Re: [flexcoders] Overlapping click regions

2006-03-05 Thread Sreenivas R

The canvas gets the click event because of the event bubbling.

You can handle the situation in two ways.

In canvasClicked you can check the event.target to be the canvas only before taking any action.

You can call event.stopPropagation() in the button click handler to prevent the event from bubbling up to the canvas.

On 3/6/06, svolix <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:
One of my custom components extends the Canvas and has a button on it.Both the canvas and button are rigged to activate seperate functions
when clicked.  I've called them canvasClicked() and buttonClicked().Now, clicking on the canvas where the button isn't triggers thecanvasClicked() function, as planned.  However, clicking on thebutton, which is within the Canvas region, appears to trigger both
canvasClicked() and buttonClicked().The hack-y way I thought of to make sure that only buttonClicked()actually does anything is to introduce a semaphore-like mechanism toboth functions (that is, buttonClicked() sets a flag to true; do
canvasClicked() only if flag is false).  But there must be a betterway to handle this.  Anyone know what it is?  Thanks.--Flexcoders Mailing ListFAQ:

Re: [flexcoders] Modifying Scroll Bars

2005-12-13 Thread Sreenivas R

Hi Jeff,

From what I know there are two ways to do this.

You can set the several styles available for the ScrollBar. Take a look at the default.css file which lists many of the styles. Using a Style tag for ScrollBar you can change the look at feel of all the scroll bars in your application or you can set it on individual controls.

Or you can set the vScrollBarStyleName or hScrollBarStyleName of any control to change only horizontal or vertical scroll bar styles.

Hi Jeremy,

I understood what you are trying to do. Here is a conversation snippet discussing the same issue.

It turns out that if you want add components to the stage, you have to set up our infrastructure first. On the other hand, if you just want to add Sprites and other non-framework DisplayObjects, it is pretty simple.
Basically, you need to start with a SystemManager, specify an Application, then set up styles used by the components before adding components.This is the "basic" button example.-Original Message-
Subject: Example of Adding a component via ActionScript?Anyone have an example of adding a Component (say a button) to the stage via ActionScript?I am specifically looking for an example in an ActionScript only

Re: [flexcoders] Strange Issue with Flex 2 Alpha States, MenuBar and Button Control

2005-11-29 Thread Sreenivas R

I think this is a bug in Alpha where the focus is retained in a object even after it has been removed (button in your case) and causing this error.

As label doesnot have focus it is not giving any problems. Try forcing the focus to something else in the event handler.

-Sreenivas
On 11/30/05, Ralf Rottmann <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

Dear Flexcoders,

I encountered a strange issue today and would like to ask you for any hints. However it is somewhat difficult to describe the scenario. I give it a try:

1. In my application I have a MenuBar with a couple of MenuItems and an EventHandler for the Menu.
2. The MenuBar EventHandler does nothing more than changing the currentState of the application.
3. Once a specific MenuItem (e.g. Login) is selected, currentState is set to a new value (e.g. "loginDataVisible").
4. The state contains the following elements:

 name="loginDataVisible
">

 target="{
this}
" position="firstChild
">

text="
Back" click="onLogin(event)"
/>

With the onLogin Handler defined as follows:

private
 function
 onLogin(e):
Void
{

this.currentState=
"loggedOut";

  }

"loggedOut" is the initial (default) state.

So the overall idea is: User starts with the main application window (loggedOut state), select "Login" from the menu, the "loginDataVisible" state is displayed, the user clicks on Back and the main application window is restores.

This works fine.

HOWEVER:

If I change the Label Control in the "loginDataVisible" state to a Button control:

 name="loginDataVisible
">

 target="{
this}
" position="firstChild
">

label="
Back" click="onLogin(event)"
/>

I encounter a wired problem. When Login is selected in the menu first, everything works fine. The new state is rendered, pressing the Back button restores the original state. But if I then select the Login option from the menu again, Flash responds with the following error:

TypeError: Error #1009: null has no properties.

    at mx.controls::Menu/hide()
    at mx.controls::Menu/Menu$438$private::hideAllMenus()
    at mx.controls::Menu/mouseUpHandler()

If I switch back to using a Label instead of a Button everything works fine again.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Best regards
Ralf

Hi Jeremy,

I think without all Flex initialization code (SystemManager, Application, Styles etc) this is not going to work !

I am saying this based on my look at the generated AS file for a simple Flex MXML app. It generates lot of code !

It is easy to insert components into a minimal Flex App through AS but it will be very difficult to use a Flex component in a stand alone AS app.
