[Flashcoders] Projector, loaded SWFs and audio files

2009-06-11 Thread Eric E. Dolecki
Quick question.
I have a projector that loads SWFs on demand. The SWFs are in a subdirectory
called "Sections". Each section SWF that loads into the directory loads it's
own audio from a folder inside the Sections directory. Works fine on their
own, but when loaded into the Projector, the relative path is off as the
SWFs loaded into the projector now think they are at the same directory
level as the projector and the load audio gets botched.

How can I fix this so it works from the SWF themselves as well as within the
projector (without embedding the audio anywhere)?

[Flashcoders] swf doesn't work

2009-06-11 Thread Mendelsohn, Michael
Hi list...

[CS3, dev machine has FP10 installed]

I have a swf rendering problem on the pc. Two people are viewing my swf with
player 9,0,16,0. When the swf initializes, there are a series of animations
that occur where sprites are faded in on the stage. These two people only see
the last sprite fade in, without seeing all the other sprites accumulate on the
stage.

My gut tells me it's a player version issue somehow. I am not sure why they
aren't seeing it correctly. I'm publishing for 9, but I'm not sure if it's
publishing a 9 build higher than 9,0,16,0. I target 9,0,16 in the html. I'm
really puzzled.

Thanks for any advice,
- Michael M.

Michael,

Sometimes things that appear to be player issues turn out to be loader
issues. When you first publish for external people, it's often the first
time you go over the web AND the first time you get configurations. Can you
be sure the app handles the loading of those sprite assets properly, using
Test Download and reviewing the code?

2009-06-11 Thread Mendelsohn, Michael
Thanks for responding Jonathan. My only external asset is an xml file, and I
write a textfield to the stage if there's an IOError. That's not happening,
and all other sprites/graphics are within this swf. It seems to me it's more
of an ActionScript error, as if each chunk of code wipes out the previous chunk
of code and all I'm left with is the last chunk of code.

Re: [Flashcoders] Flash CS4 very slow

Unless you have a High speed 16GB SD card and you are using it for
readyboost, turn off super fetch, and turn off the windows search
indexing service when you don't need it.

Prefetch only really works to aid boot time and launching apps if you
are using readyboost; otherwise, it causes a great deal of unnecessary
cycles and spins on your hd platters and destroys your hard drive in a
much smaller timeframe than usual.

Search indexing, although very useful, causes a great deal of
unnecessary spins on the hard disk, and a great deal of cpu cycles that
could otherwise be devoted to your applications.

My advice is really just to turn off what ever services you don't need;
yet, I can tell you that turning these services off won't harm anything
and will help you in the long run.

Hi Michael

Keep in mind that Flash CS3 was released in conjunction with Flash Player 9r45
(9,0,45,0). I can't recall all the differences. But there are certain events
such as the ADDED_TO_STAGE/REMOVED_FROM_STAGE event that didn't make it in till
at least 9r28. I also believe that 9r28 was the first release that supported
all the various OSes and processors including Vista, Mac Intel. There were
separate releases that added these features/OS support, but if need to set a
minimum target for your content then don't go any further back then 9r28 and if
you are using any of the Flash CS 3 features and components, you can't reliably
support prior to 9r45 (without a lot of compatibility testing).

-Usually the processing agent gives you a web api and through Get and

Hi Eric,

are you using as2 or as3?

The basic solution is to look at the url of the loading swf, and make your
paths relative to that.
If you make it a little more complex (but usually some splitting and joining
will be enough) you can use something like this:
http://objectpainters.com/blog/2007/01/03/where-am-i-relative-paths/

but it's as2.
I have an as3 version as well if you need it.

faster than cs3. Maybe compiling really takes slightly longer (a sec or two)

Re: [Flashcoders] Mouse Leave Event

2009-06-11 Thread Joseph Masoud

Thanks Karl.

To Reproduce the first problem:

1. Click (and hold) on the ScrollBar Thumb.
2. Drag the thumb around.
3. Move the cursor outside the stage i.e. to the white area
surrounding the Flash player.

4. Release the mouse.

You will notice that the thumb remains active and if you hover back
into the stage, it will start moving.

I have [at last] solved this problem, however I am unsure that this is
the quickest solution. I've customized the ScrollPane, BaseScrollPane
and ScrollBar classes. Now, when the user clicks on the thumb, a new
listener is added to the stage, that will be able to handle a
mouse_up, even if it doesn't occur on the stage. The scroll bar no
longer "sticks" when the user releases the mouse outside the stage. I
was hoping there was a quicker way to do this, however, it's taken a
day of snooping around component source code to resolve the issue. If
anyone knows a better way, I'm all ears. I've added the new player
(version -0.0.2) [ http://www.mavedu.com/viewer ].

1 down, about a thousand more to go.

Like you have suggested, I want users to be able to use their mouse
wheel when they are viewer the document. The other thing, if you look
at the Scribd player, you can drag a document if you click on the grey
area around it. I'm not particularly fond of that, but I don't want
users thinking "But the Scribd player can do that". Unfortunately,
whether it's a bug or not, people are used to it and I feel it is
somewhat necessary to accommodate for that.

Many thanks,

I was able to drag the scroll pane button and let go off stage and

Powerbook G4 using Safari 4.
You could use a "track mouse" _x and _y script that knows the
boundaries of your viewer and force it to stopDrag when it goes past
a point.
One other idea (but may be too much at this point) but to add mouse
wheel functionality to your grey rectangle and loaded movieclips.

Then if the user has one he can just hover and scroll... :D
Question, why do you want the grey area to be a mouse_down?
I would think this would be good for what you have so that the user
only selects the page when they want to drag,
otherwise they may not see that you can drag the page because the
mouse will always be in an "over state".

2. The movie clip within the scrollPane is draggable. The movie

is a space of 20px between each swf. How would I be able to make
the mouse_down register when the user clicks on the space between

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Its a AS2 and AS3 code for enabling the users mouse wheel and seems
to work for both MAC and PC users. You can alos set up a function to
do horizontal scrolling by repourposing the code with the x and y
references edited.

I was able to drag the scroll pane button and let go off stage and

Powerbook G4 using Safari 4.
You could use a "track mouse" _x and _y script that knows the
boundaries of your viewer and force it to stopDrag when it goes
past a point.
One other idea (but may be too much at this point) but to add
mouse wheel functionality to your grey rectangle and loaded
movieclips.

Then if the user has one he can just hover and scroll... :D
Question, why do you want the grey area to be a mouse_down?
I would think this would be good for what you have so that the
user only selects the page when they want to drag,
otherwise they may not see that you can drag the page because the
mouse will always be in an "over state".

Hello everyone,
I'm currently working on a document viewer, a very buggy version
of which can be seen on:

Two issues (among hundreds):

1. If you drag the mouse scroll thumb, and release the mouse
outside the stage, the thumb doesn't lose focus. This is a
scrollPane UI component. I think I need to use the mouse_leave
event on the stage, however I'm not quite sure how remove the
focus from the scroll thumb without creating/extending the
scrollPane component.

2. The movie clip within the scrollPane is draggable. The movie
clip has external swfs loaded into it via the Loader class.
There is a space of 20px between each swf. How would I be able
to make the mouse_down register when the user clicks on the space
between the swfs? Perhaps by adding a transparent rectangle in
the background of the movie clip?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
Joseph

Very interesting to see that Flash can detect a mouse_up from
anywhere on your screen as long as mouse_down originated within the
player without using mouse_leave.

Many thanks for the pointers. Very much appreciated.

To Reproduce the first problem:

1. Click (and hold) on the ScrollBar Thumb.
2. Drag the thumb around.
3. Move the cursor outside the stage i.e. to the white area
surrounding the Flash player.

4. Release the mouse.

You will notice that the thumb remains active and if you hover
back into the stage, it will start moving.

Yes that is what I did and I am saying that problem did not happen
for me. When I moved the mouse to the white part and released, it
did loose focus.

I have [at last] solved this problem, however I am unsure that
this is the quickest solution. I've customized the ScrollPane,
BaseScrollPane and ScrollBar classes. Now, when the user clicks
on the thumb, a new listener is added to the stage, that will be
able to handle a mouse_up, even if it doesn't occur on the
stage. The scroll bar no longer "sticks" when the user releases
the mouse outside the stage. I was hoping there was a quicker
way to do this, however, it's taken a day of snooping around
component source code to resolve the issue. If anyone knows a
better way, I'm all ears. I've added the new player (version
-0.0.2) [ http://www.mavedu.com/viewer ].

1 down, about a thousand more to go.

Like you have suggested, I want users to be able to use their
mouse wheel when they are viewer the document. The other thing,
if you look at the Scribd player, you can drag a document if you
click on the grey area around it. I'm not particularly fond of
that,

but I don't want users thinking "But the Scribd player can do that".

Wouldnt loose sleep over it.. :P

Unfortunately, whether it's a bug or not, people are used to it
and I feel it is somewhat necessary to accommodate for that.

Personally I stay away from componnents of any kind. I have a
scroll code I use with MCs that works great and then I can control
everything aobut it and the surrounding areas.

[Flashcoders] Re: Flash CS4 very slow

2009-06-11 Thread Alan Neilsen
Thanks Patrick Matte

Installing the Flash CS4 update from
http://www.adobe.com/support/flash/downloads.html has fixed the problem I had
with Flash CS4 running slowly (and a few other thing). I recommend all Flash
CS4 users do themselves a big favour and install this update.
