[Flashcoders] fscommand launching of externals
Hi John, Northcode made a little free tool called proxy (http://www.northcode.com/blog.php/2007/08/07/Conquering-FSCommand-EXEC-Part-1-Proxy, Download is down the page short before the comments section) that helps you with hiding the cmd window...might be useful. [Flashcoders] 'trace' executes function
Hi List, I just made a little experiment with this code... function setMovieClipX(mc,desiredCoordX):Boolean { var updated:Boolean=true; (desiredCoordX!=mc.x)?mc.x=desiredCoordX:updated=false; return updated; } trace(setMovieClipX(movieClip,286)); ...and found to my utmost surprise that the trace command actually executed the function and updated the movieClip.x position instead of just tracing true or false. If you check omit Trace in the Publish settings, movieClip remains at it's x Position. Wonder if this could be of any use or is a potential danger when using traces to debug? ...about how in his country computers have hamsters on wheels for power supplies and his hamster is sick and he promised his client he would have this done in only two weeks when he didn't know how to do it in the first place. Steven made my day. But while drying my eyes from an outburst of laughter, I want to use one of my rare postings to this list to honestly ask the good people here to listen to Stevens advice and ignore the sense of guilt when ignoring the drama in the company of all benos postings. You recommended him resources enough to study for a year and he still comes back for more. If he was my carpenter I'd most likely (and rather) sit and sleep on the floor. I've been reading this list for 3 years now, posted 3 or four times when all other sources failed, but at the coding level I am now still most of all answers are out there and googleable. Right now I just skip the list digest when I see its content is more than half regarding beno posts. That way I may be missing some of more helpful threads, and I see the purpose of this list going downhill. I don't know if I have the right to complaint as an almost passive reading-only member of the list, and if all active subscribers are happy with the status quo, I will just unsubscribe and all is well. [Flashcoders] Erratic behaviour of TextEvent.LINK
Hi list, I'm currently building an application with FlashDevelop/FlashIDE that gets embedded into a Director standalone later on. My content gets loaded from xml files with CDATA sections containing html-formatted text like this chunk here: Marker: a href='event:abcde'test/a oder PDF:a href='event:test.pdf'mein pdf/a oder Link : a href='event:http://www.mydomain.de'mydomain.de/a ansteuern. The event is then captured by my swf and sent to the embedding Director App via LocalConnection. My problem is that at random one of my href's seems not to be captured(no linkage, no hand cursor, like it was plain text), even worse, testing it standalone yields different results from testing it with Director(in flash, all links work, in director one fails), and worst of all embedding the same CDATA in different xml files yields different failures (flash fails with one of the links embedded that worked flawlwssly in another xml) with the same data-I can see no method in this madness. Fruitless efforts to debug this included setting the textfields to selectable(after googling the TextEvent) to no avail. So I need a) some hint how to deal with textEvent.LINK properly and error-free or b) a plan B to capture links from html-formatted xml nodes and trigger some functions in Director. Kind of frustrated at the moment, glad for every input. [Flashcoders] How to handle ScriptTimeoutError with larger PrintJobs?
Dear Flashcoders, I need to find a solution to the said problem: I have an swf with a printAll function that prints out the content of a multiple frames mc that loads at runtime. Since the Flash.PrintJob class has a built in 15 second Timeout between every subsequent PrintJob.start()/PrintJob.addPage()/PrintJob,send() I get Timeout Errors when the spooling of the pages takes to long. I need to find a way to catch this error and at least reset my swf (I do some scaling to fit to the Print size and reset that later on). Right now I only catch Errors when the user cancels the print job or another error occurs on printing but not the Timeout. Anyway, here's what I tried to date: ///___ var counter=1; var myPrintJob:PrintJob; var currFrame; var options:PrintJobOptions = new PrintJobOptions(); options.printAsBitmap = false; function printHandler(event:MouseEvent) { counter=0; myPrintJob=new PrintJob(); var printTrigger=event.target.name; currFrame=ref.currentFrame; reset_mc(); //alles drucken if (printTrigger==print_btn) { for (var i=1;i=ref.totalFrames;i++) { dispatchEvent(new Event(addNewPage)); } } } function OnAddNewPage(e:Event) { try { counter++; if(counter==1) { trace(started) myPrintJob.start(); } //setze Printbreite if (ref.widthmyPrintJob.paperWidth) { ref.width=myPrintJob.paperWidth; ref.scaleY=ref.scaleX; } trace(adding +counter) ref.gotoAndStop(counter); myPrintJob.addPage(ref, null, options); if(counter==ref.totalFrames) { trace(sent) myPrintJob.send(); myPrintJob=null; //mc zurücksetzen reset_mc(); } } catch(error:Error) { //mc zurücksetzen trace(print error: +error); myPrintJob=null; reset_mc(); return; } catch(e:ScriptTimeoutError) { // ScriptTimeoutError: Error #1502: A script has executed for longer than 15 seconds trace(Timeout: +e); reset_mc(); myPrintJob=null; return; } } function reset_mc() { //mc zurücksetzen //trace(resetting); } ///_ Thanks for any input on this Thomas ___ Flashcoders mailing list Flashcoders@chattyfig.figleaf.com http://chattyfig.figleaf.com/mailman/listinfo/flashcoders
[Flashcoders] Strategies to cope with different encodings of XML data?
Hi there, I need to find the best way to cope with different encodings of XML documents that are loaded at runtime. The documents are user-selected newsfeeds that happen to be encoded in both ISO and UTF-8, so I have to switch System.useCodepage to true or false depending on the encoding of the xml to have special characters rendered correctly. Right now the only idea I came up with was to load the data, check how it is encoded, set the codepage property and load the data again- possibly not the best way to do it? Did I mention it must be done in AS2? Every hint/discussion on the matter is highly appreciated!!! AW: Subject: [Flashcoders] FLV issues on Mac PC
Hello Dan, if your swfs that are loaded to your main application load the flvs, and you use a build in FLV-playback component you might just run into a pathing issue with the components skin which causes the component to stop working. The component skin uses a relative path which you either have to change when you load your component into another path or simply change the location of the skin.swf... Maybe this can solve your problem...though i wonder why it is occurring only under macOS Good luck Thomas -- Message: 9 Date: Tue, 7 Aug 2007 10:56:19 -0500 From: Holth, Daniel C. [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [Flashcoders] FLV issues on Mac PC To: flashcoders@chattyfig.figleaf.com Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Hello, We're creating a training CD-Rom that uses multiple swfs and FLVs. One of the requirements is that the CD-Rom work both on a Mac and PC. We're having some difficulties getting the FLVs to play on the Mac. The problem seems to stem from differences in how the Mac (Safari?) pull FLVs. If I have the FLV on the root directory of the CD-Rom with the main_application.swf file, it plays fine, but if I have the course directories structured how I would like (explained below) it wont play on the Mac. It continues to play on the PC. I would like to have all my swfs organized in volume-chapter folder structure, and all the FLV videos in a separate Videos folder at the root level. Since the main_application.swf loads in other SWFs, the loaded swfs are treated as if they too are on the root level (instead of e:\volume\chapter\loaded_swf.swf). This would seem to work fine, because then I could still point al the swfs to look for the flv in the videos directory at the root, but like I said, unless I have the FLVs on the root level they won't load. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get this system to work on the Mac. If I put all the flvs at the root level it will work, but we're looking at some 50+ flvs, and that would be really cluttered and un-organized. We'd also like to avoid using projectors, since this will eventually be moved to the internet. Thoughts or suggestions much appreciated. Let me know if you need further clarifications. [Flashcoders] Problem with mx.filters
Hello Flashcoders, in a recent project i made use of the blur filter on a container clip that is used all over the project with differing content, but over the project it sometimes blurs and sometimes won't with no obvious regularity (i.e. the content of the container is varying while the filter refuses to work). I traced my filter function if it is applied, traced if it internally caches the container clip as Bitmap, which it both does... so for nowi switched the d*rn thing off and used something else instead. Did someone else experienced similar or related problems with filters?
