hold down to
activate, and then release to deactivate. I mean, there are a million
uses IMO.

I think if I were to venture a guess, the real reason is what Mike was
suggesting: Macromedia chose the lowest common denominator, redundant
code, simplicity, etc. Unless there ARE ways to broadcast these other
events from MX UI buttons, which I don't know about.

Yes, definately using .nodeValue to get at the value. What I did not say is
that I am outputting to htmlText in order to format with CSS. Even when not
using CSS to format, just outputting the text straight with no CSS
formatting, no go. The problem doesn't seem to occur when you're using
something like yourtextfield.text. Many thanks for the previous reply.

Re: [Flashcoders] Architecture opinion...

2006-03-28 Thread elibol
To answer having switch statements and if/else statements galore, options
behaviors that're determined by other options being active or inactive
should be combined into a single option. This should account to a collection
of options absolutey decoupled from one another. If this is already the
case, being, all options do not depend on each others states to enforce
their behaviors, then I have a suggestion that should lend itself to bit
switches.

Each option should be a class of its own, taking the current pages clip as
an argument to a decorative function which would design the options behavior
into the page.

The application would sequence as so:

The options would be set and stored in an array, the order should not matter
since the options are decoupled from each other. When a new page is
navigated to, the navigator would pass the page to a function which would
propogate the page to a common function which each option would use to take
and identify the page to be decorated with that options behavior. All
options could extend, or be composed with, a base option class which would
account for the common functionality each option would share, such as
decorating pages.

The idea is to swap the conditions from the pages logic over to the options
logic, you could take from the idea of this and maintain the conditions
driven by the options if there are less options than pages.

In a rough outline in code, it might resemble this:

Class OptionBase {

var pageA:Function; //to be defined in extending class

function OptionBase(){
}

function decoratePage(page:MovieClip, pageID:String){
switch(pageID){
case 'pageA': pageA(page); break;
}

}

//...
}

Class OptionA extends OptionBase {
//...
function pageA(pageA:MovieClip){
//mangle pageA in every which way.
}
//...
}

There might be a manager class that does managerial things.

Good luck,

M

Re: [Flashcoders] Using onRollOver and onRollOut inside a Class File??

2006-03-28 Thread Charles Parcell
My question to you would be, why would you expect a button to broadcast that
it being rolled over? There is no standard UI reason for it. The only real
action that a standard button is good for is clicking.

Re: [Flashcoders] Architecture opinion...

2006-03-28 Thread Eric E. Dolecki

Thanks about the bitwise stuff...

thing is this app is kinda like a PPT - except I have 7 config states
that need checked every step. So the "next" depends on the config
state... i guess I'll just need to get the bitwise number and then
check that against some function that returns t/f or something... at
each step. If you saw the flow diagram for this application, your jaw
would drop.

I'm wondering if up front I detect the config combination, and then
load a sep SWF or MC for each of those states to proceed. That way I
wouldn't need to check all the time along the way... hmmm

7 configs = 49 possible combinations. Nasty ;/

Re: [Flashcoders] 8.5 player and javascript

2006-03-28 Thread David Rorex
What would be useful is if someone took one of the existion Flash <--> JS
communication kits, which works w/ 6 & 7, and then modified the API, such
that it matched exactly the ExternalInterface of 8 & 8.5.
This way, you could write the same code which compiled for all versions.
Only if you were going to 6 or 7, you would just include the extra class
file.

RE: [Flashcoders] Makin a Game

2006-03-28 Thread Adrian Lynch
You'll need to know when the game is complete. How you do that depends on
how you've built the game so far.

You have a number of things to drag in to place, say 10, each time one of
those things has been put in position, increment a counter. When that
counter is the same as the number of things you have, the game is complete.
That's about as easy as it gets. Though I'm sure they'll be other things to
complicate it some more.

I need to know, how to go about it? (Do I need to assign some variables
to different pieces in the game, and call them at the end of it???)

Any help would be appreciated?

RE: [Flashcoders] Using onRollOver and onRollOut inside a Class File??

2006-03-28 Thread Mike Anderson
Hello Michael - thanks for the reply -

I guess my real question is, why isn't "onRollOver" and "onRollOut"
natively part of the Events that the Button Components can broadcast?

In the help docs, there is only 1 mentioned Event - which is "click" -

It just seems odd, that I have to use one method of adding an Event
Listener for Click, and a totally different type of "Add Event Listener"
method for adding other types of events.

Do you know why that is?

Is it for the purpose of not reinventing the wheel, and borrowing events
that already exist in other components, and applying it to others? I
know that all the components in Flash are reduced to their lowest common
denominators - and that they import their core functions from other core
classes - again, for the purpose of not having any redundant code & not
reinventing the wheel.

Thanks for your help on this, and to help me further understand how this
all works.

Mike :)

[Flashcoders] Automated extracting screenshots from .swf's

2006-03-28 Thread David Rorex
Hi,

I am looking for an automated way in which I can automatically extract
frames from a .swf into a bitmap image (.jpg, .bmp, whatever). My ideal
program would work like this:

swf2jpg.exe --input myMovie.swf --frame 2 --output myMovie_F2.jpg

And then it would extract frame 2 from myMovie.swf into a jpg. I am
interested in anything that can convert a swf into bitmaped images, but I
really need something that can be automated (run without human interaction).

Thanks,

Hello All,

The component in this particular instance, is the Push Button. When
reading the documentation, the only "events" that are mentioned is the
"click" event. To my knowledge, when using a Class File attached to a
MovieClip containing a Push Button component, there is only one
type of

syntax that can be used for adding listeners.

For example:

myButton.addEventListener( "click", myButton_Click );

And you usually place this statement inside of the onLoad function of
the MovieClip class itself.

Then the function that handles the event, conforms to the method of
how

functions must be written inside of a Class File:

private function myButton_Click( evtObj:Object ):Void
{
//code here...
}

Since you can't use a listener object (like you would if you were
simply

putting functions in the root of the movie itself), and then have a
statement of listenerObject.onRollOver = function() within a Class
File,

I am wondering how I can force the onRollOver and onRollOut events to
get properly broadcasted.

Please keep in mind, I am trying to keep 100% of my code inside of my
Class Files. I know a simple solution could be simply highlighting
the

actual Push Button within the MovieClip, and then directly apply an
"on(event)" function to temporarily accomplish my goals - but this
totally defeats the purpose of creating a separation between Flash App
and Source Code.

I also looked at the SimpleButton.as Class File in which the Button.as
Class is based on. Oddly enough, there are "onRollOver" and
"onRollOut"
functions in there, but it doesn't Dispatch Events - it simply
activates

the "highlight" option when the user rolls over the button. I thought
that was pretty weird... I manually edited the Class File, so that a
Dispatch Event of "onRollOver" and "onRollOut" would be
broadcasted, but

still no dice...

Could any of you point me in the right direction, on how to accomplish
this using only Class Files? Since V2 components, AS 2.0, and Class
Files are being pushed so hard as the preferred way of doing
things, it

simply baffles me why these other events wouldn't be available to the
developer. Sorry, but "click" just isn't doing it for me - I need
more

events out of my components.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

RE: [Flashcoders] Architecture opinion...

2006-03-28 Thread Scott Hyndman
yeah, sure. Any combination of numbers you want. Just make sure all of your
CONFIG_* variables are ascending 2^n numbers (hence the bitwise, we're dealing
with binary number reps here). So...

1
2
4
8
16
32
...and so on

You'll find that this technique is used frequently in many frameworks and
standard libraries, so it's a good thing to understand if you ever choose to
move away from Flash. The V2 Alert component even uses it to determine what
buttons an Alert should display. And not to mention it's fast as hell. No
lengthy array scans to determine configuration. :)

Re: [Flashcoders] Makin a Game

2006-03-28 Thread elibol
To do what you seem to be questioning, maybe 2 classes, a shapeData object,
and a shapeManager, the latter would serve to manage shapeData objects.
shapeData objects would store a shapes library ID, along with any user
interactive changes that the original shape may under go. The shapeManager
would server to add, remove, read, and write shapeData.

Maybe something along these lines...

Good luck Varun,

M.

I would create a class that, as an instance, would be equiped to carry the
library ID of the object

[Flashcoders] MXI Creator and Ant build

I've been trying to package some class files with MXI File creator
(Excellent tool -by the way) and My stack of class files is getting bigger.
Can MXI File Creator use ANT. I'm starting to feel like it might be time
for me to learn ANT and if I could use it for this part of my project it
would be more justified.

Re: [Flashcoders] setting properties on a loaded movie clip with a dynamic name

you could also do it this way..

var lo:Object;
var mcLoader:MovieClipLoader;
var childClips:Array;

doNextLoad(-1);

function doNextLoad(index):Void
{
index++;
	var mc = createEmptyMovieClip('_cancelButton' + index,
getNextHighestDepth() );

lo['t'] = this;
lo['i'] = index;
lo.onLoadComplete = function(target:MovieClip):Void
{
this['t'].handleLoadComplete( target, this['i'] );
}
mcLoader.addListener(lo);
mcLoader.loadClip( 'gif', mc );
}

function handleLoadComplete( target, index ):Void
{
childClip.push(target);
target._visible = false;
doNextLoad( index );
}

hope that helps

[Flashcoders] Creating Rows of objects

2006-03-28 Thread Flash Mel
Sorry if this shows up three times, but I am having trouble sending emails
to the list.

///

Hello,

Here is what I have so far:

import mx.transitions.Tween;
import mx.transitions.easing.*;

m = 0;
numTiles = 112;

function placeTiles() {
if (m == numTiles){
m = 0;
clearInterval(buildTiles);
} else {
_root.attachMovie("square", "tile" + m + "_mc", m, {_x:m % 14 * 50,
_y:Math.floor(m / 14) * 50});
myObj = "tile" + m + "_mc";
new Tween(_root[myObj], "_alpha", Regular.easeInOut, 0, 100, 35,
false);
_root[myObj].number_text.text = m;
m++;
}
}

buildTiles = setInterval(placeTiles, 30);

This works fine. Builds the rows one after another. But what I am trying
to do is build one row across and one down. Make sense?

In essence:

123
456
789

That sequence would display:

1

then

12
4

then

123
45
7

and so on

123
456
78

until all the objects fill the screen.

Any advice would greatly be appreciated.

Ciao,

[Flashcoders] FileReference does double post?

2006-03-28 Thread David Cohn

Hey all,

Has anybody run into a case where using a FileReference instance to
browse/upload causes the server to receive 2 POSTs?

This seems to happen whenever the uploaded file is over 10240 bytes.
The first POST is received with a content size of 0, the second gets
the full size/content of the file.

We can just ignore 0-length POSTs and everything works just fine, but
it's puzzling enough to want to know what's going on...

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Re: [Flashcoders] setting properties on a loaded movie clip with a dynamic name

2006-03-28 Thread David Farrell

Thanks for replying.

That's kinda what I'm doing - that would work for the example given as
would my currentClip thing (which is similar to what you have done only
with a bit of redirection (create a clip, THEN create a reference to
that clip)).

But my problem really lies when loading a dynamic clip.

like this:

for (var i:Number = 0; i < numberOfButtons; i++) {
  this.createEmptyMovieClip("button"+i, getNextHighestDepth());
  loader.loadClip("someImage.gif", this["button"+i]);
  var currentClip = this["button"+i];
  loadListener.onLoadComplete = function(currentClip:MovieClip ):Void {
  currentClip ._visible = false;
  }
}

in the above example, it works fine - if numberOf Buttons = 1.

if i'm loading two or more, the second time round the loop, the var
currentClip is reassigned to the second button and when the first
button's onLoadComplete is triggered, it sets the wrong button's variable.

The same thing would happen with your example would it not?

The second time round the loop, myMC would be reassigned to button1
(from button0)?

well...

I assume I am missing something fairly simple in my process but
here goes:

[code]
createEmptyMovieClip("_cancelOrder", getNextHighestDepth());
loader.loadClip("buttonCancelOrder.gif", this["_cancelOrder"]);
var currentClip = this["_cancelOrder"];
loadListener.onLoadComplete = function(currentClip ):Void {
currentClip ._visible = false;

Now... in this instance, I could have passed _cancelOrder through
to the onLoadComplete (instead of passing currentClip)- since it is
a top level and predefined var. But seperately in the same script I
dynamically create movieclips with names like "button"+i - so since
there is a number in the title (and an indeterminate number of
them), i need to refer to them in a for loop as this["button"+i]

and you can't pass that through to onLoadComplete - hence I have
been assigning the dynamic movie to a temporary variable

so far so good.

but when I have a number of these loading, often the next clip is
assigned to 'currentClip' before the first one has finished loading
- this means that the currentClip doesn't refer to the movieclip it
should when the first onLoadComplete is triggered.

how do i get by this?

I basically want to load in X images, and then be able to set
different properties / onReleases for each of them - but using the
above, I can't see how to.

It all falls down because the movie clips don't have 'real' names -
but can only be refered to as this["button"+i] and you can't pass
that to the movie loader because of the inline function style.

The only thing I can think of is to do a check to see if EVERYTHING
has loaded, then I could just have a big chunk of code that loops
round everything and sets all the vars - but that's a bit crap!

Anyway, any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: [Flashcoders] setting properties on a loaded movie clip with a dynamic name

2006-03-28 Thread Christian

create a temporary reference

var myMC = createEmptyMovieClip("_cancelOrder",getNextHighestDepth());

now you don't need currentClip

loadListern.onLoadComplete = function(myMC:MovieClip){
   myMC._visible = false;
}

Did I miss something or is that what you were asking for?

[Flashcoders] Creating Rows of objects

2006-03-28 Thread Flash Mel
Hello,

Here is what I have so far:

import mx.transitions.Tween;
import mx.transitions.easing.*;

m = 0;
numTiles = 112;

function placeTiles() {
if (m == numTiles){
m = 0;
clearInterval(buildTiles);
} else {
_root.attachMovie("square", "tile" + m + "_mc", m, {_x:m % 14 * 50,
_y:Math.floor(m / 14) * 50});
myObj = "tile" + m + "_mc";
new Tween(_root[myObj], "_alpha", Regular.easeInOut, 0, 100, 35,
false);
_root[myObj].number_text.text = m;
m++;
}
}

buildTiles = setInterval(placeTiles, 30);

This works fine. Builds the rows one after another. But what I am trying
to do is build one row across and one down. Make sense?

In essence:

123
456
789

That sequence would display:

1

then

12
4

then

123
45
7

and so on

123
456
78

until all the objects fill the screen.

Any advice would greatly be appreciated.

Re: [Flashcoders] Help with MovieClipLoader

2006-03-28 Thread David Farrell
When movieLoader loads a clip, once it has finished, all the properties
of that clip are reset to default values.

This includes "on" events

This is how I deal with the issue:

   createEmptyMovieClip("_cancelOrder", getNextHighestDepth());
   loader.loadClip("buttonCancelOrder.gif", this["_cancelOrder"]);
   loadListener.onLoadComplete = function(_cancelOrder):Void {
   _cancelOrder ._visible = false;
   }

In this example, I'm setting visibility - but the same applies to
setting onReleases and whatnot.

[Flashcoders] Using onRollOver and onRollOut inside a Class File??

2006-03-28 Thread Mike Anderson
Hello All,

I am getting very confused here, on how to get the "onRollOver" and
"onRollOut" events to be broadcasted whenever the mouse moves over a
Flash Component, contained within a MovieClip using a Class File.

The component in this particular instance, is the Push Button. When
reading the documentation, the only "events" that are mentioned is the
"click" event. To my knowledge, when using a Class File attached to a
MovieClip containing a Push Button component, there is only one type of
syntax that can be used for adding listeners.

For example:

myButton.addEventListener( "click", myButton_Click );

And you usually place this statement inside of the onLoad function of
the MovieClip class itself.

Then the function that handles the event, conforms to the method of how
functions must be written inside of a Class File:

private function myButton_Click( evtObj:Object ):Void
{
//code here...
}

Since you can't use a listener object (like you would if you were simply
putting functions in the root of the movie itself), and then have a
statement of listenerObject.onRollOver = function() within a Class File,
I am wondering how I can force the onRollOver and onRollOut events to
get properly broadcasted.

Please keep in mind, I am trying to keep 100% of my code inside of my
Class Files. I know a simple solution could be simply highlighting the
actual Push Button within the MovieClip, and then directly apply an
"on(event)" function to temporarily accomplish my goals - but this
totally defeats the purpose of creating a separation between Flash App
and Source Code.

I also looked at the SimpleButton.as Class File in which the Button.as
Class is based on. Oddly enough, there are "onRollOver" and "onRollOut"
functions in there, but it doesn't Dispatch Events - it simply activates
the "highlight" option when the user rolls over the button. I thought
that was pretty weird... I manually edited the Class File, so that a
Dispatch Event of "onRollOver" and "onRollOut" would be broadcasted, but
still no dice...

Could any of you point me in the right direction, on how to accomplish
this using only Class Files? Since V2 components, AS 2.0, and Class
Files are being pushed so hard as the preferred way of doing things, it
simply baffles me why these other events wouldn't be available to the
developer. Sorry, but "click" just isn't doing it for me - I need more
events out of my components.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

there is also a video tutorial here: http://www.gotoandlearn.com/ -
called v2 component skinning (under select a tutorial)

also you want to skin the UIScrollbar. The list component uses the

[Flashcoders] Window component problem

2006-03-28 Thread frode hansen
 I have a problem with a flash movie where the window component works just
fine in 95% of the times, but once in a while the component stops working.
The component opens, but there seems to be a white area behind the component
which moves around with the window when i move the window. The window
contains an external swf with form elements (which receives data after the
window.complete event and the onEnterFrame hack mentioned in other threads).
When the window fails, these components also fail. The dataproviders is not
set, and the buttons I hide on complete event is all visible.

Has anyone else seen this problem?

[Flashcoders] ZINC - Last Good Version (was FATAL Zinc issue)

2006-03-28 Thread Jim Tann
I have just bought Zinc and looking at this thread yesterday on how
stable it is I was wondering what the last good version is.

Are you all using 2.5.0.12 or should I get a previous version?

Jim

Yes - I've had exactly the same problem. For example, a key bit of
functionality (for me) broke in a new version. I raised it as an issue
- it was acknowledged and assigned a bug id - and reverted to an older
version. No announcement of the functionality being fixed was ever
made. A couple of months later I downloaded a newer version and, lo
and behold, it was fixed, but that fix wasn't mentioned in any release
note. And something else was broken.

Bit of a quality issue going on there...

What is the best regular expression classes for AS 2.0

I use to use Pavils Jurjans in as 1.0. I was thinking of using as2lib
classes for a new project.

Thanks for any insight. I can't use AS3 it's for an existing project. I
know
that this is one of those once a quarter emails. I have been here for
several years. But I don't want to make a bad decision.

[Flashcoders] Printing capabilities

2006-03-28 Thread julian atienza
Hi. I'm learning about printing capabilities of Flash and AS2.0
I know now print, PrintJob, etc.

My question is:

Is there any way to format contents of a textArea (with html and styles) and
send to print easily?
It would mean, add automatic page breaks, redistribute text for line breaks,
and so on...

I think i must make it by hand (creating a "virtual" container to pass my
current textArea screen-formatted contents into a textArea print-formatted
contents) but it's so... hard to code, because i want an A-4 results with a
report-design.

Must i create a so big hidden textarea with correct measurements and
controlling page/line breaks???

thanks in advance

[Flashcoders] Flasc - simple question

2006-03-28 Thread Bram Plessers
Hello,

Trying to use Flasc.
I have a simple fla with only some squares on stage on
my first frame. No actionscript etc.

I've created a new "test" group with a "test" project &
checked the -mx option in the [edit tags] overview.

Where did I go wrong :)

Thanks !

This is my output:
