[Flashcoders] Q: Flash, digital audio and Slimserver

2007-02-28 Thread moveup
Hi
I'm wondering if anyone has hijacked digital audiofrom their pc/macs using
flash.

I'd like to use some of the more sophisticated audio handling abilities in AS3,
such as accessing sound frequencies.
I'm using Slimserver, a Python/MYsql based music server that also acts as a
'front'end' to itunes, using itunes playlists and streaming digital audio out
to a network music device, in this case the Squeezebox.
http://www.slimdevices.com/

Someone has already created a Flex based front end to Slimserver called Slimfx
http://solaristics.net/slimfx/

I simply want to hijack the digital audio data coming from Slimserver so I can
use it to drive a visual Actionscript3 based dynamic display on my mac.

Not sure where to start...

Have a look at the Matrix (flash.geom.Matrix) class and the Matrix.scale method.

Apply the scaling by providing a Matrix instance in the BitmapData.draw()
method.
Should be some examples in the docs.

Re: [Flashcoders] Append variables to SWF server-side

2007-02-28 Thread Mick G

The reason I want this server side is the SWFs are loading dynamic content
via a database, and I want users to be able to download a SWF with this
dynamic data embedded in the swf so they can use it in their own websites.

I did find this tool which looks promising (allbeit limiting)

So, how is the user viewing the SWF? Is it embedded in an HTML page?
If so, you could just make those parameters defined in the HTML, and
then have the SWF know to look for the parameters at runtime. The
SWFs I use do a lot of that.

This sounds like the kind of thing that would be a bad idea with vectors. If
you're doing that style of drawing you're probably better off working with
copyPixels and BitmapData objects. With all those dots you might find things
chugging.

Re: [Flashcoders] MovieClipLoader woes

2007-02-28 Thread Ian Thomas

Hi Dan (and Muzak),

 I've posted my solution to the problem, but am not entirely sure
that it made the list given the errors we've been having the last few
days.

 In short, it turned out to be a bug (or 'feature') in loadMovie() -
if you have the same instance name repeatedly in the hierarchy of your
clip (e.g. _level0.inst0.inst0.myclip) then loadMovie() _can_ fail
(not always, oddly). Ensuring that all names in the chain were unique
(_level0.inst0.inst1.myclip) solved the problem.

A more complete explanation is here:
http://wildwinter.blogspot.com/2007/02/irritating-bugs-no-1679a-loadmovie-and.html

Thanks for the help,
 Ian

Subject: [Flashcoders] MovieClipLoader woes

Hi all,
 Has anyone ever come across a situation where MovieClipLoader just
refuses to fire any events whatsoever?

 The situation:

- Flash 8, running in IDE or as local projector (on Win XP)
- A whole pile of successful MovieClipLoader calls have been made
(probably 50 or so by this stage), _including_ the very same bit of
code which later fails.
- Nothing else is loading/streaming at the same time.
- Three calls (in rapid succession) are made to a function which does
the following:

 - creates a new MovieClipLoader
 - creates a new MovieClip (at a new depth)
 - assigns a new listener for the MovieClipLoader
 - starts loading a .swf into the clip.

The first two times, it works perfectly. The third time, no events are
fired and the clip apparently doesn't load.

On each occasion, we wait for the previous load to successfully
complete first (onLoadInit) before we call the function again.

Completely repeatable each time.

The loaded .swf isn't doing anything odd (it contains no code
whatsoever).

*sigh*

Any ideas? Or robust alternatives to MovieClipLoader? (Bokel's
LoaderClass is a little heavyweight for what I want to do, but I might
take a look at it).

[Flashcoders] Question: Find out the "depth" of an XML-File

2007-02-28 Thread Wenzler, Thomas
Hello list,

this is my first question to the list... I need to find out the depth of
a given xml file to afterwards find one specific node in the whole
document.

Right now I stacked some loops into each other but that is bad practice
since I never can be sure if I reach the deepest child in my search and
on the other hand have those loops running no matter if it's worth
while.

So what I need is a completely different approach to my problem...

I hope I could make myself understood here and thanks in advance for
your help,

I don't know much about the inner workings of these things, but I doubt that
would help a lot: once drawn, sure it would run fine, but the drawing
process itself would still involve a lot of vector images being added
dynamically. But I could be wrong.

Thanks for the replies,

Yeah I was thinking the same about system chugging with lots of vectors to
handle.. I think I'm more to the BitmapData solution, since it is much
cleaner (adding pixels to the single BitmapData instead of having lots ad
lots of MCs). Thanks Danny

A clever way to approach this would be to save the path information as a
vector, but to apply the airbrush effect in a bitmap along the path -
this way you can assign different brushes to the path after it's been
drawn, undo points etc.

I specify a 640x480 but got always a small copy. Got an Idea ?

Thanks, Laurent

var bitmap = new flash.display.BitmapData(640, 480, true,

copie.attachBitmap(bitmap, 20, "auto", true);

[Flashcoders] path/attachMovie problem

2007-02-28 Thread hervé hubert

Hi,
I'm making a mp3 player for a website.
I started from a code which fits quite well to what I need for this
project

I want to include this player into my flash website.
In this code there is a _root["but"+i] that I would like to replace
by a relative path like this.but[i]

but this doesn't work...
Here is the involved part of my code, can anyone help me?
Thanks alot.

playlist.onLoad = function(success) {
if (success) {
_global.songname = [];
_global.songband = [];
_global.songband = [];
_global.songfile = [];
_global.aside = [];
_global.songinfo = [];
for (var i = 0; i _global.songname[i] = playlist.firstChild.childNodes
[i].attributes.name;
 _global.songband[i] = playlist.firstChild.childNodes
[i].attributes.band;
 _global.songfile[i] = playlist.firstChild.childNodes
[i].attributes.file;

_global.aside[i] =
playlist.firstChild.childNodes[i].attributes.aside;
 _global.songinfo[i] = playlist.firstChild.childNodes
[i].attributes.info;

attachMovie("butTemp","but"+i,i+50);
eval("but"+i).id=i;
_root["but"+i].but_txt.text = songname[i];
_root["but"+i].band_txt.text = songband[i];
_root["but"+i].info.contentMain.info_txt.text = songinfo[i];
_root["but"+i].rotate.aside.loadMovie(aside[i],1);
}
}
}

Flex will do this from the commandline but as with Generator the technology
is generally not used in favour of data providing the customization. Is
there any particular reason you need to do this where it cannot be handled

You should look into flasm (http://flasm.sourceforge.net/) or any code
injecting software out there

That sounds like a good idea - although you might have to include time
information too if you want to be able to make the airbrush thicker when you
move more slowly

Re: [Flashcoders] Urgent help !!! Please :)

2007-02-28 Thread tcoz
This is an ongoing area of debate, but, the fact that popup windows are
problematic isn't disputed.

If I go to a public website, click a link, and see a popup window warning, I
navigate away from the site.

I always advise my clients against this approach. It just introduces issues
that are easily avoidable.

Subject: [Flashcoders] Urgent help !!! Please :)

Hi all

Finishing a project and came to a hurdle.

1. User clicks on link in browser. Opens a new smaller browser window!
(Out of interest, what do people think about opening new browser
windows?, I cant decide whether this is a bad idea to begin with!)

2. Within new window, there is my flash application, which at some
stage requires another flash application! Which is bigger. So I try
the resize window method within body tag, which isnt 100 - i.e doesnt
work in IE7. (ok in firefox)

Whats the best thing to do here?

Does anyone know a 100% working method for resizing windows from within Flash?

Am I doing something totally stupid by even thinking about window resizing?

Any help would be cool!

Love you all

RE: [Flashcoders] simulating airbrush + calligraphy brush

2007-02-28 Thread Mike Mountain
This may actually sort itself out - if you're recording the vector as
it's drawn (brush mode), a quick stroke will yield less points than a
slow stroke - a slow stroke would yield a lot of clustered points which
will translate to a higher accumulation of 'paint' in the given area.

Robb,

Just out of interest, how were you able to overcome the ntdll.dll issue
that
is common with zinc? I used to love using zinc but as far as I know they
still haven't come up with a proper working solution for the problem.

I had the horrible experience of sending a product to manufacturing

from
users who were unable to use it on win2k and a few other OS's.

Apparently Northcode are working on an update to make the system work

mProjector (www.screentime.com) does apparently work fine with Vista,

Hi there,

I'm using swf studio as a swf wrapper. Unfortunately swf studio has not
been updated for vista yet. As a result you have to have administrator
rights to run the flash app.

Even more annoying is the fact that if you just run the application by
double-clicking the exe (or through an autorun file on a CD-ROM) the exe
won't start but will still be listed in the task manager. This means
that you manually have to quit the application in the task manager
before you can start the exe as an administrator.

The worst thing about this whole issue is that Microsoft didn't think it
was necessary to inform the user in any way when he tries to run a
legacy exe.
No error message - nothing. The app just won't start.

So my question is: "Are there any workarounds yet?" Do other swf wrapper
tools already work with vista?

I came up with this idea of creating a vista compatible windows form
application. This application would then open an alert popup window,
which in

Re: [Flashcoders] simulating airbrush + calligraphy brush

2007-02-28 Thread Guntur N. Sarwohadi

apply the airbrush effect in a bitmap along the path -
this way you can assign different brushes to the path after it's been
drawn, undo points etc.

mmm.. love the idea... but, what do you mean by placing bitmaps along a
path? did you mean it will also stretch or just show for every vertex of the
path? can you give me pseudo-code of how to do this?

thanks

[Flashcoders] Right Click disabling

2007-02-28 Thread Andy Jones
Hi,

I know this has been done to death but nothing has answered my real
problem. I need to turn off the right click menu completely in a swf.
I don't want it to display custom stuff (I can do that), I want it to
detect a right click but not show the menu. This can only be in a swf,
not an exe so the compilers don't work.

Please help - this has been driving me wild!

RE: [Flashcoders] ColorMatrix

2007-02-28 Thread Holth, Daniel C.

Hi Misa,

My EasyTween class has functionality to tween color tints the way you're
wanting.

A description of use is found here:
http://blog.dcholth.com/2007/02/23/easytween-explained/

And you can download the EasyTween.as file here:
http://blog.dcholth.com/downloads/

The only problem with tweening colors, is you may notice it tweens
through what looks like random colors before it gets to the one you
want. This will depend on which color your tweening to and from because
its actually tweening the individual hex values of the color. Tweening
from the original tint (which is none) of the MovieClip shouldn't have
this problem and should go right to the color you want.

If you end up using it, please let me know your thoughts on it, as
you'll probably be the first person to use it besides me :)

Hope it helps!

Subject: [Flashcoders] ColorMatrix

Hello flash coders,

I need some help with color transformations. I want to change dynamicly
the hue of a MC with a transition/tween, something like fading from one
image to another with different colors. I tried both G. Skinner's and M.

Klingman's colorMatrix class, but the tweening they use is bound to some

object. In G.S's demo there's a scroll bar, and in M.K's he uses two
images. I want to use one of their classes but be able to transform the
color of one MC just with a function: onSomeEvent ... { tweenHue for
myMC from thisHUE to newHUE }.

Thanks in advance

Re: [Flashcoders] path/attachMovie problem

2007-02-28 Thread Chris Bowley

Hi

In order to reference movieclips using an index you would need to
keep them in an array. Alternatively if you don't need to reference
them by name, you can use the return value of attachMovie() to keep a
reference:

for () {
...

var mc:MovieClip = _root.attachMovie("butTemp","but"+i,i+50);
mc.id=i;
mc.but_txt.text = songname[i];
mc.band_txt.text = songband[i];
mc.info.contentMain.info_txt.text = songinfo[i];
mc.rotate.aside.loadMovie(aside[i],1);

...
}

This works no matter where you attach the movieclip as 'mc' is a
reference to it.

Depends how you want to do it, but the simplest is to work with a spline.
One method is to take one brush point every few moments and turn this path
into a Catmull-Rom spline. Then you can draw as many points along the spline
as you like. A quick guide to catmull rom splines is here:
http://www.mvps.org/directx/articles/catmull/, but in essence:

function catmullPoint (p0, p1, p2, p3, t) {
// where p0 to p3 are points, and t is the fraction of the distance between
p1 and p2
return 0.5 * (2*p1 + t*(p2 - p0) + t*t*(2*p0 - 5*p1 + 4*p2 - p3) +
t*t*t*(-p0 + 3*p1 - 3*p2 + p3))
}

So if you have a list of points p0, p1, ... , pN, then you can draw as many
points along the spline as you like.

Flash uses quadratic bezier curves in the drawing API and cubic beziers in
the actual application - a cubic bezier and a Catmull-Rom spline are
essentially the same thing but with different parameterizations.

Thanks Jason,
 I've got Moock's book, and having had a quick skim, I think it's
too advanced for the person in question who's only ever done very
basic scripting; I was looking for something simpler. Would the FoE
book suit, do you think?

yeah.. i usually just use lineTo in a loop while the mouse is pressed.. no
curveTo as i thought it's unnecessary.

so I just need to place the bitmaps after the lineTo? is that all? if I need
to stretch the bitmap, say from the last point to the current, is that
possible? or by just placing the bitmaps per point will suffice?

RE: [Flashcoders] simulating airbrush + calligraphy brush

2007-02-28 Thread Mike Mountain
Just want to be clear - you're not placing bitmaps - but writing bitmap
data, so once the line is drawn (you'd represent it somehow as a vector
preview) you create some bitmapData which encompasses the line and brush
width, then you'd copy from your brush bitmap into the new bitmap along
the length of the spline.

Using this technique you could vary things like scatter, velocity,
wetness, pressure etc according to how fast the stroke was brushed.

RE: [Flashcoders] Beginners/Designers Actionscript

2007-02-28 Thread Merrill, Jason
Yes - the Friends of Ed book is probably better, but if you don't have a
good enough handle on AS 1, you'll be even more confused by AS 2. At
some point, the "person in question" just needs to jump off the dock and
start swimming. :)

I have found the OOP aspects of AS2 learnable only by repeated
experience - experimenting, trying again, reading, trying some more,
etc. The syntax of AS2 is the easy part - the design pattern is what
takes time to learn. Focus on the syntax of AS2 (class strucutre,
public/private/static, typecasting) and then the actual implementation
of practical use just takes practice.

Re: [Flashcoders] Subscription problems

2007-02-28 Thread Muzak
I think we're all aware by now that the list has problems.
I'm sure Dave is looking into the matter and the list will be fixed at some
point.

Sending "me too" or "unsubscribe me" messages is not gonna speed up the fixing
process.

Instead of whining about it you could simply look into setting up a filter for
your mail client.
I've already posted some url's that explain how to do that if you don't know
how to..
And there's always google..

I myself (and I'm sure many others) am subscibed to about 20 mailing lists and
I receive about 30 to 4 emails a month.
None of those end up in my inbox.

Each mail from this list has "[Flashcoders]" in the subject line.
All you have to do is set up a filter for that and have the mail sent to a
seperate folder or whatever else you wanna do with it
(block, delete, leave on server, etc..).

regards,
Muzak

As a temporary solution, why don't you just set up a rule/filter/smart
folder that moves anything with the word [Flashcoders] in the subject

[Flashcoders] CellRenderer, Datagrid & component updating

2007-02-28 Thread Merrill, Jason
I have the followinng setup:

comboBoxA, a dataGrid, and a cellrenderer in the datagrid which renders
comboboxB in each cell. ComboboxA switches the dataprovider for the
datagrid, thus changing the datagrid.

It's all working fine, except that I cannot seem to get the comboBox
within the datagrid to change it's selected index according to the value
in the new dataProvider in the datagrid. I have followed the Adobe
script examples for (their ComboBoxCell.as file), but the combobox's
selectedIndex in the cell remains the same even though the dataprovider
changes.

It does however work fine for other cellRenderers in the datagrid, like
some textInputs.

I would ask the question first before posting a lot of code - anyone
have any ideas?

seems it has a lag due to the 'calculating stuff to bitmaps'.. i need to be

if that's my case, placing bitmaps while dragging will suffice, no?

Re: [Flashcoders] Subscription problems

2007-02-28 Thread Ron Wheeler
Put a filter in your e-mail client to dump all of the Flashcoders e-mail
into a separate folder and one a month delete the contents until you can
unsubscribe.
I subscribe to quite a few lists and everything gets sorted on its way
in so that I can deal with each list in its turn.

If your e-mail does not support filters, get Thunderbird.

No one wants to pause the list for a few people who are having trouble
organizing their incoming e-mail.
This list is the lifeblood of anyone serious about coding in
ActionScript (unless you would like to answer all of the questions while
the list is "paused")

I think this will help..

Le 28 févr. 07 à 16:46, Chris Bowley a écrit :

Hi

In order to reference movieclips using an index you would need to
keep them in an array. Alternatively if you don't need to reference
them by name, you can use the return value of attachMovie() to keep a
reference:

for () {
...

var mc:MovieClip = _root.attachMovie("butTemp","but"+i,i+50);
mc.id=i;
mc.but_txt.text = songname[i];
mc.band_txt.text = songband[i];
mc.info.contentMain.info_txt.text = songinfo[i];
mc.rotate.aside.loadMovie(aside[i],1);

...
}

This works no matter where you attach the movieclip as 'mc' is a
reference to it.

[Flashcoders] AS3: how can I suppress - ReferenceError: Error #1074 ?

2007-02-28 Thread Francis Chary

We're building an application that loads one swf into another. Both swfs use
the same version of a class, let's call it com.as.MyClass.

We've established what the error is, an attempt by the child swf to register
its version of com.as.MyClass in the ApplicationDomain. Flash doesn't like
that, so it ignores the child definition of the class.

// Quick refresher of ApplicationDomain here:
// http://blogs.adobe.com/rgonzalez/2006/06/applicationdomain.html

We actually don't have a problem with this, in fact it's preferable for the
parent swf's version of MyClass to be preserved. HOWEVER, when it happens,
the player throws up an error similar to this:

ReferenceError: Error #1074: Illegal write to read-only property MyClass on
global at global$init()

I really want to know how to suppress this error, because the behaviour is
correct. It's working fine the way it is, we just don't want users to ever
see the warning.

Are there any ApplicationDomain experts out there?

Thanks in advance,
Francis

[Flashcoders] Editing .as files with vim editor (non-english chars broken)

2007-02-28 Thread Alexander Farber

Hello,

is anybody using the Vim editor on Windows for editing
ActionsScript files?

My problem is that the cyrillic letters which are being displayed
ok by Macromedia Flash IDE appear broken in Vim 7.0.

The russian text is displayed twice as long as it should be and
there are repeatable "P" and "C" characters - which is what
I often see in other programs, which mistake Unicode text by
the Windows-1251 text.

Has anybody found a solution there?

Regards
Alex

RE: [Flashcoders] Skewing MovieClip??

2007-02-28 Thread Holth, Daniel C.

As far as I can figure, "skewing" isn't available in flash right now...

Adjusting the yScale will change the dimensions of a movieclip, for
example
(Hope my ASCII drawings work!)
___

___
Becomes
_

_
When you reduce the _yScale.

Skewing horizontally would be adjusting the x coordinates on the top of
the movieclip but leaving the ones on the bottom. Skewing a square to
the right would result in this:
___

___
Becomes

 / /
/___/

Which I don't believe you would be able to do with a MovieClip. You may
be able to achieve these results with drawing simple shapes or maybe
using some of the bitmap functionality, but that is way over my head.

Re: [Flashcoders] simulating airbrush + calligraphy brush

2007-02-28 Thread Mick G

If you want to simulate a painting application you have to be mindful of how
artists work. You WILL have ten of thousands of strokes being generated
which will at some point (depending on the users system) slow down the flash
player.
Many artists do lots of sketch style mouse actions where they may draw 500
tiny lines just to outline their drawing, and then another 5000 lines
filling in an area with shading and color.

Placing these thousands of bitmaps will slow things down more so than using
a more efficient method of modifying bitmap data.

BitmapExporter.. but it is something i'll look in to, definitely.

if that's my case, placing bitmaps while dragging will suffice, no?

[Flashcoders] Dragging a clip gives erratic ._x numbers

2007-02-28 Thread Paul Hoza

Heya folks,

This is baffling me (and making me very annoyed), and I haven't found an
answer elsewhere, so here goes...

I have a main movie with a custom drag "scrubber" control. At the core
of my app (Flash 8 Pro) is this scrubber that needs to simply return its
position so I can use it to display the proper frame of a movie clip
(with many frames).

Problem is that dragging the scrubber in one direction very slowly will
frequently get erratic and NOT just increase or decrease relevant to the
drag direction. Now, I originally thought it could be poor rounding
math code on my part, but I finally put a text counter on the screen
that simply displays the value of "mcTheMovieClip._x" which is the
dragged clip. Here's what I mean by erratic:

Dragging from left to right, ._x reports:
..101, 102, 101, 102, 103, 104, ..

What the friggin' poo?? What exactly causes a dragged movie clip to
jump back/forth a pixel or two? It's making an accurate, consistently
one-directional drag behavior to be roughly impossible!

I'm miffed, but hopefully somebody has a clue on this and would be so
kind as to throw down some helpful bits.

Thanks!
Paul Hoza

Re: [Flashcoders] Skewing MovieClip??

2007-02-28 Thread Snepo - Arse

Skewing isn't available but is possible.

In order to skew a clip (skewClip) the clip needs to be nested inside
another movie clip (containerClip).

To skew - rotate both skewClip and containerClip in opposite
directions and modify either the _xscale or _yscale of
containerClip... the result s a skewed skewClip. I'm not certain of
the math to make this readily usable but this technique should offer
a start.

[Flashcoders] Resize Flash content dynamically via JS in IE6 when DOCTYPE declaration is present in HTML

2007-02-28 Thread JabbyPanda
Dear flashcoders,

 I have a flash content sitting on the single page with dynamic height
and width value (100% and 100%).

---example of SWF embedding in HTML
 var flashObj = new SWFObject("myFlash.swf", "flash_obj", "100%", "100%", 9,
true);

 I resize the Flash content using JS by applying technique described by Eduardo
Ramos here: http://2mdc.com/resizableFlash/

 As it was correctly mentioned here
http://www.dncompute.com/blog/2006/03/20/javascript-flash-resize.html
this resize techninuque does not work in Internet Explorer 6 browser
if DOCTYPE XHTML declaration line is present in HTML page.

The question is:
How to resize flash content dynamically if NEED to keep DOCTYPE XHTML
declaration line
in HTML and IE6 is still on the list of supported browsers :)

I'm not on windows, but if you,

 :set encoding

what encoding does it tell you?

If not 'utf-8', try,

 :set encoding=utf-8

Re: [Flashcoders] Skewing MovieClip??

Well i was talking about skewing orizontally in order to have a mirrored
movieClip effect.. by the way, Snepo, your way you of a nested movieClip is
true but not achievable dynamically, another technique i am trying to use is
by using the mx.geom.Transform class and the mx.geom.Matrix class but i am
still trying to figure out it's properties...

On 2/28/07, Snepo - Arse <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

In order to skew a clip (skewClip) the clip needs to be nested inside
another movie clip (containerClip).

To skew - rotate both skewClip and containerClip in opposite
directions and modify either the _xscale or _yscale of
containerClip... the result s a skewed skewClip. I'm not certain of
the math to make this readily usable but this technique should offer
a start.

Re: [Flashcoders] simulating airbrush + calligraphy brush

2007-02-28 Thread Michael Hood
What about creating a function that acts as sort of a "History" (like the way
Photoshop does) - only, in addition to recording each action the artist
performs on his project, it also does the following:
The application creates a "TEMP" folder for each new project.
Inside each project folder, a log file (the Historical action archive) is
created, which keeps the User's last "X" number of actions, which can be
"backed out" of ("undone"), to some set limit (The "Undo Threshold").
As the "Undo Threshold" is reached, the application fires off a "Screen
Capture" of whatever is currently on the Canvas (stage, paper, background, or
whatever) and stores it, along with the historical information, in the project
folder. (the images could even be constantly replaced, as the threshold is
reached, so it doesn't gobble up disk space)
As the User continues to work, the History Log keeps track of every action that
is taken. Within a span of 100 actions, for example, 75 can actually be
"undone." With every 20 - 25 actions taken, the application does an automatic
Screen Capture. Once the "Undo" threshold is reached, the canvas (the
bottom-most layer?) is [hopefully] inperceptively replaced with the Screen
Capture (.jpeg image ? or whatever's clever) from a hundred moves back.
Did that make any sense??? Hey, what do you want for a 10-minute [possible]
solution?! :-P .

Adjusting the yScale will change the dimensions of a movieclip, for
example (Hope my ASCII drawings work!) ___

___
Becomes
_

_
When you reduce the _yScale.

Skewing horizontally would be adjusting the x coordinates on the top

of the movieclip but leaving the ones on the bottom. Skewing a
square to the right would result in this:

___

___
Becomes

 / /
/___/

Which I don't believe you would be able to do with a MovieClip.
You may
be able to achieve these results with drawing simple shapes or maybe

using some of the bitmap functionality, but that is way over my

head.

RE: [Flashcoders] Right Click disabling

2007-02-28 Thread Kalani Bright

Hi Andy,

This will drive you wild until you're living with the lions in Africa. Save
yourself. It's not possible especially in a .swf. They removed that
possibility in flash 5 or 6.

I even tried putting in in a C# windows application with complicated
scripting to toggle a layer above it and faking mouse events that I wanted
to send. I found you can't send fake events to flash. You would need
access to the unmanaged code area (for other readers). It's especially not
possible with a swf or an application unless that application is a Zinc app
or if you shell out some big moolah to Adobe for a special license (but
won't work for a swf either).

Come back, Andy, come back into the light...it's not worth it really.

Hi,

I know this has been done to death but nothing has answered my real problem.
I need to turn off the right click menu completely in a swf.
I don't want it to display custom stuff (I can do that), I want it to detect
a right click but not show the menu. This can only be in a swf, not an exe
so the compilers don't work.

Please help - this has been driving me wild!

Re: [Flashcoders] Dragging a clip gives erratic ._x numbers

2007-02-28 Thread David Cohn

Paul,

I know it's no help, but I recently ran into this also and never
found a workaround...

I'd love to know if you find one!

--Dave

Heya folks,

This is baffling me (and making me very annoyed), and I haven't
found an

answer elsewhere, so here goes...

I have a main movie with a custom drag "scrubber" control. At the
core
of my app (Flash 8 Pro) is this scrubber that needs to simply
return its

position so I can use it to display the proper frame of a movie clip
(with many frames).

Problem is that dragging the scrubber in one direction very slowly
will
frequently get erratic and NOT just increase or decrease relevant
to the

drag direction.

Thanks!
Paul Hoza

Buy both the cookbook and the ActionScript 3 Design Patterns one!
Both are indespensible when you are new too Actionscript 3.

Well written and nice to read books.

[Flashcoders] Flash 9 AS3 Resource Management

2007-02-28 Thread Kalani Bright
Hi everyone,

Does anyone have some tips or tutorials on how to handle resources and
performance issues in flash.

I have more of an application than a flash file and things start to slow
down after a while. I'm thinking the garbage collection mechanism in flash
isn't deleting the objects which aren't needed anymore.
I was able to improve performance somewhat by overriding addEventListener to
put the event listener into an array of objects which I then reference
values from. When a SuperMovieClip object is removed from the stage an
event listener for that event goes through the array and removes each of the
listeners. If it is added to the stage again all the listeners are re-added
from the array.

Theres some other slow downs I can't account for. It would be nice if there
was a debugging tool or something so I could see what types of objects are
in memory at any time so I can see whats not getting deleted and what keeps
taking up resources. I am especially interested in however strategies for
dealing with the issues of instantiation, deletion, events, for resource
optimization.

Thank you, thank you, (thank you)

Kalani

Re: [Flashcoders] Dragging a clip gives erratic ._x numbers

2007-02-28 Thread Mick G

Perhaps it's doing some rounding because your mouse is sitting on half
pixels and it's not noticeable to the eye (if that's even possible). Have
you tried putting a Math.ceil around the _x values to see if it helps always
round the value up?

[Flashcoders] Flash 9 Full Screen Mode - Mac Player bugs?

2007-02-28 Thread Dan Rogers

Yo Flashcoders,

I am attempting to use the fullscreen feature in the Flash 9 player
(Stage["displayState"]), while keeping my publish version set to v8.
Everything seems to work fine, but when I use the feature on Safari
for the Mac, some of my button methods aren't working properly-
namely onRollOver. Has anyone else ran into this issue?

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

[Flashcoders] Adding Dynamic Text to Scroll Pane

2007-02-28 Thread Steve Abaffy
Hello,
I am new to the group and have already looked at the archives, and
on line for the answer to this and can't find it anywhere. Here is what I
have. I have a MC which has a ScrollPane. I have the ScrollContent set to
nothing (Also tried setting it to a dynamic text box) and when I get all the
text correctly formatted (which is read from a file) I try this in the first
frame of the MC.

MyScrollPane.setScrollContent(MyText); // Doesn't work
MyScrollPane.ScrollContent(MyText); //Doesn't work
MyScrollPane.ScrollContent = MyText; // Doesn't work

I'm running out of ideas.
Any help would be appreciated.
