[flexcoders] Flex 1.5/Flash Remoting Gateway Problem
Hi, It's been a while since I posted on the group, I've been lucky enough to not have many big problems while developing with Flex in the past 6 months! But last week whilst testing a significant section of my flex application, it was discovered that the flash client was having problems receiving a result from the flash remoting gateway on certain occasions. This is a BIG problem, especially as I am coming to the end of the contract with my employer, and I'm trying to get the project wrapped up for next week! I am developing in Flex 1.5 (using remote objects to consume the Coldfusion CFCs), with Coldfusion MX 7.0.2 running in the back end, and MS SQL 2005 (although i dont think the databse is anything to do with the problem), on a Windows Server 2003 SP2 server. I have ruled out a number of issues that I believe could be the problem, including: Network connections (the flash client can communicate with the server no problem, initially!) Coldfusion (the CFC method is being invoked successfully, and returning the result to - I dump the result to a html log file) Flash Remoting Gateway (The log files confirm that the gateway completes sending the result back to the ) Flash Client (I have tried replicating the steps followed on a number of different client machines, all fail at the same point) When the Flex application initially loads, it invokes 23 methods in the Coldfusion CFC, which returns all the results with no problem. The user then adds some data to the form on the flash client (the Flex application). The form contains a combo box that the user selects a category from. When the category changes, a CFC method is invoked (one of the 23 that was invoked only moments earlier), which returns a Boolean value, to check if the category has any sub categories. From time to time (and more often than not) when this method is invoked, the flash client just sits idle with the timer icon spinning around (it is waiting for a response from the flash remoting gateway). I have checked the flash remoting gateway log files, and the result is being returned by the gateway. It seems that the flash client is not receiving the response. There are many other sections in the application where flex/flash clients consume Coldfusion CFC's, again they can be temperamental and hang, waiting for a response indefinitely! I believe my Flex application is ok, as it successfully invokes the CFC method without any problems; it just seems to hang on certain occasions. Maybe the flash remoting gateway is not correctly configured? I also thought it might be a http connection issue with the server, but as far as i know, the CFCs are invoked, the result is sent back, and the http connection is closed. I also thought it might have been a session-based issue with the Coldfusion CFCs, but i think i have ruled that out. If anyone could help me I would be in serious debt to them! As I said I am coming to the end of this project and I don't need this problem right now. I have tired ruling out every possibility, but to no end can I find the source of the problem. [flexcoders] Running Dreamweaver Flex builder at the same time
Hi all, i was wondering if anybody knows how to run both flex builder and dreamweaver at the same time on one machine. If i have flex builder open and i open the dreamweaver shortcut, it just seems to point to the instance of flex builder already running. Any help would be great, im sure there is a way round this, i just havent figured it out. Yeah im talking about 1.5, so theres no way at all to get both of them running, i tried running it under a different username in win XP, but no joy! [flexcoders] Flex Builder 1.5 Design view problems/constant crashing
Hi all, i am trying desperately to develop a Flex app in 1.5 but when i get to a certain point of adding controls, the whole things just seems to crash over and over again! the mxml file is only 35kb, and there ar only 800 lines of code. Is this more than flex builder can handle??? I have tried to creat seperate components for my application, and then use the local tag to embed them in the main mxml file, but i get problems trying to access controls and using data models etc. Perhaps there is a bug with flex builder 1.5, i am at my wits end here because i cant develop any more as the damn program just keeps freezing up when i try to view the flex app in Design view! I was going to use Flex 2.0, but i was having the same problems with components and being able to access data models etc. so i decided to continue with Flex 1.5 instead! Any help, or advice would be great! [flexcoders] Flex 1.5 to 2.0 migration problem
I have performed a 1.5 to 2.0 migration and i have almost got things
working after alot of headaches (im really wondering if its worth my
while to migrate!).
I have got rid of all my errors, but when i run the application i get
the following error:
ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property application not found on
complantAdd and there is no default value
at _complantAddWatcherSetupUtil/setup()
at complantAdd/complantAdd::_complantAdd_bindingsSetup()
at complantAdd/initialize()
I have a main mxml application file in which i use an instance of a
local mxml component:
local:complantAdd xmlns:local=* id=plantAdd /
In this component, i have a combobox which i bind the contents of a
data model to (the model 'modGen' is defined in the main mxml
application):
mx:ComboBox id=cmbGenus labelField=genericName
dataProvider={mx.core.Application.application.modGen}/
I guess the error is because of the binding above, but im totally lost
and it starting to make me think that i should just stick with Flex
1.5! Maybe this is not enough information for someone to comment on,
if more is needed (like a code listing) then please let me know.
Please help anybody, quickly would be good... cos i cant spend much
more time on getting nothing done, im getting paid by the hour and not
able to produce anything!

[flexcoders] Flex builder 1.5 or 2.0
Hello everyone, im new to the group and only just started using the whole Flex environment and language in the past fewe weeks. I can see the advantages of using Flex for the GUI's that my system will use and using Coldfusion cfc's to manipulate my database and data as a whole. I am using Coldfusion to develop my main system and i intend to use Flex to create some powerful GUI's. However i have been having some major problems getting to two to work together (cf/flex compiler merge, Coldfusion cfc's as remote objects). I have been using Flex Builder 1.5 for a few weeks now and im starting to build what will be a pretty sophisticated application. I have been having a few problems with getting Coldfusion cfc/Remote Objects working, thankfully i have got a quick fix so i can continue developing my application for the time being, but i need to get this problem sorted before i can deploy the system for production use. My main question is what are the advantages of using Flex Builder 2.0 over 1.5, and indeed the Flex 2.0 language over 1.5. I was about to install Flex Builder 2.0 on my laptop to develop the system, but i just got the remote objects/cfc's working so i thought that if it aint broke dont fix it! I am running the cf and flex as integrated JRun 4 servers on one machine on my network, and i am developing and viewing the cf and flex applications on my laptop. Any comments would be helpful. Hi, i have successfully got this working (almost!) at long last. I am running both my cf and flex as iintegrated JRun servers on my server machine (port 8700 and 8500 respectively) and i am developing and accessing the mxml files from my laptop. I can get the echo cfc to work ok, and i also placed another cfc in the same directory (plants.cfc) which seems to let me get flex and cf communicating. My problem is that when i try to use another cfc in another directory (not \flex\remoting\samples\) flex doesnt seem to be able to communicate at all, it just sits there with the busy symbol. Im not sure whats going on, but i am sure that i have added the appropriate code in the right places and all the configuration files (flex's flex-config.xml, cf's gateway-config.xml) seem to be in order! Its just not working at all and i cant continue developing until i can reliably have access to the cfc's! Also, the named remote objects are giving em a bit of trouble... should i be pointing to the server name or localhost. When i use localhost, flex doesnt seem to be able to talk to the cfc's, but when i use the servers name (advent) it seems to work fine. Basically i cant get my flex to talk to my cfc's when they are stored in my main cfc directory. I have restarted both the cf and flex servers on many occasions and i have also restarted the whole machine on a few occasions just to be sure everything is initialised properly. Hi, i can access the cfcs over http no bother. i have also stopped using named RO's, its the same difference, one works in one directory and another doesnt! I guess the question i have to as is, if i install Flex 2.0 and Flex builder 2.0, will my exiting apps work ok? I have been having a few problems with RO's and cColdfusion cfc's, maybe the 2.0 could solve them??? I can see the advantages of using Flex for the GUI's that my system will use and using Coldfusion cfc's to manipulate my database and data as a whole. I am using Coldfusion to develop my main system and i intend to use Flex to create some powerful GUI's. However i have been having some major problems getting to two to work together (cf/flex compiler merge, Coldfusion cfc's as remote objects). I have been using Flex Builder 1.5 for a few weeks now and im starting to build what will be a pretty sophisticated application. I have been having a few problems with getting Coldfusion cfc/Remote Objects working, thankfully i have got a quick fix so i can continue developing my application for the time being, but i need to get this problem sorted before i can deploy the system for production use. My main question is what are the advantages of using Flex Builder 2.0 over 1.5, and indeed the Flex 2.0 language over 1.5. I was about to install Flex Builder 2.0 on my laptop to develop the system, but i just got the remote objects/cfc's working so i thought that if it aint broke dont fix it! I am running the cf and flex as integrated JRun 4 servers on one machine on my network, and i am developing and viewing the cf and flex applications on my laptop. Any comments would be helpful.
