[flexcoders] Coldfusion upgrade from 6.1 to 7.0

2006-06-15 Thread Brendan Meutzner
Tried an upgrade tonight from my CF server 6.1 to 7.0 and failed
miserably. It seems that the 7.0 installation wouldn't offer me an
upgrade choice, so I installed it as usual thinking it might just
overwrite. Nope, seperate install all together. So then I backup my
datasources from 6.1, uninstall everything, and then install 7.0
fresh. It installs ok, but doesn't include an instance of JRun4 and
as a result is completely worthless. Tried to install again, no luck.
 Tried to install multi-server instance, no luck. Finally uninstalled
everything again, went back to 6.1 and 3 hours after I started, am
writing this thread.  WTF???

Anybody else done the upgrade successfully, and maybe offer some
advice? I notice I have an upgrade install sitting on my hard drive
from a few months ago, but there's nothing on adobe.com similar to it
anymore under CF downloads. Not sure if I should try the upgrad from
it or not.

G

Brendan

P.S. I know this is a Flex thread, but I have Flex intentions with
this if it ever gets working :-) and I know there's more than a few on
here who've probably done it.

Does the administrator load OK on that URL ?
If you leave the '/' off the end of 'http://theunixservername/flex2gateway',

The CF/Flex connectivity installer *should* have created the mapping for you

[flexcoders] Re: context-menu in flex...

2006-06-15 Thread Cristian Pop
Hi everyone,

I don't want to hijack this thread but it reminded me about one
problem I had with the context menu.

Does anyone knows a way to put a check before an item in the context
menu ? Flash Player can do it (see Play and loop entries). I could not
find anything in the ContextMenu Class.

Thanks,

Cristian

[flexcoders] popup manager loading an app that loads a popup - error

2006-06-15 Thread bobpardoe1959
I have an application that uses the popup manager to load each 'form'
in the app into a unique window for each form. This all works fine.

I have constructed a component (a text box with a lookup facility).
The lookup facility is itself a component.

The lookup is loaded by the text box component using the popup manager.

If I run my form in isolation it all works fine and the lookup pops up.

If I run my form as the app is intended to be run i.e. thru the popup
manager and then try to invoke the lookup, it falls over with the
error below.

Is this a bug or just not allowed ?

Any advice ?

Thanks

 knowledge of where in the grid the right click occured.

 All I'm able to see via the ContextMenuEvent is the mouseTarget

[flexcoders] where's the best place to report bugs?

2006-06-15 Thread Jason
Hoping to get a response from some of the Adobe folks.

Where is the best place to report bugs in Flex 2 beta 3? I've posted
some here but I begin to wonder if that's best. The Adobe website
points to both here and the adobe forum
(http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/index.cfm?forumid=60).
If this isn't the best place, is there a reason both exist? Is it a
Macromedia artifact or is it because yahoo works as a mailing list, too?

[flexcoders] How to recover from 'cleaning' project?

2006-06-15 Thread Phil Marston
Hi all,

Making a mess here! For some reason Flex Builder didn't seem to be
incorporating changes I'd made to source files, so I figured there was
some sort of caching issue (I don't really know how Eclipse works) so I
figured if I clear out all the compiled stuff and get FB to build from
scratch that'd do it ... big mistake it's now refusing to build
apparently because the html file to display the swf in is missing - my
projects bin directory is empty!

What do I have to do?

:'(

RE: [flexcoders] Chart - How to set up color on series ? Bug ?

2006-06-15 Thread Daniel Tuppeny

In that case, it does make sense. Is there any
enumuration (or constants) of the styles, so we could do something
like:

pieSeries.setStyle(Style.Fill,
"...")

I noticed some of the Events have been included like
this (though some of them, like CreationComplete, I couldn't find, so I'm still
using a string!), and this would give compile-time messages. Skins with
additional styles could be added to the skin, eg:

pieSeries.setStyle(mySkin.HFill,
"...")

I guess it's trivial to add my own class that has these
constant strings, but if it's already there...? :-)

Yup, that's what it means. In general, we on the flex
team agree with you. At one point we wanted to automatically provide property
wrappers for all the styles, but it didn't make it onto the list. That approach
also has some theoretical problems...most of the styles on a give component are
consumed by its skins, not the component itself, so theoretically a different
skin set could define different styles. Which means those properties would be
useless.

Does this mean that typos in styles will now only be
caught at runtime, rather than compile time? To me, the old methods
looksnicer :-)

Back in Flex 1.5, because of limitations of the compiler,
we had to wrap a bunch of the charting styles with stubbed out get/set
functions. Now that those limitations have been fixed, we scrubbed the
classes in Beta3 and removed those stubbed out functions. So instad of
:

pieSeries.fills = ...

you write

pieSeries.setStyle("fills",...);

in Beta 3, that code doesn'nt work anymore., and I receive an error The

  Yeah I

my Object looks like this;

my service call looks like this;

[flexcoders] RemoteObject call results into a bindable var not updating...

2006-06-15 Thread Doug Arthur

Hi, I'm trying to call a cfc and put the results into a bindable public var and use that on the page. But the problem is that when I call the method on the cfc, it doesn't put the value into the var immediately as expected... Here's the code, maybe that'll be more helpful:

mx:RemoteObject id=cfSrvc destination=ColdFusionsource=flexapps.new.viva.components.model.Record showBusyCursor=truemx:method name=init result=initRecord(event) /
/mx:RemoteObject

mx:Script![CDATA[import mx.rpc.events.ResultEvent;

[Bindable]public var recordID = 0;public function initRecord(event:ResultEvent):void {var record = event.result;recordID = record.recordID;trace('initRecord method: ' + recordID);
}
public function addRecord():void {cfSrvc.init();trace('addRecord method: ' + recordID);}

Logically I'd think what should happen here is that when addRecord() is invoked, the init() method on the cfc should be invoked, then the value from the cfc is inserted into the recordID var and then the process continues... But instead, the init() method is getting invoked, the addRecord() method is completing before the values from the initRecord bind to the var.

Here's the trace results
addRecord method: 0 // This should not be before initRecord since this trace logically comes afterwards because cfSrvc.init() invokes initRecord()...
initRecord method: n

What am I missing here???

Thanks!
- Doug

It may be hard to see on that graph, but I do know that the Flash Player
8 adoption rate exceeded that of v7 and prior... new records were
definitely set on this round, both before and after the auto-update
kicked in.

(When I look closely at that chart it seems to be showing beta adoption
as well... Flash Player 8 was released to the general public in the last
few days of August 2005... I think that chart is a rough estimate, given
that we've only seen two NPD audit periods so far, and that December
2006 has not quite arrived yet. ;-)

 Does anyone have a way to project the Flash player 9 adoption rate
 with the new in context upgrade?
 Also, I've called adobe last week and after some probing, got an
 updated couple week Flex 2.0 time estimate! can I trust
this?

It's hard for me to predict the future. I see no reason to expect that
the trends would reverse. The increasing acceptance of web video over
the psat three months seems like it would offer even more update spurs.
But then again, in March NPD found that above 70% of consumers tested
already had the 8.0 Player, which will suffice for most video sites for
awhile.

If you're trying to make a case to a client, I might suggest saying it
will be darn fast... that historical graph bears this out. Beyond that,
looking carefully at the client's particular audience may help... if
users do not have installation privileges on the machines they use, for
instance, then the general consumer adoption rate may not matter so much
as the IT staffing for a particular audience.

(That Flex 2.0 Really Soon Now estimate matches the guidance I've
seen
on this list, as well as elsewhere... I don't know the date, but we're
close.)

2006-06-15 Thread Tarun Telang
Hi,

I have installed the Flash 9.0 Plugin on my browser
(IE version 6.0.2800). The installation completes within few seconds.

I still am unable to see the Flex UIs (Flex 2 Beta 3).
Does it requires any special browser settings..

Regards,
Tarun

[flexcoders] DataGridColumn Item Renderer

2006-06-15 Thread Subba Chalamalasetty

I have a data grid and there are 10 columns and 5 rows in
that. I am trying to use itemRenderer = myRenderer

 mx:Label textAlign=right
text={data.name} alpha=0.1 color=#ff0033
width=100% /

/mx:VBox

I want to have different colors for each name. In the above
code, as i am giving {data.name}, I am getting all the names with same color.

I want to access each element(cell) in that column(column
name=name) and give each name with different color. Can somebody help me with
this?

Thanks

[flexcoders] DataGrid scrolling

2006-06-15 Thread robbieshere
Hi all. I have been informed of a strange problem that occurs when you
scroll down the rows of a datagrid using the down button on the
keyboard: basically, my datagrid will not scroll to keep the selected
row in view. Instead, the selected rows will approach the bottom of
the grid, and keep scrolling while you keep pressing the down
button, except it is not visible unless you manually scroll down with
the mouse.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of the property that might control this
(I wasnt able to locate the right one), or if they know of a way to
keep the selected row always in view? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
-Rob

Re: [flexcoders] How to recover from 'cleaning' project?

2006-06-15 Thread Michael Schmalle

Hi,

This is what I do,

Rename your project, oldProj or something.

Create a new project with the same name as your old one. If I were you
with this still in beta, rebuild your project if not to complicated. In
the new project, you then have new swf's and .html files.

You also could copy the files back into the old and rename it back.

But, when something like that happens to me, I am more than willing to
just start from scratch with a new project with the same name.

It only takes me about 1-2 minutes to rename, move and delete stuff and it's back up and running.

If anybody knows a better way, I am all ears.

Oh yeah,

You could also just copy in the swf's and html from another project rename them and recompile.

I have found this method is not so 'stable' but most of the time works.

It may be hard to see on that graph, but I do know that the Flash Player

definitely set on this round, both before and after the auto-update
kicked in.

(When I look closely at that chart it seems to be showing beta adoption

Hello Tracy,

When writing my custom trace target based on LC I found that
subclassing LC worked best for me,
however except of using 2 methods described in docs (subclass,
dynamic class) you can simply put any object to client property at
runtime, even created ad-hoc:

?xml version=1.0 encoding=utf-8?
mx:Application xmlns:mx=http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml; width=100%
 height=100%
creationComplete=initApp()
mx:Script

private function initApp():void{
lc = new LocalConnection();
var lcName:String = __test__;
var success:Boolean = false;
try{
lc.connect(lcName);
lc.client = getClient();
success = true;
}catch(e:Error){
out.text += already connected+\n;

if(success){
out.text += successfully connected+\n

var sendingLC:LocalConnection = new
LocalConnection();
sendingLC.addEventListener(StatusEvent.
STATUS, function(e:StatusEvent):void{
out.text += sending event: +e.

sendingLC.send(lcName, doMessage,

sendingLC.send(lcName, doClose);

Re: [flexcoders] Session Management

2006-06-15 Thread Abdul Qabiz

Hi Sreedhar,When you say maintain session, I take it as maintain session across the pages, right?In RIA world, there is no concept of pages and everything is a view. I can tell you one of the ways,I have tried.
1) With Flash Remoting or OpenAMF gateway:-Added a servlet filter on server, this servlet accepts and client requests, make sure of session and all andforward requests to AMFGateway servlet2) With HTTP POST/GET approach, I would pass the session-id to client and keep it on client side. With every request and I would pass the session-id to server. On server, you can check if session is still valid, if not return a error code which client procesess and shows relevant feedback to user.
I am not server-side guy, so I am sure there would better approaches. But that is how, I did things...KISS way..-abdulOn 6/15/06, sreedhar reddy

It may be hard to see on that graph, but I do know that the Flash Player

definitely set on this round, both before and after the auto-update
kicked in.

(When I look closely at that chart it seems to be showing beta adoption

 Also, I've called adobe last week and after some probing, got an

I see this as either of two questions:-1) Is SharedObject enabled on client?2) Is the data exists (which I set last time or is it first time) in SharedObject?To check (1),
I would do this:try{lso.data.dummy
 = dummy_text;lso.flush ();}catch (error:IOError){ trace (SharedObject not enabled for this domain or unknown error);}
To check (2):if (!lso.data.customObject)
{
 trace (customObject is not created. Seems first time);
 lso.data.customObject = {};
 //Note customObject is not a property of SharedObject. It is just an example here.
}
else
{ trace (Seems customObject exists, let's use it);
}
Hope it helps,-abdul

Hi, I'm trying to call a cfc and put the results into a bindable public var and use that on the page. But the problem is that when I call the method on the cfc, it doesn't put the value into the var immediately as expected... Here's the code, maybe that'll be more helpful:

Logically I'd think what should happen here is that when addRecord() is invoked, the init() method on the cfc should be invoked, then the value from the cfc is inserted into the recordID var and then the process continues... But instead, the init() method is getting invoked, the addRecord() method is completing before the values from the initRecord bind to the var.

Here's the trace results
addRecord method: 0 // This should not be before initRecord since this trace logically comes afterwards because cfSrvc.init() invokes initRecord()...

Sometimes, you might need to restart the machine. Installation sometimes doesn't complete because Yahoo! Messenger and several other softwares use ActiveX. Try restarting the machine. If it doesn't work then, then trying installing again but quit Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger etc, if you are running.

Re: [flexcoders] How to recover from 'cleaning' project?

2006-06-15 Thread Phil Marston

Thanks Mike, but "Falls at the 1st hurdle!"

I renamed my old project lots of things (including oldProj) and the new
project wizard says " F:\Project_Data\flex\Restaurant overlaps the
location of another project: oldProj" - amazingly it worked when I
named the new project any old thing and then renamed it and it's main
mxml file to the name I wanted.

Only trouble now is while it'll run now, which ever way I copy things
across from one project to the other I get an empty movie when I try to
run it. Will keep trying.

[flexcoders] suggestion: add label field for pieseries

2006-06-15 Thread Jason
It would be great if PieSeries had an attribute like labelField that
would provide the label to print on the wedges. Like the following:

PieSeries field=@costs labelPosition=insideWithCallout
labelField=month

Creating labelFunctions is a pain. Something similar was suggested
for DataGridColumns a while back. I know this could be done by making
a subclass/itemRenderer, but I'd really suggest it needs to be a basic
feature of the PieSeries.

Can someone else confirm this happens with them, too? I get it both on
my machine and another one. But it would be good to get some
verification from someone else.

RE: [flexcoders] colorPicker, getting the colour out

Is this what you're looking for?

Subject: [flexcoders] colorPicker, getting the colour out
Date: Tue, 13 Jun 2006 12:39:45 +0200

When I use custom objects or an array to fill the colorpicker everything
works like a charm. But when I try to use the colorpicker as it is I can't
seem to get the selected color out as an hexidecimal value. I've tried
'selectedColor', 'selectedItem', and have trying to get 'selectedIndex' to
admit colour, but no luck there either.

The documentation gives enough help for the advanced topics (putting in
your
own colours) but forgets the basics. How can I find out which colour is
selected? (in hexidecimals)

Thanks in advance,
Sonja

RE: [flexcoders] DTD Schema for Flex 2

2006-06-15 Thread Daniel Tuppeny

I'm confused too.

If it's XML (which I assume it is, because it has xml tags
and namespaces!), then why can't they write a DTD? If there's anything in their
that wouldn't fit into a DTD, then surely it's not valid XML
either?

Re: [flexcoders] How to recover from 'cleaning' project?

2006-06-15 Thread Sonja Duijvesteijn

Did you try project clean... to stop the caching problem? Most of the time this works really well. I know that's not a solution but it might prevent this in the future.Otherwise, what helps me most of the time is 'delete project' but not contents, then just start the project again. Then any caching is gone.
When you already have made a mess of things (and who hasn't at times) Mikes solution should do it.Sonja2006/6/15, Michael Schmalle
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:

Oh yeah,

You could also just copy in the swf's and html from another project rename them and recompile.

I have found this method is not so 'stable' but most of the time works.

the new project, you then have new swf's and .html files.

You also could copy the files back into the old and rename it back.

But, when something like that happens to me, I am more than willing to
just start from scratch with a new project with the same name.

It only takes me about 1-2 minutes to rename, move and delete stuff and it's back up and running.

Also, there's a Project - Clean option which clears out

[flexcoders] Resizing Container’s children in FLEX

2006-06-15 Thread iuliub
Hi list,

What do I have to do on a container's child in FLEX, to make it NOT
listen to its parent RESIZE EVENT.
I don't want it to keep its specified width and height (even if
they're percents), while resizing the parent.

I'm talking about the same blunt behavior of a MovieClip's child in
Flash.
Whenever I resize the parent MovieClip, the inside child also resizes
with the same amount, keeping the proportions.

I really need to implement this behavior to a dozen of buttons in my
FLEX project, so I'd be really thankful to anyone who can provide the
slightest idea.

Thanks in advance,
Iuliu B.

[flexcoders] Re: Dynamic lineSeries

2006-06-15 Thread ruddyvanduynslager
Hello Tom,

Many thanks for your attention.

For the showdataEffect, the error displayed is:

Access of possibly undefined property showDataEffect through a
reference with static type mx.charts.series:LineSeries.

for the stroke problem, here is the copy of the variables found in
the debug session:

Stroke = mx.graphics.Stroke (@3c3d401)
alpha = 1 [0x1]
caps = null
color = 16711680 [0xff]
joints = null
miterLimit = 0 [0x0]
pixelHinting = false
scaleMode = normal
weight = 30 [0x1e]
stroke = mx.graphics.Stroke (@3a077c1)
alpha = 1 [0x1]
caps = null
color = 14976769 [0xe48701]
joints = null
miterLimit = 0 [0x0]
pixelHinting = false
scaleMode = normal
weight = 3 [0x3]
First we can see that there are two 'stroke' one naming 'Stroke' and
the other 'stroke'.

With my code I have touched the 'Stroke' ( because color 0xff ),
and my line on my graph seems have the color '0xe48701'

So two questions, what represent the 'Stroke', and how dynamically
setup the color of my line ( called stroke )

Ruddy

Re: [flexcoders] How to recover from 'cleaning' project?

2006-06-15 Thread Michael Schmalle

After clean, performing a build should get .swfs back.

Not if there is an error in your app. It's like the chicken and egg thing.

I have run into that more than once. You have somme error, you think
it's due to a caching problem, perform clean, swf's do not come back
after trying to build it becasue it says, cannot find swf.

Hi Mike,

So are you saying if there's a scripting error in your code it'll stop
the project builder doing updates to any of the scripts you have
modified and when you then try to clean the project it doesn't clean it
properly because of the original error and you and your project get
dumped in the sh* by FlexBuilder!?

If you are that sounds like a fair description of what's happen to me

clean a project?!

It only takes me about 1-2 minutes to rename, move and delete stuff and
it's back up and running.

If anybody knows a better way, I am all ears.

[flexcoders] Re: DTD Schema for Flex 2

2006-06-15 Thread Geoffrey Williams
It is valid XML. There are 'limits' to what you can do with the
schema when compared to how dynamic Flex can be.

Hi, there are no plans at the moment to provide an xsd for Flex 2.
It's something we can consider for a future release or maybe the
community will write one that they find useful. We've found that
the MXML language ended up not really lending itself to a schema
because schema can't handle many of the things that are valid in
MXML (like providing a property as either a child tag or an
attribute). - Matt Chotin

[flexcoders] Re: Resizing Container’s children in FLEX

2006-06-15 Thread Tim Hoff
Instead of percentage based dimensions; height=100% width=100%,
set explicit dimensions height=80 width=160. You can change the
height and width to measuredHeight and measuredWidth on
creationComplete of the parent, if you want to start with percentage-
based dimensions.

Re: [flexcoders] Flex2B2 - cut off any gui controls that appear outside of parent container

2006-06-15 Thread Michael Schmalle

Hi,

For you to understand the problem you need to understand how the HBox lays it's children out and uses viewMetrics.

The reason this is not working is because since you specified 75%
width, the container will calc the .75 of the width minus anything that
is static IE your button 2.

When you say paddingRight = -15, this kind defines the logic of the layout.

For some reason, when you specify -15 for paddingLeft, the content on both sides then get clipped.

I am not Adobe, but I would venture to guess this cannot be done right
now. Not saying this is a bug but, I don't think the layout
algorithm takes negetives into account.

You could always subclass HBox and create a mask over it and use borderMetrics to size the mask.

  I don't think the layout
algorithm takes negetives into account.

I didn't mean it doesn't use the negetive padding, just it doesn't
calculate the 'measured width' right when laying out the mask for the
container using a negetive padding with a percentage.

Ah, to hard to explain right.

[flexcoders] Re: Event when Data is Loaded ?

2006-06-15 Thread Tim Hoff
I'm sorry Jean-Luc, I'm using Cairngorm terminology. I'm not sure
how you're application is set-up. But, if you are using a result
handler (onResult) for your RPC call, you change the state of the
view (grid) there. The onResult function won't execute until all of
the data is returned to your program. From there the population of
the grid and it's itemRenderers is almost instantaneous. If you
want to show me a little of your code (RPC and grid mxml), I can
show you what I mean.

   I'm handling a similar situation in the onResult function of the
   command that gets the data. In the function, I'm casting the
   lastResult from the RPC call to the VO in the ModelLocator and
then
   changing the view's state to display the data grid. This way the
   grid isn't displayed until all of the data has been returned and

How about if you initialize the DataGrid's visible property to

Hi there,

I'm trying to show a component on stage only when its

Let's take for exemple a datagrid with an itemRenderer. How
   would i set my datagrid property to visible only when all data

None of the events avalaible are made for that. Render Event

Any ideas ?

Then write a itemRenderer

mx:Script

     ![CDATA[

 /mx:Script

 mx:CheckBox id=cbSelectAll
label=Follow-Up All click=selectAll();/

mx:DataGrid id=dg

mx:columns

mx:Array

 mx:DataGridColumn
width=120 headerText=Follow-Up

mx:itemRenderer

mx:Component

mx:VBox xmlns:mx=http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml

mx:Script

![CDATA[

import mx.core.Application;

]]

/mx:Script

mx:CheckBox id=cbFollowUp
selected={Application.application.cbSelected}/

/mx:VBox
/mx:Component
/mx:itemRenderer
/mx:DataGridColumn

/mx:DataGrid

/mx:Application

I experienced what seems to be the same problem: I was not able to
see my flexapp in neither MSIE nor SAFlashPlayer.exe and, however, I
was able to see it using FireFox.
Try the following (it worked for my case)

1. Verify that the problem is related to the ActiveX version of
flashplayer: try SAFlashPlayer and then FireFox (chaveat, If you
installed FlexBuilder before FireFox, it is possible that FireFox
doesn't work also)
2. If you can see SWF with FireFox, then go
to system32/macromed/Flash and try to regsvr32 the file
named FlDbg9a.ocx. You probably will see an error message, if so,
you may have not enough privileges on some of your registry keys.
3. Use regmon.exe to monitor what is hapening in your registry while
you run again the flash installer Install Flash Player 9 AX.exe
4. Analyze the regmon's log fooking for ACCESS DENIED and write
those keys.
5. Using regedt32.exe, grant privileges enough to those registry keys
to the user you are logged in.
6. Run again the flash installer (monitoring its actions with regmon)
7. Try MSIE to see if it works now.
8. If MSIE is not working yet, go to step 4.

It repeated the process up to 4 times before it works.

Good luck

[flexcoders] Re: DTD Schema for Flex 2

2006-06-15 Thread Jason
First, I doubt they'd go with DTD, as it's not very descriptive. More
likely they'd use the XML Schema standard (XSD).

Second, it isn't like there's one single schema. Realize that every
time you add your own components, you're extending the schema. There
would be an existing schema if you took all the standard components,
but as soon as you subclass one, the schema needs updating. So I
imagine if it does validate against a schema, it builds it on-the-fly
by parsing all the class files.

Here's something else interesting. Apparently in Flex 1.0, they did
include a schema. Again, I would imagine it would only cover the
out-of-box components:

http://www.adobe.com/support/documentation/en/flex/1/releasenotes.html

And here's an article about someone trying to make it work in Eclipse:

"should" - it's certainly what I would expect - but I get nothing no

Rename your project, oldProj or something.

Create a new project with the same name as your old one. If I were you
with this still in beta, rebuild your project if not to complicated. In
the new project, you then have new swf's and .html files.

You also could copy the files back into the old and rename it back.

But, when something like that happens to me, I am more than willing to
just start from scratch with a new project with the same name.

It only takes me about 1-2 minutes to rename, move and delete stuff and
it's back up and running.

If anybody knows a better way, I am all ears.

figured if I clear out all the compiled stuff and get FB to build from

projects bin directory is empty!

What do I have to do?

[flexcoders] mx.resources.Locale not compiling

2006-06-15 Thread Suzy Lawson
Directly from the Flex docs it says that you can get the current
Localeby calling:

Locale.getCurrent().language

However, this line doesn't compile. (I have it in a function called by
the creationComplete method of my main mxml.

Also, I have an international application where I want to swap in the
correct ResourceBundle upon the language a user selects upon login.

The Flex 2.0 Beta 3 'Flex Developer's Guide' says that you need to
compile a seperate SWF file for each locale (language). Is that really
true???

That would make my life a nightmare anytime I need to make a change to
the application.

I also saw in a previous posting in this forum from Matt Chotin that
the method Locale.getCurrent().language returns the COMPILE-TIME
locale...that can't be true right? I guess I could use the
ExternalInterface API to get the real locale right??

Thanks in advance for your help/suggestions.

[flexcoders] Re: FlashPlayer 9 B3 Installer DO NOT WORK on MacIntel

2006-06-15 Thread owen.batt
Hi..

To the best of my knowledge it was never meant to? For the Beta,
including the private beta, OS X support was always for PPC. My
understanding is that there is an internal Alpha MacTel player inside
Adobe, but it will not be released until after Flex is released
publically, along with FP9 as a general release.

Any Adobe guys, please correct me if i'm wrong or out of line :)

We have got around this issue (we develop on Mac's) by installing
Parallels (http://www.parallels.com/) and running a windows VM that
connects to our Mac web servers. We build all our swfs on the mac
using the command line compiler and browse to them locally in IE on
the Windws VM. Its actually a good set up because the PPC Mac Player
is slw in comparision to the new Windows player.

My 2 cents.

Cheers

Owen

[flexcoders] F2B3: Editable DataGrid focus problem

2006-06-15 Thread Jason Y. Kwong

With an editable DataGrid, select a row to give the grid focus. On the desktop, bring some other application to the foreground. Then go back and click on the Flex app that's running in the browser (click on the app, not on the browser window title bar). The grid will then put a cell into edit mode.
The grid is acting like as if it was just given focus via tabbing. The grid does try to avoid this behaviour when focus is given via a mouse click (in focusInHandler()), but it doesn't appear it catches this mouse click since it comes from outside.
